Can't upload songs to library for iTunes matching

I can't upload any songs to my library for matching at Itunes match.

Uploading song has status - trying to match at Itunes Store.

And this status isn't changing at all.

Changing accounts, using other wifi networks - nothing helps.

The Problem began at Thursday. Before that day everything was OK.

Oh - and there is NO problem with downloading already matched songs.

So before the call with adviser I did some digging in macos. Music app logs: "log show --predicate 'processImagePath CONTAINS[c] "Music"' --last 2m" in command line. App connects and in few seconds connection get reset by remote server. Same picture in Wireshark - remote server sends RST or FIN packets short after session start.

I told all that to adviser, thats why he asked me to delete VPN profile, I think. He said it gets messed up on OS updates or something similar. Btw, I tested it again. Installed VPN.mobileconfig profile, connected VPN, added an album - no dice. Disconnected VPN - no dice. Removed profile - no dice (!). Restarted macbook - instant match all songs. So its def networking something.

I've been having the same issue since July 16th. Spent two hours with Apple Chat and no avail. I've tried on different networks, on both windows and mac and the "Matching your music with songs in iTunes store" status gets stuck about 45% and then just sits there. Only one/few tracks form albums get "matched" and the others just sit in limbo as "waiting." Makes no sense when the songs are available in the iTunes Store and they are iTunes Convert AAC files from mp3s/m4as.

Come on Apple, fix the issue!

I recall getting it once before in the last week or two. During previous attempts at getting the "Update Cloud Library" command to work properly, the Activity window just shows the process as being almost complete but still working.

I've even tried signing out of iCloud, shutting down my MBP, restarting my Bell Canada Fibe modem, restarting my Apple AirPort Extreme (6th gen) before restarting my MBP and signing back into iCloud. I know, I know, I'm running some fairly old hardware but it never usually gives me any trouble. Also, signing out of iCloud is a real desperation move that I find is truly disruptive and sends my two ancient Time Machine spinning platter hard drives into a noisy tizzy. All this is a sign of how desperate I am to finish the job of ripping my classical CD collection into my local Library (only about 200 remaining!).

Ok, here’s some more strange behaviour:

…read an old post somewhere about downloading a purchased tune that was not held locally resolving some past ‘sync’ issues (not specifically the one we’re all currently complaining about)…

So I know I’ve deleted some purchased tracks because I’d since bought the CD and wanted to RIP @ ALAC quality… so went into iTunes Store/Purchased/Not In My Library and re-downloaded a few tracks…

They show in my Library (as iCloud Status: Waiting - never paid much attention previously, but why ‘waiting’ when iTunes downloaded this as a previous purchase?).

These re-downloaded songs are local on my MBP (used ‘show in finder’).

Also very surprised to see two of the purchased songs showing as ‘128 kbps’ rather than the standard 256 kbps that’s standard with iTunes Store purchases (2 other past purchases re-downloaded came in as 256kbps).

The 128kbps files show as kind: ‘Protected AAC audio file’ and have a blue dotted cloud icon (I thought we got Purchased rather than Protected when Apple removed DRM for music?). The 256 Kbps files show as ‘Purchased AAC audio file’; while also showing ‘Waiting’ these don’t have the blue dotted icon.

From my perspective, it looks like the iTunes Store catalogue is very screwy! IF that is widespread, then no wonder Match is struggling.

While I did all this, I’d already set another Library sync in progress (no positive outcome of course). I then cancelled and restarted the library sync. Two of the re-downloaded songs I’d managed to download twice (was that my fault, or something iTunes shouldn’t have allowed to happen?). On the attempted resync, nothing had changed in terms of waiting, except one of the duplicate pairs (not both) changed one of the songs from Waiting to Duplicate and from Protected to ‘MPEG-4 audio file’ - none of this is consistent or logical, IMO.

Anyway, while the exercise demonstrated that it’s still possible to download through iTunes (though can’t speak for new purchases, only re-downloading previous purchases), it hasn’t resolved the Match issue.

Same here for the past 10 days or so. I've managed to upload 3-4 songs in the past week by constantly signing in and out of the Music app on my 2017 iMac running Catalina. Have tried uploading via my M1 MacBook running the latest version of Big Sur and the issue remains the same so its definitely not hardware related. I've been a iTunes match subscriber since its inception and have never had any issues before. Looks like Apple are up to their old tricks of forcing us to "upgrade" us to Apple Music.

From various posts in this discussion, it's definitely not related to the client side of things. Also, as I recall, it's the match service in general including those using it as part of a full Apple Music subscription so no "tricks" involved. I was successful get a newly ripped CD to match about two days ago and tried another CD (19 tracks of Beethoven songs) yesterday. I just left the Update Cloud Library command running kept checking back on progress every now and then. 6 were matched after about 3hrs; a total of 9 after about 5 hrs; a total of 17 after about 8hrs; a total of 18 after about 10hrs; and, when I checked back after 11hrs it was all done.

Overall, then, it's barely working. Plus, I am now having problems with my iCloud Drive and Apple Photos. No doubt these were caused by earlier efforts to fix this prompted by Apple support and the idea that there must be a problem at my end. A big mistake!

I've got a theory about this, as I've been watching my library not upload for the past several days.

In the past, the songs would match, and then they'd clear off my "to be uploaded" smart playlist. (Not matched/not uploaded). Only unmatched files would upload. But now, the matched files aren't leaving the list and seem to be uploading.

This would mean that it would look like it's working to the Apple engineers, but the sheer bulk of incoming (previously matched) files would bog down everyone's uploads.

I have no way of testing that, though, but if an Apple engineer could find matched files in our cloud storage alongside unmatched files, it would confirm it.

Does that make sense?
