The fix for me was disabling Protect Mail Activity. Settings/Mail/Privacy Protection/ and turn off Protect Mail Activity and Hide IP address. Now checking Mail in the app works as fast as it did in ios14.
When I updated to Ios15 one of the options I remember getting prompted for was more privacy around Mail so I said yes. It works so well apparently you can’t check or send gmail accounts in a reasonable time frame with the iOS mail app.
I tried most of the other things in this thread before hand and nothing worked. Try turning off that new feature for now and see if things start working better.
New ios has additional features in wifi that slows down mail from
loading faster in ios mail app. Go to:
settings>wifi>click "i" next to your connected wifi network> turn off Private Wi-Fi Address and also turn off Limit IP Address Tracking. This should solve the problem. Hope it helps you.
My mail for my email on one phone is 10 hours behind and counting. The other runs a couple hours behind on average (last few weeks).
it is so bad, that I feel like I really need to go to Gmail, to securely get my stuff in time. This has been going on for several weeks, the slowness part.
My phones are all updated and current.
Same here, i am so frustrated that i miss a lot of things, appointments, invites, reports etc. just because i read mails late because my mails are not updating unless i go to mail and spam refresh. Sending mails are also freaking slow they get stuck in the outbox. I then turned off the privacy protection in Settings>Mail>Privacy Protection Protect Mail activity and Hide IP Address, and sending is now fast, but fetching mail is still slow, way better than before but still slow. And since i turned off the privacy protection i feel naked now. so this is not a good solution! The mail accounts doesn’t have Push option too! unlike icloud. All others only have fetch. but even if fetch is set as automatic and not a time interval, it doesnt seem like it is fetching data automatically. This is just so annoyingly frustrating and honestly causes more harm to those people whose time is very critical to their job!
Hi-Just lost my **** with this and after a web chat, got a call back from AppleCare.
If you have a vpn on your phone, disable it, switch your phone off, switch it back on, give it two minutes, switch on your vpn and it seems to work. Not sure how long this fix will last though! Watch this space.....
Since updating to ios 15, it takes a LONG time to download emails and then just stops!! It’s very frustrating. I never had this issue before the update. What’s up Apple??
I have done this multiple times and it does not resolve the issue.
The free space remained the same, i was just pointing out that storage wasn’t an issue. Both devices are rather new, 12 Pro and M1 iPad Pro. Thank you for the help, I can say the issue was resolved.

You are welcome.
Mine’s off, have checked again, have updated IOS and also even removed Mail app and data and reinstalled it but still no good. Is it worse with some kinds of mail providers and protocols?!?
You are welcome.
Thank you for the quick reply.
Never mind, it is better, but starting to fall behind again. It will say "updated just now" when I refresh, but it won't download all recent mail.
I have the same experience. Mail app reinstalled and still iOS 15 renders the mail app non functional on iPad.
I have eleven mailboxes on my iphone X. Mail was very slow on IOS upgrade. I just waited a few hours for mail to synchronize and it regained speed.
