Apple logo flash at startup

New iPhone 12 Pro. At startup the Apple logo flashes super bright for a brief second then the screen goes dark for about 10 seconds before the Apple Logo re appears at normal brightness to finish the startup. I’ve had iPhones for years and never had the logo turn on and then off during startup. Is that Normal for the 12?

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 14

Hi there, I can relate to u. Since my wife also has the 1st batch of iphone 12 pro, and she doesn't have the flash logo problem even w/ ios 14.4.1 . My iphone 12 pro came with ios 14.3, and I bought it in February. It has the flash logo problem (even after upgraded to 14.4.1), yet it doesn't affect the way the phone works in ANY way. Or as some would address it, maybe not yet. But my wife's iphone 12 pro (first batch in December) does have a glitch with activating the Airdrop, sometimes she has to reset it (pls check members of your family w/ the first batch iphone 12 if they do have that issue as well). All we can do is to hope that the new SW update will solve the issue. 🤞

Same problem here and I received my new iPhone 12 Pro Max just days ago in mid March 2021 (which had been on a back order), therefore likely very recent from manufacture possibly having the latest hardware revisions.

Therefore highly possibly (hopefully) not hardware related, which was my main concern when I first experienced the issue. So in effect that gives some piece of mind that the iPhone is ok and hopefully iOS 14.5 will address this.

Would be interesting if this issue relates in any way to those whom restored from an iCloud backup save from a previous model iPhone with everything on it, as apposed to setting up iPhone clean from scratch as new - just a thought.

Hi herry — none of my three family members that have iPhone 12’s have any problem activating AirDrop. Have you spoken with apple about the AirDrop glitch that your wife is experiencing?

I’m not 100% convinced that the Apple logo flash on startup is only a SW issue mainly because it doesn’t affect ALL iPhones. Logically speaking, if it was solely a SW based issue I would expect any iPhone, regardless of model, that is using that SW to display the behavior but they don’t. It’s odd to be sure.

I actually had one phone that I set up as new and didn’t add any apps to and didn’t do any SW updates on, and it still developed the behavior after a week. That is when I became more concerned that the issue might possibly be HW based or be a combination of HW and SW. A newer phone may not necessarily have newer HW. It really just depends on how large the stockpile of parts is that Apple is working from and, in addition, how large the stockpiles are of the suppliers of each of the individual components. I think of it like this, if there is a particular tire for cars that is faulty and needs to be recalled whether or not you end up with that tire on your car depends on how many of those tires your local tire store keeps in stock as well as how many of the faulty tires the tire manufacturer themselves actually made.

Everything in this thread is anecdotal. We humans have a very complex language and great reading ability. That means that we can read what others have experienced and learn from it; it isn’t necessary that every human being experience what every other human being has experienced, because we can learn from other’s experience. But, of course, that means you have to actually take the time to read. There is a wealth of information in this thread if you are willing to take the time to read it.

That’s what I had thought and I wish that were true. However when I restored my very latest iPhone XS backup to my new iPhone 12 Pro Max, I was very disappointed to see that all my manually added CD albums (previously added to iTunes on computer) where not present from the restore. I think using the restore method from iTunes itself in the past, did re-add my manually added albums in the past. In all fairness, maybe iTunes ran a “Sync” straight after the restore, which re-synced my music properly. In any case, this is a different issue to the discussion here.

As I stated to you before, I have read the thread, each and every post, and will continue to read it daily. Just because I don’t feel the need to remark on each and every post, as some do, doesn’t mean I haven’t read each and every one of them.

You captured my point precisely, every post here is anecdotal! While you can read them and learn what SEEMED worked for others, it does not mean that their experience is the penultimate answer. In my opinion it is just not helpful for anyone to belittle others concerns, or condescendingly tell them to “read the thread” over and over simply because they either don’t own the particular product themselves, aren’t experiencing the issue, or don’t have concerns about it themselves. But, that’s just me ...

Since you haven’t offered me any enlightening answers to my repeated questions over the 50 pages of this thread, there’s no need to continue our conversation as I’ve heard your opinions loud and clear, repeatedly, but thank you for your input and have a nice day!

I’ve been following this thread for over a month. In the beginning there was very little information. I spent hours on the phone with Apple. I back up my phone and reset it to factory settings. I reinstalled everything.I went to the store as recommended. They minimized my concerns at the time as have some of the responses here.I was told so many different things along the way. Apple employees were not aware of the “glitch” from what I could tell in mid February. I’m still following it. We decided to stick with the phone for now. However, there seem to be a lot of fatigue from the Apple people responding. The thing we fail to recognize is that people are still buying phones and discovering the issue. Getting into this at a point where there over 50 pages could be overwhelming. For them it’s a brand new problem. Until a few posts in the last couple of days, I didn’t even see it recognized as an issue. We are finally beginning to see that and I think hadn’t been more open as to the cause of the problem this thread would’ve been a lot shorter. Many of us struggled to restart the phone. There were no instructions that said wait until you see the flash and then remove your finger and let it start up 10 to 15 seconds later. It took me two weeks to figure that out! No one knew. I found that solution in one of the posts. That’s why continue to follow. I would love for this to go away. As I’ve said before, forthrightness would have been helpful.
