Since iOS 14.6 update iPhone's battery drains while my smart battery case remains fully charged

Have you updated to 14.7?

Xr. It’s fine when I restart but if I don’t restart for a couple days it starts to use the phone battery first.

Thank you for posting on Apple Support Communities. It looks like you have read the correct article: Charge your iPhone with your Smart Battery Case.

If you are still having problems with the case/iPhone combo, you should contact Apple Support as stated in that same article, at the bottom. There might possibly be a hardware issue going on with one of the two devices.

Mine had this same problem but has now sorted itself out. Working fine. Removed phone and inserted again twice and it seemed to work. Battery case charge level doesn’t show in the Lock Screen but is keeping the phone charged.

This does not help. After you unplug it, it will run your phone battery down first while leaving the charger at 100 percent. It will prompt you to enter low power mode and eventually power off your phone, all without ever drawing on power from the case. Very significant problem, still unsolved.

The only way the charge case now works is if you take the case off then put it back on, no icon on main screen like there used to be when plugged charger in telling you the case & phone charge , come on Apple get it sorted, not even third party charge case these ones probably still work as normal ! You’ve messed up your own product!

I updated my iPhone 11 to 14.6. Same issues as noted. In the past when this happened I could remove case and then reinstall and not have problems until the next iOS update. Not with 14.6. Time spent with tech trying many different things to no avail. Advised I would have to wait for a future update. As others have noted the case removal and reinstall will temporarily partially fix the issue, but it returns with the next charge cycle.

Hardly what would be considered a fix. My phone repeatedly dies at 1% while the Apple battery case sits with a full charge and phone says it is being charged.

come on Apple take the blame and fix this thing.

Same issue. My smart charging case isn’t recognized most of the time and also can’t charge while plugged into my iPhone. I have to take the phone out of the case. Charge them separately and hope throughout the day the case stays compatible with the phone and charges it. It’s infuriating because both are Apple products.

I have an iPhone 7 with the smart battery case. I have tried the usual ways to reduce battery power (brightness, stopping the background refresh and turning off bluetooth) but the phone still drains down with the battery case fully charged. The icon on the main screen showing the amount of battery left in the smart case has gone to be replaced by one that looks like a second phone that shows fully charged with the phone's battery depleting.

Apple, if you are listening, I don’t think you get the problem.

when the smart case and phone are fully charged, throughout the day the phone battery is running down, but says it is charging, however the smart case battery remains at 100% as the phone runs down and eventually shuts down.

the fixes listed here only are valid until the phone and case are recharged then the issue repeats.

Has anybody dialed into Apple and reported this problem? A lot of times nothing will be done unless you call in and get escalated up to a senior advisor and then bug them to call up the engineers and see if they are aware of the problem. Trust me I’ve been down this road before with other technical problems! I haven’t had time to call in and complain. Hopefully a few hundred of you have or this may never show up on their radar! I’ll remain on 14.5.1 until I see an official fix for this! How annoying!

My SE 2020 model worked just fine with apple’s battery case prior to the update . As a matter of fact that comment was made by apple support before I bought it. All they mentioned was the dimension was off by .01mm, still it fits and worked fine prior to update 14.6

Worked for me too. Just encountered this for the first time after I "upgraded" to iOS14 today, which is almost always a bad idea as we have learned with the Apple battery problems and other new bugs that almost always pop up. To ntobin99's point, this does not solve the issue, but at least it is a klugy workaround until Apple gets around to actually hopefully solving it with another "upgrade..."

And the BS from the Genius's at Genius about how this can't happen because it is hardware and "upgrades" don't impact hardware, I can also support that they are wrong, as I did the "upgrade" and it was immediately (like seconds) after that I plugged the thing in and was at a single battery indicator point and the battery case failed for the first time.

Thanks iMomo7 and community for helping with at least a klunky workaround until Apple solves this! And remember the song (sung to 100 bottles of beer on the wall):

Take one down, fix the bug, 132 software bugs on the wall...........

It’s the update. My phone and wife’s phone have the exact same problem. I updated the at the exact same time and The cases are only 3 months old.
