Iphone 13 pro overheating

I barely used my new iphone which I got last Monday night 2 nights ago. I noticed overheating while I was transferring files from my old phone and while it is connected with charger. It doesn’t have protective film nor casing yet so I don’t use it at all. And now, that I’m using it for browsing AT&T website for an hour, I found it overheating again.. No youtube or other apps were used. And still without protective case.

I have noticed for past week my iPhone 13 pro overheats as well and not during charging, just regular scrolling through Fb or some activity at amazon or eBay. top half portion gets extremely hot and becomes uncomfortable to even hold the phone. should I stop by at apple location for them to have a look at it? its not getting any better

If you fast charge it will get hot. But to repeat: The phone monitors its temperature continuously, and iIt will shut down if it gets too hot. So if it doesn’t shut down then the warmth you feel won’t hurt it. It gets hot because fast charging and interactive gaming uses a lot of energy.

The reason: It’s called the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Anything that creates or uses energy does so with some loss. That lost energy is expressed as heat. So when you charge the phone it generates heat in the power source, heat in the charger circuit in the phone, and heat as the energy goes into the battery. The faster the charging, the more heat is generated. Likewise when you discharge the battery; not all of the energy from the battery gets to the circuits that use it. Some of it becomes heat. If you use the cellular network for voice or data, converting energy to radio frequency signals is very wasteful; only about 30% of the energy that goes into the network components comes out as radio signals. Likewise for any graphics-intensive apps.

Thanks

but this unexpected heat up is unacceptable. And I can’t use it anymore. I have been using new iPhone 13 Pro Max Alpine for 2 weeks now and everyday I face several times the same issue of heating up. I don’t even use screenprotector or case. My usage is below average.

how can I replace it?

i am extremely disappointed.

ps: i have apple care and this is my first iPhone ever.

i am still thinking that I would have gone for pixel 6 :(

No, you can’t really hurt the battery with any charging routine that works for you. The only thing that can hurt the battery is letting it go to zero and shutting off, then not charging it within a day or so. But the best practice is to charge overnight, every night, with optimized charging enabled. This will extend the life of the battery better than any other routine.

the same is true for me bro. I'm so disappointed. my i phone 13pro is overheating just for simple tasks. This is actually my first iphone ever. My applewatch s7 battery life lasts merely 2 days . That's definitely not normal for 400$ watchI think. I am so disappointed. I will never ever buy apple products again in my life . I'd rather go for samsung Galaxy or Xiaomi phones. I bought mi band 6 recently for around 35$. It's battery life lasts for 2 weeks which is crazy for such a cheap product compared to iwatch s7

Guys there is one more thing in which apple has cheated us on a big margin

which is that they haven’t included the inbuilt noise cancellation in the phone just to promote the sales of airpods so that you guys will buy pods to make a call!

Apple has started doing business and I think this will be my last product from apple

Will never buy this iphone again

instead will go with samsung phones which are super lite in weight and super value for money products.

I bought my iPhone 13 pro max a month ago, I switched from Android to Apple because my Android was full of viruses and I was told Apple didn’t get viruses so that is why I switched! I was really happy with my new Apple iPhone until about a month in and it started over heating pretty bad so I called Apple support and told them my issue and they immediately overnighted me a new phone, the exact phone! I got it today and moved everything over to my new phone and mailed that one back and guess what? Same **** issue with this phone!! I haven’t had it 2 hours yet!! I will be taking this one back to AT&T on Monday when I get back from vacation!!! I think I’m going to try a different phone!!!!

I thought I was the only one! I used to have the iPhone 11 and never had such issues with the battery. And I used my iPhone 11 just as much if not more than my 13 Pro. Something very strange is going on here. I just bought the 13 Pro. Battery will get hot randomly just after casual use of the device (not even streaming or listening to music). Then 5 mins later it will become normal temperature. Second scenario is where I am charging the battery on a wireless charger. It will get really hot after 80%. I even tried turning off the Optimized Battery Charging option.

I suspect part of the problem is that the devices are getting more powerful from a processing perspective, thus requiring more energy. Maybe the batteries are not able to keep up.

So I just got off with Apple support and this helped me out. They had me go to general and then background app refresh and turn it all off. Lots of social media apps run in the background while you’re not using the phone. I surprisingly had over 24 hours of apps in the background. Also go to your battery section scroll down to battery usage by app and click the show activity tab. That’s where you can see how many apps still run in your background causing the phone to overheat. My top 5 like I stated earlier were running for more than 24 hours. Once I turned off all the background app refresh it’s been working fine so far, I’ll update if it changes but usually by now I would start feeling some heat. Also don’t just click background app refresh off. You have to actually click the tabs of each app to turn them off. Cause even though I had most of them off, some were on even when the whole section was tabbed off at the top

I bought my iPhone 13 Pro Max a month ago and have been using heavily the past month as a hotspot. Up until a couple days ago it would generate a little heat but not a lot like it does now. I noticed when recharging a couple days ago it stopped at 80% and didn't trickle up to 100% like all the help says it will. For about eight hours it was stuck on 80%. I rebooted it and that seemed to work then it froze again about an hour later and only about 83%. I unplugged it and let it cool off for about an hour then tried again. It was about midnight now and was slowly trickling up, plus I had turned the battery optimizing feature off.

The next day, yesterday, it was finally at 100% when I woke up and quickly discharged in a couple hours back down to 1% and was started the recharge cycle over again. I normally get at least 4-5 hours off a recharge when using as a hotspot but not this time, plus it was insanely hot to the touch, much hotter than normal.

Again I started the recharge cycle again and turned the battery optimize feature back on. It quickly recharges to 80% but then freezes again. This time I turn it off manually and let recharge overnight and it was at 100% this morning. It's still much hotter to the touch than previous.

I've got the latest update iOS 15.5 and all my apps are up-to-date and so forth. I only use the Apple charger and cord and I only leave plugged in to recharge.

I have an Otterbox Defender case but normally I couldn't feel the heat like I could the few days before I got the case but now even with the case it's much hotter than without.

I don't have a problem with it in my car because I have an air-conditioning vent blowing on it and I don't leave it in the car nor do I have it in sunlight, so all items for the car problems don't apply.

Other than the very few car trips, it's only used inside an air-conditioned home away from any heat source, directed sunlight, other electronics, etc, so all those items of concerned are checked off also but still it's overheating like crazy and discharging the battery much faster than usual.

The only thing I've done different that I can think of that may be the problem is I added some other devices to the Bluetooth list because it was after that I started having these heat and discharge issues. I've removed those devices and reset all settings but it's still overheating and over discharging.

I've tried looking for an app to diagnose this but can't find anything other than the usual hard drive cleaners and such.

I've done everything but a factory reset and that's something I don't want to do if a simple solution could be found instead.

Sorry for the long comment, I was just trying to put everything up front to avoid the back and forth with further questions and replies to what I've already done.
