What is causing email to download so slowly that it has virtually stopped since updating to iOS 15?

Replying to myself, with additional info. You might need to also reset your network settings after disabling the Protect Mail Activity and Hide My IP.
Settings/General/Transfer or reset iPhone/reset/reset network settings.
if you look at the Protect Mail activity description it says it’s using a multiple proxies. Then add Hide My IP and now you seemingly have put a bunch of hops and relays in between yourself and your email and then hid your IP so if it could get to you after all that, you are still hiding from it.
The features sound good and cool and it would be great if they worked (and maybe there is some Apple Techno Magic they do to make it all work some how), but I think if you want speed, you can’t turn on all the blocks/hides/reroutes just yet and expect it to work like it did before.
Samsung have made it much easier to completely migrate from our iOS Apple cells. That’s the only solution, as Apple clearly do not care.
I’m having the same issue. It’s so frustrating. Please fix this ASAP. My mail is also not loaded until I open the app. Then it has to catch up and it takes so long to load the messages.
Emails are taken for ever to open since I switched to IPhone 14 pro max. What should I do?
Seems we’re all suffering still. I still have max s with similar issues. Am considering leaving apple after using their iPhones for years. My GF uses google phones and says my iPhone is a brick :)
I have cleared and deleted all cache. 16.1.1 is slow in every app, every download, every screen refresh, every command is slow AF
No, this does not help. Every screen refresh, app opening, search, EVERY COMMAND is slow AF
Applying these changes does not fix the issue.

many emails slow to open and/or won’t open pictures. Since update 15 & 16. Any help out there??
Won’t doing this expose me more to fraud and scammers etc?

This worked for me but it’s probably too simple to work for everyone….
Settings > Mail > Accounts > Fetch New Data > Automatically - (Changed from “Every 15 Minutes”)
Now, when I manually check, it is almost immediate just like before the upgrade (and I have 10 mail accounts). The “Checking for Mail…" process used to take up to 20 seconds whether i had mail or not.
NOTE: Not so sure if it is the option I chose or just the change from one to the other that triggered this fix for me.
