Apple CarPlay keeps disconnecting (2021)

Wireless CarPlay on my 2021 Hyundai i30 keeps disconnecting at random intervals. In addition to that, it also disconnects at one specific location during my morning commute to work without fail every morning. To me they seem like two different issues, even though they share the same outcome.

The audio unit issuer for Hyundai, Seednav, has already released an update regarding this concern and I have installed it in my car. Unfortunately the issue still remains the same. Recent communications with Seednav have resulted in the blame being pointed towards apple. Is there a fix in the making for this issue?

From what I see there are probably thousands of people with an Apple CarPlay that does not work in their cars.I don’t see Apple coming out with anything in their IOS to fix the issue. It appears to be an interface problem. Apple and the car entertainment systems need to get together for a solution or the car manufacturers need to drop this as a selling feature for the cars. If this many guns failed to work properly they would have a recall but then again recalls cast the manufacture $$$$$$$

I would say ALL car manufactures outsource their head units. I have a friend who has a Toyota vehicle and he said his car has the same issue mine but more sporadic and I have read many on other car forums say they also have connection issues. From working at a chip making company I know car manufacture change electronic equipment supplier all of the time and it is not always because they are having issues.

Genesis has told me it is 3 of 10 of the G90s that don't work not all of them. I have owned 2 that failed . If 3 of 10 brake systems failed there would be a massive recall!!!!!

I have had my 2021 Hyundai i30 since May 2021; despite repeated promises by Hyundai of software upgrades they have still not been able to fix the problem of the wireless CarPlay dropping out constantly. The service manager now says there is simply no fix and is aggrieved that Hyundai continues to deliver to dealers what are clearly defective vehicles. The sales manager this week told me Hyundai HQ in Sydney assured dealers that IOS 15 would fix the problem. Guess what: it doesn't. I have tried three models of iPhone updated to IOS 15 and all continue to do the same thing.

Same for me and my 2021 Elantra. It disconnects at exactly the same spot for several spots on my commutes. Never had this problem when I had my 2012 and 2016 Elantra with wired CarPlay. those of us who bought new cars advertised with wireless Apple CarPlay are not able to use wireless carplay at its full functionality and don't have the option of just plugging it into the USB port any more to get it to work correctly. Stay tuned ...

Have had the same issue ever since getting me Hyundai Venue 2021. Have had numerous updates on it. Changed out the entire headunit and no luck what so ever. Hyundai keeps saying it’s apple’s fault. They always tell me to wait for a new update (told me this 5 times now). Every Apple update never mentions fixes to Apple car play (Apple not listening). It had gotten to the point where Hyundai is offering me a refund on the car!!!! Absolutely fuming.

Apple is listening, they’re just not going to fix things in CarPlay that aren’t broken, and are going to make sure that they test changes they deliver as thoroughly as possible.

it all depends upon the actual issue being seen. For example if you see that your head end resets or becomes unresponsive, there’s nothing in the CarPlay protocol that a device can send to your head end that should be able to make it do that.

Or they started using a feature that’s been in the wireless CarPlay protocol that those manufacturers did not implement properly on their side.

If that is the case, Apple is not going to modify their software to address it.

If they did break something, they will fix it eventually.

Have you tried upgrading to iOS 15 to see if the issue goes away?

iOS 15 was only released September 20, 2021, and it’s unlikely a new bug in CarPlay just introduced would carry forward from iOS 14 to iOS 15.

Further, Apple could not have broken anything “about four weeks ago,” because to change anything there needs to be a change in iOS, and iOS 14.7.8 was released July 26, 2021 and iOS 14.8 September 13, 2021.

It started happening on the 13th (I was unaware of the 14.8 release or I would have tried to undo that update)...anyway I was hoping 15 would fix it but in the release notes it mentions that planned CarPlay updates were omitted from the release). I am not saying it is Apple's fault per se (because it may be quite possible that the car makers didnt make a change they should have) but if at least Apple would acknowledge the issue and then we would know who's responsibility it is to fix it.

Bought a brand new 2021 i30 in March, and have had this issue plague me from day one. The dealer repeatedly told me it was my fault for not updating the phone, and when that became too hard a lie to peddle they began to blame Apple. Flash forward to a couple of weeks ago, and NCAT (The NSW Civil Administrative Tribunal) has ordered that they fully refund the car, as it is not repairable by the dealer. Communications between Apple and Hyundai have thus far gone nowhere.

If you take this path, don't forget to request they also pay any penalties from the financing arrangement. I forgot, and it has now extended this issue again.
