Since iOS 14.6 update iPhone's battery drains while my smart battery case remains fully charged

I just updated my iPhone 7 to iOS 14.6 and since then the iPhone's battery drains while my smart battery case remains fully charged (ps. I did try all the steps stated in other articles).

Does anyone have a similar problem? if so do you have any solution?

Yes indeed. Had reported this issue at Apple Support. After iOS 14.6, the smart battery indicator no longer appears at lock screen the moment u plug in/unplug the charging cord, and the iPhone apparently draws power from the internal battery instead of the case. Remove/re-attach the case seems to be the temporary solution. The issue did not occur prior to iOS 14.6, i really believe it’s a iOS bug. Hope Apple Team could investigate & rectify it asap as it’s quite a serious issue.

I contacted Apple support a few days ago with this. They recommended taking the phone out of the case and plugging them in to charge separately, then restarting the phone and plugging it back in the case. The problem was not fixed. When I mentioned that the problem happened right after doing the update, they repeatedly told me a software update couldn’t cause a problem with the case, since the case was hardware. I replied that articles online about the case describe it as a software-hardware integration. I agreed to wait a few days and see if Apple could solve the problem.

I just discovered with my iPhone 11 Pro Max that the phone AND the Apple battery case seem to be charging when together and the power cord is only attached to the case.

Last week I noticed I could charge the battery case independently of the phone and vice versa. Each could fully charge (plugged in). The case while charging displayed an orange light and when fully charged changed to green.

As evident from all the posts it seems the phone is being charged and not the battery case. Indeed my 11 is showing 100% charged all the time. Yesterday my phone was used quite a bit and habit made me recharge the phone in the battery case over night. I thought, idiot, you know there’s a problem!” I removed the phone from the case, plugged in the case only and found to my joy, the charging light was green! I repeated the experiment with the same result.

if you have an 11 PRO MAX and the genuine Apple battery case give it a try. I will report back if anything changes. If both can simultaneously charge consistently then it is a software bug for this iPhone combo. I cannot speak for other iPhones/battery case combinations.

Good luck and I hated removing the phone all the time and smudging my camera lens!

RETURN YOUR CASE, GET A FREE REPLACEMENT, that is, If Case is Under Warranty, Return it, maybe this will get Apple Attention, My Case was under Warranty, so, I returned my Case, and they replaced it for free, then realized that it was not the Case, it was Apple that changed the software. They should explain why, and what to expect now. APPLE, Please help us here.

There’s always a class action, that will get their attention . I’ve had the same issue since updating , have notified them about it , even he battery was replaced . The apple smart charging case still not worming the way it was before the update . Sure I can take it out of the case , wait and reinsert , but honestly who wants to do that everyday .

The basic functionality is working again but the stats in the battery section are screwed up. It still treats the battery case as being plugged into the wall all the time. For example it shows the little lightning bolt and stripe shade over the battery level. Before on 14.5.1 and below after you unplug the stripes would go away on the battery level. Plus the usage stats are goofy and wildly incorrect. For example it shows ESPN using 90% battery for 1 minute of background use. Hopefully they fix these things. It’s better but still not like before.
