What is causing email to download so slowly that it has virtually stopped since updating to iOS 15?

Replying to myself, with additional info. You might need to also reset your network settings after disabling the Protect Mail Activity and Hide My IP.
Settings/General/Transfer or reset iPhone/reset/reset network settings.
if you look at the Protect Mail activity description it says it’s using a multiple proxies. Then add Hide My IP and now you seemingly have put a bunch of hops and relays in between yourself and your email and then hid your IP so if it could get to you after all that, you are still hiding from it.
The features sound good and cool and it would be great if they worked (and maybe there is some Apple Techno Magic they do to make it all work some how), but I think if you want speed, you can’t turn on all the blocks/hides/reroutes just yet and expect it to work like it did before.
Sorry for that crazy typo. It’s supposed to say “with literally thousands of people…”. (And, I really do mean literally…..if you look at the tally of “I agree” and such…)

I tried everything mentioned and nothing worked. This is frustrating since I need to get in my email often. When will there be a update to fix the problem with the last update?
Just carried out the 15.6 update and expecting the problem to be solved. Alas, nothing changed and email problem still there. So bitterly disappointed with apple.

Just checked and It was off on my iPhone, but still on , on the iPad, so have now got both OFF and will see how it goes.

Mine’s off, have checked again, have updated IOS and also even removed Mail app and data and reinstalled it but still no good. Is it worse with some kinds of mail providers and protocols?!?
Disabling privacy settings should not be a fix. Ever.
Sounds like the people who claim to value privacy are snooping on our email. Just like a piece of encrypted software failing to load in the early days
