Apple CarPlay keeps disconnecting (2021)

Wireless CarPlay on my 2021 Hyundai i30 keeps disconnecting at random intervals. In addition to that, it also disconnects at one specific location during my morning commute to work without fail every morning. To me they seem like two different issues, even though they share the same outcome.

The audio unit issuer for Hyundai, Seednav, has already released an update regarding this concern and I have installed it in my car. Unfortunately the issue still remains the same. Recent communications with Seednav have resulted in the blame being pointed towards apple. Is there a fix in the making for this issue?

The latest update from Apple (14.5) has given me enough proof to say that this is mostly an Apple issue rather than the manufacturers. Ever since my phone was updated to 14.5, the dropouts have reduced significantly. I managed to do a 3 hour journey today with maps and spotify running for the entire jorney without any issues.

Although it hasn't completely cured the problem, it seems like we are one step closer to the solution.

I have KIA Picanto MY21 purchased Aug 2020 I have the issue of Apple Carplay dropping out from new. Have returned to the delivering Dealer 6 times, the Dealer has installed two separate software updates, still no fix. I also have a KIA Seltos (that connects with cable only) with Apple Carplay have not had any issues. Have tried different iPhone same result. The drop outs are so random, I can get in the car and it will connect perfectly work perfectly then just drop out and you will receive an error message. Without any intervention it will reconnect perfectly I have not been able to find any environmental issues that effect it. I have taken the matter up with consumer affairs and written to KIA Australia.

Completely different software stacks, it's like asking why Apple Numbers works but Microsoft Excel breaks; it must be Apple's fault because they're both spreadsheets.

Other manufacturers that properly Apple's CarPlay API haven't had issues.

I'm sure Apple has investigated, but they aren't going to break iOS to make it work with Hyundai/Kia, and once the bug is identified only the automaker can fix it on whatever time schedule they deem worthy.

If it was as easy as Apple pulling a new Hyundai into their lab and diagnosing the issue, don't you think they would have done that? I know for a fact that's the exact procedure their CarPlay team follows to diagnose problems.

If it helps anyone, i have taken my Pioneer head unit out, cleaned it all up and changed the USB cable. Not the iphone one as I’d done this already, but there is a male USB to female USB lead that connects to the back of the unit and allows easy access to plug in any device. I have removed this and just plugged an Iphone lead directly into the unit and routed it through my dashboard to my phone holder. This appears to have solved the issues I was having, I will update you all if it stops working in the short term. Hope this helps someone as it had been driving me mad for weeks

Hi Guys,

Hope all staying safe in this difficult times. I was going through this discussion and thought of giving some input. Apple car play works good with cars which don't have wireless carplay option (considering all othet parameters are good). With wireless carplay unit it wouldn't let you use carplay with wire option by default it uses wireless option. I have tried all kia and hyundai car in one particular spot it wouldn't work if I move the car and try again it works. But Android Auto works well in that same spot. Also some people has issue every time passing the toll. Some interference causing apple to drop wireless connection could be for security reason. This post is not to blame phone or car manufacturer, provided information so that either of them can look in to the issue with more information. If apple allows option of having cable or wireless, we can try cable only to see if it makes any difference. Lets wait and see what update is issued by who to fix the issue.
