Since iOS 14.6 update iPhone's battery drains while my smart battery case remains fully charged

Im another one with the same issue. I just bought Apple iPhone XS Max Smart Battery Case, and it's not working. I can see it under battery levels with other accessories, and that's about it. Once it managed to start charging the phone, but that's about it.

You instructed to: 'Turn on charging case'. How do I 'Turn on charging case?' And after I do this hack, does this fix the problem, or is it just a way to get the Charging Case to drain before the Phone, and will I have to do this every day, or is it a permanent fix.

Right it was fine. And taking it in and out of the case is not the easiest thing when you are a female with long nails not to mention I am spending more time messing around each day with these “hacks” trying to see which one works on any given day! Come on now Apple needs to push out a permanent fix.

We lost power in my house last night due to a storm. Normally I would have had no issues because my case would have kicked in (one of the many reasons I bought it). Of course this time it did not and my phone died. I guess I need to locate my battery pack for next time. I am starting to think this is never going to work again. Thanks Apple. What a piece of trash.

Please fix the Apple Smart Case problem that started after the last update that affects my Apple Smart Phone Charging Case, the case does not work as it was designed now. Please fix this , the phone battery drains while the Smart case does not charge the phone. Please help us here. I loved it so much, and still do if it will work. I can force it to work, but that can't be the Apple Way. If you can't fix it, please just let us know what happened and what we can expect going on from here. Please help us out here.

I can't post the details on this group, but does appear - fingers crossed - this has been fixed. Keep watching for iOS updates in the very near future. Hope that helps people out, not intending to break any forum rules.

Unfortunately, none of the suggested actions has worked for me to get the combination to work as it had been prior to 14.6. Really frustrating that Apple don’t seem to see fit to confirm this is actually an issue nor be bothered to address it with fix. Very poor. Notwithstanding the issues encountered on my MacBook Pro after the recent MacOS updates.

Someone had posted that Apple was going to release a fix for this in an update but I have not seen anything come out yet. I am ready to take my case off and replace it with something else. I have always had a really hard time getting a kick stand/ring holder to stay on the back of this charging case (to the point I have superglued one on it) so if it’s not going to work to charge the phone, I might as well just go ahead and remove it. I am going to though take it to the apple store and ask that I get a store credit for it. It is well beyond the exchange period but I bought it at that store and even if I did not I think apple should be refunding people for these cases. On another note I wonder if people that own non apple smart cases are having these issues? I suspect yes but would be curious to know.

Obviously the smart-battery case prolongs the lifetime of the device, whose utterly inadequate battery provision is designed to make sure it has a short lifetime, so messing up the software support for the smartbattery device is in Apple's marketing interest.

( Apple) want us to buy a way over priced new phone because of their subpar batteries ?

Them including this in their last update ( taking away batt use) is so they can make more money ?

They know about this and aren’t doing anything to update and remedy the issue ???

This makes me want to switch from being a loyal Apple iPhone user to Samsung or something !!!

Yes, how easily this case coating wears out should be a recall. I'm on my second smart case and not because the battery died but the case fell apart and I don't do anything excessive. It wears thin just from placing and removing from a pocket and then the coating goes and it falls apart. This has to be the lowest quality product I've seen from Apple.

Do you know if there is any other official way to report this? I tried to chat with them but I feel like that was not official? I thought about tweeting at them but not sure they care. I am on the beauty review site Influenster and I posted a question on there and a lot of people responded they are having this issue too.

I have an SE 2020 and was using my I phone 7 smart case on it prior to the update with zero issues and shutting down and restarting the phone does not fix the problem . So maybe it only works with certain models?

I was responding to the other comment that said you just had to turn the phone on and off that does not work. Your fix does but I am not doing it everytime I charge my phone it kills my nails (female) and my phone is constantly charging which is the reason I got the smart case in the first place.

I agree. I wasted several hours at the so called “genius bar” trying to troubleshoot this problem when a simple admission that it was a software bug and the suggestion of a temporary workaround would have addressed the issue.
