Apple CarPlay keeps disconnecting (2021)

Wireless CarPlay on my 2021 Hyundai i30 keeps disconnecting at random intervals. In addition to that, it also disconnects at one specific location during my morning commute to work without fail every morning. To me they seem like two different issues, even though they share the same outcome.

The audio unit issuer for Hyundai, Seednav, has already released an update regarding this concern and I have installed it in my car. Unfortunately the issue still remains the same. Recent communications with Seednav have resulted in the blame being pointed towards apple. Is there a fix in the making for this issue?

The latest update from Apple (14.5) has given me enough proof to say that this is mostly an Apple issue rather than the manufacturers. Ever since my phone was updated to 14.5, the dropouts have reduced significantly. I managed to do a 3 hour journey today with maps and spotify running for the entire jorney without any issues.

Although it hasn't completely cured the problem, it seems like we are one step closer to the solution.

PIONEER STEREO ( CarPlay keeps randomly disconnecting or buffering )

The following needs to be checked and in this order

Low-Data Mode --> toggle --> Phone / Mobile --> Mobile Data Options

Low Power Mode --> toggle --> Battery ( Battery too low might also trigger yellow Low Power Mode )

for the following -- When Connected to eg PIONEER STEREO WIFI HOTSPOT MODE

toggle --> WiFi --> CHECK --> All Auto Join --> WiFi settings --> can be better choice not to have this for example

inside DMH-ZF9350BT --> My Networks

toggle --> WiFi --> Ask to Join Networks --> Notify mode --> can be better choice

toggle --> WiFi --> Auto Join Hotspot --> Ask to Join

I got my Elantra 2021 yesterday and I am facing exactly the same issue. I called the dealership and they had no idea what’s going on. What’s strange is that when I did a test drive for other hyunda 2021 cars, the wireless carplay(phone projection) behaved the same way. I can certainly confirm this is an issue with apple because I tried connecting my friend’s android auto and that has been working fine. So I would like to request Apple to look into this matter. I am sure everyone with a brand new Hyundai car using an iPhone is facing this.

That tells me it is a Hyundai issue if all of their products are having the issue. (Perhaps a big reason why Hyundai/Kia are switching vendors of their in-car entertainment systems starting in 2022.)

NVIDIA and Hyundai Motor Group today announced that the automaker’s entire lineup of Hyundai, Kia and Genesis models will come standard with NVIDIA DRIVE™ in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems starting in 2022. From entry-level to premium vehicles, these fleets will feature a rich, software-defined AI user experience that is perpetually updateable.

Were it Apple it wouldn't work in any car from any manufacturer, and that is not the case.

Ive been having the same issues with carplay constantly dropping out, it keeps stopping my music and exiting the navigation which is highly dangerous when at a roundabout or motorway junction. This is on an aftermarket pioneer touchscreen head unit. Its been working fine for about 18months until the end of March/early April, this would indicate its an Apple issue

Ok, so I had my car system updated today and yes, I have the latest iOS installed but I’m still getting the same message that ‘my phone is not responding’ when using Google Maps. Spotify seems to keep going regardless but it’s the maps I want! Am going to try Waze and will report back for anyone following this in Australia or wherever Waze is downloadable as to whether there are still issues. This is so frustrating. I’ve had cars with cabled systems on loan and no issues. It just seems to be Bluetooth! Come on Apple/Hyundai. We need a solution which stops this message coming up every few seconds!!

Bought the 2018 Elantra in April 2021 and all worked fine. Just in the last two weeks I’m having constant dropouts with Apple Music via Car Play. Reconnected, reset, etc. I know it’s an Apple issue and specifically an Apple Music issue since I also have Spotify on my phone and that has been playing without interruption whenever I switch over to it.

@djwilly - I think this thread is talking about problems with Wireless CarPlay, I believe the 2018 Elantra uses a wired connnection (i may be wrong).

That said, if it's only Apple Music that is affected in your case (i.e the CarPlay display works ok) you should open the music app on your phone when the issue happens and see if there are any warnings.

For me, something like that happened once and I got a message saying that my Apple Music account is being used on 2 devices at the same time (my kids were using it at home and I was trying to use it at the car).

Might be worth checking for any messages in the app.
