Downloaded lossless songs stop at 15 seconds every time

iPhone 11 latest iOS, all downloaded lossless songs (data for Music is off) stop playing right at the 15 second mark. When on wifi, no problems at all. Non-lossless songs also no problem. It's only with lossless songs that are downloaded to the phone. Anyone else? Didn't happen yesterday or even this morning, that's the odd thing. Also tends to freeze up the app to some degree as well.

Doesn't matter if it's directly on the phone's speakers, bluetooth, or usb connection to either car or home A/V receiver. Same problem.

Did this in airplane mode, too... same problem. Force quit the app.... same problem. Restarted the phone.... same problem and then hard restarted the phone.... same problem.

Only thing left is to wipe the phone and restore it from my back up.... last resort only.

Anyone else run into this?

I had this problem as well a few days ago! The ONLY thing that worked after trying everything was signing out of my Apple ID / iCloud (it takes a few mins to sign out, the option is at the very bottom) under my main profile in the settings app, then signing back in ! For some reason this completely solved my problem. Just thought I would share this in case it helps someone else! I was on call with multiple Apple support people and the last person I talked to suggested this and it worked :)

Apple Support needs to stop immediately suggesting for customers to restore their iPhones whenever a software bug is reported. That practice is a poor discovery effort in understanding the real cause of a code bug. I also feel that this policy is a disservice to software engineers and QA that actually do want to make quality products that “just work”.

I currently have the same issue on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. My work around to this bug (which will not be solved by restoring an iPhone), is to not opt for Lossless downloads. Hopefully this issue will actually be properly reported so that Apple can release a fix.

I've been dealing with this error for a couple of weeks now, I've uninstalled and re-install apple music many times but I've still got the error.

there is one thing that I've tried and I think it fixed the error...

What I did was, I played all my downloaded album and songs while I was connected to the internet.

By doing this I didn't get any error for all the songs that I've downloaded while playing it offline...

But still, Apple should fix this problem... It's kinda annoying.

I hope this will help...

I have the issue since day 1 the lossless music released

Tried many ways/ time as per the Apple support stuff over phone :

-Reinstalled music app

-Switch on / off about the hi res / lossless options

-sign out / in Apple ID. (Very troublesome )

it was OK just few hours but all fail next day again and again .

the only stupid way to overcome this problem is to switch on “ mobile data “ for those downloaded music . It sounds extremely ridiculous for Apple product / IOS/ App….

Yesterday I tried it again with Apple Music lossless songs and also on 14.7 they stopped after 15 seconds like before.

So Apple didn't change a Bit.

Guess it's an DRM problem, Apple or the Music Industrie don't like that we listen offline to lossless songs ...

It works if mobile data for Music is on.

I followed the above directions after experiencing the same issue, also to no avail. Hopefully the next update fixes this? Interestingly, I’ve also noticed that by allowing a data connection, whether via cellular or WiFi, while the song is in its “non-playing state”, and then turning the data off again, the song can then play entirely through without issue. This makes me think the song is fully downloaded to my phone, and that this issue is with reading it, rather than streaming it.

Okay i had the same problem , after chatting with apple support it got fixed somehow or rather.

download another or new song first , check if the new song plays pass the 15 secs mark . If it does then try streaming next.

next find another new song , and try playing it via streaming directly.

it worked for me . Im guessing its either a bug or like a data error.

try it and let me know. If it works for you too.

[Problem NOT Solved for me yet, still testing]

Hi all,

I had same issue and tried this fix:

  1. Sign out of Apple ID from App Store
  2. Switch iPhone completely OFF
  3. Switch iPhone back ON
  4. Sign in again in App Store with Apple ID
  5. Run Apple Music Again
  6. Offline Music in Lossless will now play beyond 15 second mark (note some of the previously download track need to be downloaded again - depending on how fast you are to complete above process ;) )

hope this works for the rest of you!

Best Regards,

Warvenger

I have same issue from south korea and it’s totally messed up. Talk with apple korea support for 2 hours of call but they couldn't even figure out what the problem was.

They said that the download button is a cache function, and it becomes impossible to play after few days(3 days in my experience). And they said that all downloaded music should be streamed once every 3 days to play without any problems at offline.

I'm angry with apple support who answer without knowing exactly, but I'm really disappointed with Apple for deploying without even checking basic features
