Audible stop playing when iPhone sleeps.

It just happened to me, but in my case, it was due to the earphones that I’m using. I tried unplugging, and Audible continued playing after locking the screen. Perhaps tried unplugging and unplugging speakers, if you use them.

Same here. I listen to audible every day and never had this issue until today after I installed iOS 15. If I go in to the audible app settings there is an option to disable auto lock but this will drain battery

Rebooting my phone fixed the issue for me!

Same just happened to me. I went into the audible app and hit the 3 dots at the top , went to settings and chose “disable auto-lock “

In Audible settings go to DISABLE AUTO LOCK ....make sure it's on. and the screen will stay lit and your player will not stop.

Why are you yelling at a wall? Is that going to fix your issue? Since others both in this thread and someone else I know have fixed it with an update of the Audible app that would seem to be their issue not Apple's. If Apple did this with the update then every Audible user would have the problem.

Connect it to a Bluetooth device or use an adapter to plug in some headphones or speaker directly then it will work.

First, it is not the Audible App. It worked perfectly when iphone went into sleep mode continuing to play the Audible book in car or just from phone speaker itself until I updated to most recent ios last night.

Second, my book continues to play with my beats X connected, but this is not always possible or as convenient when driving.

APPLE YOU DID IT WITH THE UPDATE! I hope not on purpose since I am and have been for over a decade “all Apple all the time!”

I have the XS MAX running iOS 14.6. Audible stops working when the screen locks intermittently. Most times it works for about 4-7 days and I can fix it with a reboot. After reboot it works just fine until the next time. I did not have Disable auto lock set in the app (checked after finding this thread). If this works, and as a daily Audible user, I am about to lose a ton of battery life.

Delete the app and re-installed, restart the phone. It’ll happen again at some point, but this is the fix until next time. Definitely a pain, but we’ll have to wait until the bugs get worked out.

The same issue just came up for me today. For the past several years, this has not been an issue. I'm not sure if an Apple update or an Audible update did something but as of yet, I haven't found a solution on my own.

This wasn’t an issue until the last two weeks. Clearly audible’s app allowed this function before, will Apple address what was changed in the last upgrade to prevent this from happening now? It’s not the app.

Two things to add

1. This isn’t pausing the audio, you just can’t hear it. Audible is still running and playing the audiobook, it’s just… not audible.
2. This issue doesn’t affect when wearing Bluetooth piXel buds. I’ve only had this issue when trying to use the speaker on my iPhone 12.

This Apple reply below that it is something Audible must fix is all a bit of Apple smoke - i.e. the not my problem routine. An ios update did cause this issue, and it may be that Audible will in fact have to now do an update. but for an Apple rep to just throw up their hands on this issue and duck out - is definitely not Apple-like. I'm guessing they came up with some code that is affecting far more apps than just Audible - so totally unclear here who needs to do what - but some kind of sign that both are working together to fix would be nice

Disabling auto-lock is a sub-optimal solution. Keeping your screen on will drain your battery quicker, since it keeps the backlight on. It would only advise it if other solutions (like toggling background refresh or disabling access to Apple Music) fail to solve this problem for a user.
