Iphone 13 pro overheating

I barely used my new iphone which I got last Monday night 2 nights ago. I noticed overheating while I was transferring files from my old phone and while it is connected with charger. It doesn’t have protective film nor casing yet so I don’t use it at all. And now, that I’m using it for browsing AT&T website for an hour, I found it overheating again.. No youtube or other apps were used. And still without protective case.

So I just got off with Apple support and this helped me out. They had me go to general and then background app refresh and turn it all off. Lots of social media apps run in the background while you’re not using the phone. I surprisingly had over 24 hours of apps in the background. Also go to your battery section scroll down to battery usage by app and click the show activity tab. That’s where you can see how many apps still run in your background causing the phone to overheat. My top 5 like I stated earlier were running for more than 24 hours. Once I turned off all the background app refresh it’s been working fine so far, I’ll update if it changes but usually by now I would start feeling some heat. Also don’t just click background app refresh off. You have to actually click the tabs of each app to turn them off. Cause even though I had most of them off, some were on even when the whole section was tabbed off at the top

Same here, my new 13 Pro Max paused 5 or 6 times last night while transferring from 12 Pro due to overheating. I thought that was probably understandable with transferring data but today I only need to scroll through FB or insta for a couple of mins and it is too hot to hold. The heat is coming from just under and around the lenses on the back.

i just got my phone13 max pro and it’s over heating on the left upper hand side of the phone. It’s uncomfortable to hold. This cannot be a normal issue. Plenty of phones out there that do not over heat like this phone is currently overheating. The temperature is abnormally warm. All I am doing is browsing the internet looking for solutions about this heating issue and it’s burning hot. There has to be an issue with this phone.

Yoooo same, I knew I wasn’t tripping, my XS didn’t overheat at all. This is the biggest iPhone I’ve ever purchased but to say the least top left gets warm after just scrolling or doing something minimal. I have the 13 pro max fyi. Could be cause it’s a bigger phone? Idk apple isn’t too helpful when it comes to troubleshooting, but I also understand that humans tend to complain about the smallest things so idk my g it’s concerning but I guess that’s why we all have apple care right ? Lol cheers

Hi Lawrence, it is good to know the return policy. I am going to the Apple store today. How do I ensure it is a new phone and not a refurbished one? Since this seems to be a problem with the 13, is there a trick or way to prevent overheating? Possibly not charging it all the way? Also, any word on when a new phone will be released to fix this issue? I purchased the phone over a month ago but just received it in the mail 3 days before Christmas. So the 14 day return window is from the delivery date of the phone, right? I will also respond later tonight after my visit with Apple so I can post what they said/did.

This is my SECOND time buying an iPhone 13 pro. The first time I returned it because it was getting too hot after two days of purchase. Apple wouldn’t replace it, they troubleshoot it and said it was fine. SECOND TIME buying the IPhone 13 pro, overheating as soon as I unboxed it! I left it charging alone for 5 min and I immediately unplugged it when I realized it was extremely hot! Worse than my old phone. I will definitely be returning this trash phone AGAIN. I am very disappointed having to pay full amount upfront for a brand new phone that doesn’t feel brand new. Ridiculous.

Hello Can I asking If required to turn on Your background app refresh in iphone 13 I’m just Confusing To see in internet they said to off To save battery its true?? please answer me a good question thankyou

Background App Refresh is confusing, and Apple doesn’t explain it well. To start with, most apps on iOS devices are “event driven”. That means that something happens that is of “interest” to an app, and the app runs to deal with the event. Examples: A mail message arrives, so the Mail app runs to slurp it up. Likewise if a text message arrives; the Messages app runs to add it to the message list. A weather update arrives, so the Weather app runs briefly to add the latest information to the weather app. The same idea for the Stocks app, Find My, Apple News, dedicated news media apps, Facebook, Snapchat, WhatsApp, etc. In addition, Notifications that you have enabled also cause apps to run to process the Notification, so you know, for example, that a new text message has arrived.

All of these examples are apps that respond to an “event” that affects the app’s content. NONE of these "event-driven" apps are involved with Background App Refresh; they actually aren’t background processes at all, the are brief executions of the app behind the screen. Background App Processing is used by apps that create their own events; for example, the Photos app periodically organizes the images in your photo library into automatically generated albums. This was not caused by any external event; the app just “decided” that it was a good time to organize albums. Or the Messages app takes time to “clean up” the message database So it is only apps that decide, on their own, to do some “work” that use Background App Refresh. Very few apps actually take advantage of this feature that was added a couple of years ago. If you turn off Background App Refresh the apps that use it won’t do their “housekeeping” until you open the app, which may slow down your access to the app.

If you turn it off it will save some energy, but that energy will be used later when you open the app. So there is only minimal benefit to turning it off.
