Apple TV remote issue

I have a 3rd gen Apple TV and have lost my remote. Trying to pair with my iPhone 12 to use it as a remote, but it is prompting me to enter the pairing code on my Appletv rather than my iPhone. I can’t do this since I don’t have the remote. How do I resolve this?
