Apple logo flash at startup

New iPhone 12 Pro. At startup the Apple logo flashes super bright for a brief second then the screen goes dark for about 10 seconds before the Apple Logo re appears at normal brightness to finish the startup. I’ve had iPhones for years and never had the logo turn on and then off during startup. Is that Normal for the 12?

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 14

After more than two weeks, I think that it is time to sum up the situation: the "flashing Apple logo" issue described by Blue-per does not occur when we unbox and boot the iPhone 12 (mini)/12 Pro (Max) for the first time, it occurs when the iPhone is already set up.

In most cases the phone performs normally after it boots up. Some users found hardware problems when using their new iPhone (phone needing to be connected to power in order to boot up, screen burn-in, battery charges very slowly, camera not taking HDR photos, etc.).

In my opinion those problems are not related with the flashing logo at startup, because they are very different from each other and they are isolated cases. They are just coincidences.

That does not mean that the flashing logo is not an issue: there are iPhone 12/12 Pro which boots with the (classic) steady Apple logo and some iPhone 12/12 Pro that do not, so it is obviously not a normal thing. It is not a "new feature" or "expected behavior".

After reading other answers on the forum, we can deduce that the issue does not occur on iPhone 12/12 Pro that were shipped with iOS 14.1 or with iOS 14.2 pre-installed, it (mainly) occurs on iPhone 12/12 Pro shipped in January with iOS 14.3 pre-installed. As a matter of fact a lot of people returned the device during the last weeks and got a new one with the same problem.

Now, we suppose (and hope) that the issue is part of iOS 14.3 and not in the hardware of the phone. In this case Apple should be able to fix it with an update, maybe already with a sub-dot-release (iOS 14.4.X) or later with iOS 14.5. There are some comments in favor of that supposition too, where people noticed that issue after updating from iOS 14.2 to iOS 14.3.

On the other hand, it is strange that (most) iPhones who updated the operating system from 14.2 to 14.3 did not experience the issue. And it is even stranger that I read a reply from a user who encountered the problem already on iOS 14.2. Those facts contradict our supposition above, and maybe the flashing logo has nothing to do with iOS 14.3.

I am sure a lot of people have this problem too; they do not notice it, because nowadays we do not shutdown and restart our phones very often. And even if they do that, they (probably) don't keep looking at the boot screen for issues.

It is very hard for us to guess if it is a software or a hardware problem. Only Apple can give us an official answer, and in order to solve the problem as soon as possible I ask you to continue upvoting this and other similar posts (clicking on "I have this question too"), commenting if you have some news from Apple and reporting the case to the Apple Support.

Thank you Greeneyeddi0. My husband and I have the same apple icon flash-on start-up issue. No other problems though as of yet. We both got our phones in early Jan and Feb. 12 pro. I will call Apple and report in so they know this is universal on some phones. Hopefully, the next update will do the trick. We are in the habit of turning our phones off at night. Cheers.

Questions to Apple from Saudi Arabia Apple Customers:

-Is there any official solution from Apple?

-Is the issue related to models which produced in Week 52 and newer produced models in 2021?

-if solution will be refund, apple will accept refund after 14 days of sale?

-if solution will be refund, Apple will support customer to refund faulty Iphones who bought from the biggest third party companies?

(Like: Xcite Alghanim, Jarir, extra, Carrefour, Lulu, Panda ) refund rules max 7 days in Xcite and other companies in Saudi Arabia and there is no official Apple seller)

-Will Apple ask back all faulty iphones regardless bought from third party seller or from Apple store?

Looking for solution and official Response from Apple to finalize the customer complains.

Thanks

Mert

Urban Giji— sort of the answer that’s a non-answer. It should be available to us in Apple should be saying some thing if that is the case. It depends on who you talk to. Why would they design it that way? Why not respond if that was the case and shut down this discussion. The Apple store person who told me it was okay because sh3 knows so,done whose phone does the flash! If that was the case, why do some phones do it and some don’t? I just want them to fix it.

That's good to know, i remember that Apple told me to try to set up phone as new, and to change ios versions and nothing did work, someone even tried to tell me it could be something to do with my setting like truetone, and brightness...yeah right especially when all the settings were copied across from my Xs. Although i did notice battery drain on the first 12 pro i had.

It was just a bit worrying to see that something doesn't work as i should. Also now when it's almost March, i think i may as well wait for the iphone 13 or 12s depends what they will name it, although i do really like the look of the 12! If i get a deal on 12 i may pick one up.

I have the same issue with iPhone 12 + could not restore backup from old iPhone X, I don't know if it's related, but I have the iPhone for a month+ and could not use it. Unfortunately, we don't have Apple stores in Saudi and Apple authorized repair is helpless as usual. I don't know what to do because when I took it to what is called apple authorized repair he returned it to me saying there was nothing wrong with the device. This message to Apple support if they ever read these comments; we (Apple users) demand and deserve a better service that what you called your authorized repair Arab computers, try to send a survey to all apple users in Saudi if they gave them more than 2/5 star call me a lier. I don't know when Apple is going to open stores in Saudi, I know you already have a license to open in Riyadh at least.

dear Alhajji,

100% agree with you as i am also one of the customer in Riyadh. Arab computer representative even didnt want to interest with my case yesterday until i asked the manager, then manager tried to help some how. I submit the new iphone 12 pro to arab computer to be fixed regardless issue related to SW or HW. If they can not fix the issue and turn back me the same iphone with issue, i will raise the case to minister of commerce.

in addition to this, apple support center is also totally useless, just speaking without any solid action, without valid justification.

this is good lesson learnt for me and for my all friends who want to buy apple product in Saudi Arabia...
