Can't upload songs to library for iTunes matching

I can't upload any songs to my library for matching at Itunes match.

Uploading song has status - trying to match at Itunes Store.

And this status isn't changing at all.

Changing accounts, using other wifi networks - nothing helps.

The Problem began at Thursday. Before that day everything was OK.

Oh - and there is NO problem with downloading already matched songs.

Well, I wanted to waste two hours of my life and I sure did by trying to contact Apple support regarding the issue. They made me try the typical things of log out / log on, uncheck iCloud Music Library and recheck. I even did an uninstall and reinstall of iTunes since a service agent found a communities post saying this fixed the issue back in 2019. Nothing helped as we knew it wouldn't. Almost like they couldn't comprehend that Apple might have an issue with their service. (But the iTunes Service status is Green on the website? lol) I tested loading an album into iCloud (an album previously already matched that I had downloaded and was fixing meta data prior to re-importing into iTunes Match) and 6 out of 18 matched but looks like the process timed out and 12 are now in the "Waiting" iCloud Status. Only thing I can do is either delete them from the library or select File -> Library -> Update iCloud Music Library and hope more match or upload. So far not making much progress as the Library Update usually times out with no progress after 30 minutes. My recommendation would be to not mess around on your side and we just have to wait this one out. Maybe more tickets open will get supports attention.

One trick I use (even before all of this issue) is to manually update Genius before and after doing a manual Update Library. Sometimes it wakes it up and matches a few. But I wouldn't give up on Match too easily just yet. I've been using it since it came out and one good thing about Match is that it's a nice backup for your smart playlists. If you lose your ITL file, you just sign into cloud and all your playlists come back. And it's $24/yr.

I would bet this is just related to the 3.6 update and that this is like a construction zone where they will fix it. It's very frustrating that they don't admit it's not working and that their CSRs keep having us remediate the issue when the problem is on their side.

Using Windows 10 and I have tried everything.

I don't believe this is an issue with my device for one minute - like everyone else says, it was working beautifully up until about a week or so ago. Now, it's taken me five days of fiddling to get about 10 songs matched/uploaded.

I thought it was a Windows update but it looks like MACs are having the same problem.

One observation. If the match process can't match a song and has to upload it, this works really quickly.

I had a whole album where nothing could be matched and the album was uploaded in a couple of minutes. So it confirms that the actual matching process that is broken.

Wonder if we are going into yet another week where Apple just don't seem to be able to fix this problem?

You have to remember that the majority of iTunes Match subscribers are unlikely to have tried adding to their library in the last 2-3 weeks, so are completely unaware of the issues.

No doubt the Apple System status is reflecting whether cloud-based audio is available to stream, which we should all recognise as being the case; our issues are with uploading of new content.

It is NOT completely impossible to upload new content, but something is very wrong in terms of performance. 24 hours into trying to upload 22 tracks, I am still getting nowhere with 2 songs.

please use Twitter to ask for help - these community boards seem totally ignored by Apple, except for their ‘community policy’ police enforcing the rules of what you can or can’t say.

There’s a lot of Twitter messages under #iTunesMatchBroken

I’m so pleased I came across this thread as it’s been driving me crazy. I uploaded three CDs on 27 July and one of them took two days to appear across my devices, one took four days and one just didn’t seem to want to be available at all. I deleted the album, re imported it and 23 of the 30 tracks appeared within a few minutes on my iPhone and iPad with 7 still doing whatever it is they do while they sit in limbo.

It never used to the like this. I could import an album and within minutes it was available on all devices. This just seems to me like Apple have got problems with their service and they just don’t want to admit it doesn’t work properly.

I've got a theory about this, as I've been watching my library not upload for the past several days.

In the past, the songs would match, and then they'd clear off my "to be uploaded" smart playlist. (Not matched/not uploaded). Only unmatched files would upload. But now, the matched files aren't leaving the list and seem to be uploading.

This would mean that it would look like it's working to the Apple engineers, but the sheer bulk of incoming (previously matched) files would bog down everyone's uploads.

I have no way of testing that, though, but if an Apple engineer could find matched files in our cloud storage alongside unmatched files, it would confirm it.

Does that make sense?

Hi,

I am from Germany and I have this problem now for 2 weeks.

The iTunes app on Windows or Apple Music on Mac will not even try to upload after a restart. The ring of fire is turning and nothing will happen. If you wait for many hours iTunes Match will manage to upload 1-2 songs. In the last two weeks I've catched some good moments where iTunes Match worked perfect for only few minutes. But it is still very slow or does not match or upload.

Last week I've contacted the Apple support and they wanted to call me back but due to some reasons the recall didn't take place.

I have a relative in Cyprus who has the same problem and I've found also a german Twitter user complaining the situation.

I hope this will be fixed soon as I my membership will be renewed in a few weeks. If this will be not fixed I will quit this wonderful service.

This is happening for me for the past few weeks - I cannot believe Apple are ignoring this issue - I did try to contact Apple Support but I was mostly told to delete the tracks that were not syncing and add them again. Pretty useless advice though though trial and error I was able to sync most of the tracks but it took days of adding a few, deleting the ones that were stuck and adding them again.

On the first level I've been told to disconnect the iphone from the icloud and connect again. I've asked them how this would help as you cannot upload songs from iPhone.

I've also been asked several times to update my software on Windows or Mac OS. Sorry but iTunes on Windows hasn't receive any updates for months now and I've already update to the new MacOs version... I've told them but still kept asking me the same and same things.

The lady on the second level understood my problem but since them I've haven't received any update.

Also very strange is: when you've put some new tracks on iTunes or Apple music but switched off the computer a few minutes later the matching or upload process will start again if you switch on the mac or PC and open iTunes or Apple Music. But now this function will not start automatically

So is there any chance to escalate this together? And how?

I'm still awaiting the last 3 of 26 tracks to finish the process that I started last week. Have been seeing a few each day. However noticed something else happening to my overall library. Looks like a lot of my albums ripped from CD are now designated 'uploaded' vs 'matched' . This is puzzling given many are by artists ( e.g: Genesis, Led Zep , Beatles, fleetwood mac, coldplay ) that you would expect to be in the Apple library. Also have a few entries showing blank Icloud status. I have no archive to double check if they were that way before but my first reaction is that the % uploaded is now much higher than before. Library has approx 18000 tracks in it.

Aug 2, 2021 5:03 PM in response to lightfader

Like you lightfader, I’m seeing many songs showing as “uploaded” from popular artists/albums and even examples of a few uploaded songs where others from the same album are showing “matched”. I’ve now seen about another 300 songs matched in the past 24 hours - having restarted Music app twice due to the “genius” error.

Aug 2, 2021 6:26 PM in response to Michael K. W

Following this thread for the past two weeks, we've gone from "outage" to "it's working, just slowly and not what I am used to."

I am starting to wonder if Apple introduced some throttling either by mistake or by design. There could be an inbound network throttle, or a workload throttle in their server farm or even in the back end storage subsystem. We can only speculate without knowing how iTunes Match is architected.

If this is the case though, Support's stock response of "delete it and try it again" would only make the problem worse by flooding a queue that is already full.

And that goes double for all the experimentalists out there who are deleting and re-uploading their 88,000 track libraries. :))
