Apple CarPlay keeps disconnecting (2021)

Wireless CarPlay on my 2021 Hyundai i30 keeps disconnecting at random intervals. In addition to that, it also disconnects at one specific location during my morning commute to work without fail every morning. To me they seem like two different issues, even though they share the same outcome.

The audio unit issuer for Hyundai, Seednav, has already released an update regarding this concern and I have installed it in my car. Unfortunately the issue still remains the same. Recent communications with Seednav have resulted in the blame being pointed towards apple. Is there a fix in the making for this issue?

Seems like we have some good news on the way.

Hyundai have worked with apple and identified two different issues causing the disconnections.

Random dropouts for no apparent reason are linked to an iOS issue and most likely will be rectified with the next big release.

Dropouts near power lines and other interference sources are linked to WiFi in head units and will be rectified with a software update.

Hope to see these updates released by late August and late September.

2020 Kia Sportage, this started a few months ago for me.

I thought it was the phone case not allowing the plug to stay.

Switched cases and same thing.

I rely on Waze and Siriusxm for my commuting.

I find this now to be dangerous as I have to either plug and unplug over and over or...it does it alone sometimes but never stay on.

Enough finger pointing, GET THIS FIXED NOW.

I just did the latest ios update and didn't resolve this issue.

I agree, but I have read nearly all of these posts here and elsewhere and the cars include Peugeot, Honda and others.

My beef is my car was fine for two years and what changed ? Apple ios did.

I'm calling my dealership now and it was just in for a recall for something else. If they had a fix for this they should have done it then.

I'm not here to pick fights, I am looking for a solution.

Apple iOS changed but that doesn't mean the issue isn't with your automaker.

The example I often give is that a calculator should give the same answer if asked to add "2 + 3" or "3 + 2."

However, if there is a bug where "3 + 2" is calculated as "6," that doesn't mean the person trying to add "3 + 2" is at fault.

Dealerships do not address any issues they are not aware of and that you did not complain about, as they don't get reimbursed for just applying every available software update, assuming one even exists and that they know to apply it.

You have to complain to them about it, vociferously if need be.

Because the phone staff at any large company does not know about every bulletin issued on every problem, they just know what their database tells them and what they are updated upon in meetings.

Quite frankly, many people have gotten in arguments with their dealerships, who have insisted there are no updates available, until they show their dealer the image above, at which time their dealer looks it up and says "Wow, our system didn't show anything."

I had a 2020 Hyundai Sonata and never had a problem with Apple Car Play disconnecting. Then someone t-boned me, and it was less expensive to get a 2021 Sonata than a used 2020 model. I drive for GrubHub, and it's critical that Apple Car Play work so I can get directions without pushing buttons. But with the constant disconnects, I have to push the button to reconnect at least every 5-10 minutes, and sometimes I have to reinstall Apple Car Play altogether. This feels like (another) accident waiting to happen!

Well I was messaged by the local Hyundai dealer here in Melbourne yesterday that an IOS update (IOS15) from Apple will fix the issue and that it’s coming in September and then Hyundai are also going to be releasing a further fix for the wifi issues in the car’s head unit. They said this will be released in September around the same time as the Apple update. Way too long to have to wait to get this sorted for everyone I think although mine’s been way more stable following what I last posted to do.
