CAR Play Issues after IOS15 Update Cannot Load SiriusXM Or Amazon Music

Even though I can start the Sirius XM app on my iPhone and play a station when I go to the app on the car's radio screen and hit favorite channels I get a message that It cannot load Sirius XM I have to go to my phone to change the channel.

Same with Amazon music I can select a track on the iPhone but if I trying to open the app on the car radio screen gives me a can not load amazon music.

My head unit is an Alpine ILX-W650

These apps worked prior to me updating to IOS15

Hi FPGFHFMA,

We see after updating your iPhone to iOS 15, CarPlay no longer works properly with Sirius XM or Amazon Music.

As the iPhone has been recently updated, do you also have any updates for those specific apps in the App Store?

Additionally, as CarPlay interfaces with both your iPhone and the CarPlay software in your receiver, it is possible the Alpine unit may need an update for iOS 15. If the issue persists after updating the relevant apps on your iPhone, we'd recommend reaching out to Alpine for assistance in updating the firmware of the CarPlay compatible receiver if need be, or confirm its compatibility with iOS 15.

Take care.

Same issue in my Ford Explorer with Sync 3. Apple Carplay worked perfectly until I updated my phone to iOS 15. Given that it's a widespread issue, we'll just have to wait for Apple to sort it out.

On a side note about switching to Android, as a former Android Auto user, don't switch as Android Auto is way buggier. Since I switched to an iPhone Pro Max 12, it's been flawless up till upgrading to iOS 15.

Amazes me that people go to these discussions and do read any of it.

in case Apple is reading this:

my X5 was updated to the latest version today 072021.46 and no improvement on SXM or Amazon Music connecting in the app favorites or search.

I do however have duel screen capability for Apple Navigation and it works great.

Waze is buggy and causes audio problems in other apps and voice control no longer works.

i do not understand how these glaring issues were over looked in Beta. No big deal just another modern problem.

I'm having the same issue with the Downcast app. I can play podcasts from my phone, but the interface just says Can't Connect. I've checked the app store and there are no new updates to Downcast at this time. I'm also having major connection issues with CarPlay in general since updating to iOS 15 - I had to restart my phone and head unit twice this morning just to get it to connect. 2019 Honda Civic and iPhone 12 Pro.

If you're still on iOS 14 I would recommend waiting a while before updating. I wish I had, especially since Apple is now pushing out security updates for 14 even if you don't update to 15.

same here..... used the iPhone SE with iOS 14.8 on CarPlay via hotspot option and had full internet/webbrowser access (the banner on top was always blue). This morning after the iOS15 update last night, I connected the iPhone (as always via USB -- problem is the same with BlueTooth ...) and hotspot is connected (1 connected visible on banner) BUT no internet (on the CarPlay you don't see the 'globe' symbol). It all worked fine with iOS14.8 and before.....

urgent patch needed :(

Clearly an IOS15 issue. My phone worked fine minutes prior to the upgrade. Post upgrade it doesn’t. It doesn’t work in a Ford Escape, a Thor Motorhome, on a Kenwood receiver, a JVS receiver or a Chevy Silverado or a Chevy Equinox. My wife’s phone, unupgraded still works fine. Issues are loss of connectivity for no reason to CarPlay. Calls switching to the blue tooth connection on the radio but with no audio for no reason. Have to unplug and replug the cable to get it back. Maps loses connectivity. Numerous audio apps like audible, Spotify have issues as well. ALL radios will report something like “error connecting to USB device”. Have also tried multiple cables, and confirmed unupgraded phones work fine on these cables. So telling everyone it isn’t your problem isn’t going to fly.

Please fix your software and issue an update asap.

Why is there not any media attention with this issue? I cannot find any issues relevant to this upgrade except for this site only. I would think there would be a vociferous hue and cry from the mass public - I don't get it. Did this offensive upgrade only affect a slight few? Surely Apple will not hear our pleas from this site alone. I simply don't get it. I cannot listen to any of my music apps on my phone due to this upgrade and the only resolution is waiting for Apple's net upgrade???? Seriously?

After reading all these responses (and experiencing the same with ALL of my music apps in my 2019 Audi the fault has to lie with iOS 15. Many different automobiles and manufactures and head units all having the exact same problem is statistically improbable. The common theme in every case being the upgrade to iOS 15 is 99.99999% probable.

Until Apple updates IOS 15 I’ve found a work around that’s giving me full CarPlay functionality with the SiriusXM app. I’m using my old 5S (IOS 12.5.5) phone connected to my car by USB with Wi-Fi on, Bluetooth and cellular data off. I’m using my new SE (IOS 15) phone as a personal hotspot to connect my 5S phone to the network. Works like a charm.

Thanks, Txlslander.

Yes. I disabled and turned on the EQ. It works perfectly now. I have tried so many things like resetting, and setting up and even changing to the original Apple USB cable. It kept saying "audio off" even though I could turn on FM.

Don't know what it's about, but as long as it works now, I am fine. In fact, I made an appointment with Lexus to fix the problem next week.
