Apple CarPlay keeps disconnecting (2021)

Wireless CarPlay on my 2021 Hyundai i30 keeps disconnecting at random intervals. In addition to that, it also disconnects at one specific location during my morning commute to work without fail every morning. To me they seem like two different issues, even though they share the same outcome.

The audio unit issuer for Hyundai, Seednav, has already released an update regarding this concern and I have installed it in my car. Unfortunately the issue still remains the same. Recent communications with Seednav have resulted in the blame being pointed towards apple. Is there a fix in the making for this issue?

Never said it was, but a bad cord can cause issues.

Check with Peugeot to see if they have a firmware update. Many with Peugeots have also reported having to reset their entertainment systems to factory defaults.

It looks like Peugeot head ends might be made by Magneti Marelli S.p.A, who also make head ends for some BMW models as well as Alfa Romeo.

Sounds like the cable isn't making proper contact with the phone.

Even brand new cables can be bad, so you may want to try using another.

You may also want to double check there is no lint or other debris in your Lightning connector; if there is you may be able to dislodge it with compressed air or by very, very careful use of a toothpick.

Update:

Genesis Corp Tech could not reproduce on his phone. Said it must be some app on the phone causing the issue. I went home plugged in wife's iPhone 7 ( I have a 12) that does not have same apps and it does not work. They also told me at dealership the head unit is an Android based unit and the program in the iPhone is an interface between the two. Also, they said I have a company installed program, MobileIron, that keeps my company email secure and it might have an affect when I receive emails. I have to be at work to remove it as I have to have help from phone IT group to reinstall.

Went back to dealer and they agreed to change head unit and USB port then remove and reapply program.

Will update later

I also had your thoughts: Charging and data exchange with all the tested cables works fine.

Also cleaning the port with a tooth brush didn’t help - moreover it’s a three week old iPhone 12 Pro.

All my other iPhones work fine connected with CarPlay.

„Does it occur if you don't move the phone at all?“

Usually this would be beyond the typical use case while being connected via CarPlay as there’s always some movement driving. But I can tell that without touching the phone and driving it also disconnects and reconnects randomly.

Fair point.

From hardware point of view there’s one thing I am going to test on Monday: using a USB C to USB A Adapter with the Original provided USB C to lightning cable.

I am not sure if slightly design changes in resistors could cause such behavior.

However I also filled a Feedback form to Apple. But still wondering that many people seem to be affected without a solution in sight.

I drive a the new KIA Sonnet and have been having the same issue, but have noticed it always happens when I drive through specific locations. i.e. a specific part of a road that I travel through everyday or passing a certain electrical transformer on the freeway.

I'm surmising it is a frequency issue rather than the actual software. something Apple needs to finetune with KIA / Hyundai

I have been using CarPlay since I bought my new 2021 Subaru Forester two weeks ago. I was just thinking yesterday how awesome it is and how grateful I am for this big upgrade since my 2012 Impreza had nothing like CarPlay. Then today, out of nowhere, it stopped working. I’d unplug and replug and sometimes it would work for a few minutes before dropping. This happened many times. I’ve been very disappointed to see that there are many, many similar complaints on various threads but no substantive solutions. I tried most of the quick fixes but need something that actually lasts. I’m feeling crestfallen after really starting to love CarPlay as one of the most appealing Features of my much loved new Subie. Apple, Please help!
