What is causing email to download so slowly that it has virtually stopped since updating to iOS 15?

Replying to myself, with additional info. You might need to also reset your network settings after disabling the Protect Mail Activity and Hide My IP.
Settings/General/Transfer or reset iPhone/reset/reset network settings.
if you look at the Protect Mail activity description it says it’s using a multiple proxies. Then add Hide My IP and now you seemingly have put a bunch of hops and relays in between yourself and your email and then hid your IP so if it could get to you after all that, you are still hiding from it.
The features sound good and cool and it would be great if they worked (and maybe there is some Apple Techno Magic they do to make it all work some how), but I think if you want speed, you can’t turn on all the blocks/hides/reroutes just yet and expect it to work like it did before.
I did what you suggested but it only seemed to work for a little while and now it’s back to “loading” forever.

This is something Apple needs to address. Everyone has a different “fix” which works for awhile then stops.
Nothing worked for me- iPhone 13 Max Pro with plenty of memory- iOS 15.3.1 and mail has become unusable it’s so slow. Tried every solution listed here

Your tip is just marvelous. After updating to iOS 15.4, mail almost was not working. I even went to use outlook. After doing what you said, it returned back to normal.

Same here. Most times if I don’t open my app I don’t get emails. Sometimes I open my Mail app and get emails from an hour before. How am I supposed to run a business this way
It takes forever and a day….not really that long, to open email on my iPad, however it does not occur on my iPhone. I have tried all of the suggestions I have seen posted.
Exactly what I see...sometimes even just trying to return back to the email list from reading an email. I can't believe it hasn't been addressed yet by Apple. Very annoying.
This has gone on for far to long without Apple addressing the issue! Apple, please fix this massive problem.

I believe the apple servers are at capacity because the iCloud Relay (proxy) is tar slow.
It seems to happen with me if I receive a large file from a company.
I am new to all this discussion, but wonder, do Apple move on these problems, as I never see any comment from them …??
