Consistent issues with dropped subtitles

Regardless of which Apple TV show I am watching whether it be Tehran or Truth about 60 seconds after I press play the subtitles disappear. If I exit out of the shell or out of the Apple TV app and re-enter and press play again once again for about 60 seconds it will display the close captions. This does not necessarily matter in his show in which I understand the language, but it does matter when I watch Tehran. How do I fix this problem? It only happens in my Apple TV app.

It seems to me that the issue is more frequent when one pauses the video and turns it on again. But the frequency is hard to predict and thus recreate 1:1.. but happens multiple times while watching fx. Ted Lasso atm. Also DRM issues happens a couple of times. I have an ATV+ 3 month trial after buying new iphone. Sadly not going to prolong the trial if issue is not fixed by then. Otherwise nice service.

Experiencing the very same issue on Apple Tv app for Android TV (Philips) . After playing the show (in my case “Defending Jacob”) there are subtitles for about 30s and then they disappear. Tried switching subtitles of and on again, resetting the app - nothing helps, still subtitles for around 30 sec after playing. It’s strange, because I’ve watched the first episode without any issues, and it started happening from second episode.

Dropped subtitles are especially irritating when watching Macbeth, where it helps to see the words visually. We go back and forth to settings and reset, trying different fonts and transparency level, but nothing works. We gave up on the show. I like subtitles for all shows, by the way, since I misunderstand words from time to time.

That's a good point to mention, Vale. When you interrupt your show to fiddle with subtitles, often Apple sends you back to the beginning of the show. This can happen 2 or 3 times in a 45 minute show. I also use firestick, and all the other apps figured out subtitles long ago.

I am watching Suspicion, and the subtitles help for British accents or when someone mumbles.

I'm using outline all the time, it's hit or miss. Funny that severance and suspicion E1 was working fine, then E2 was dropping subs and E3 is working fine. I haven't had such issues for more than a year since I'm using apple TV. Shame that app quality is getting worse and worse, working slower on a newest 10k usd TV after each update. If it's not going to be fixed soon I'm canceling my subscription.

I am using ROKU to access AppleTV. It is wired thru an Onkyo receiver with Dolby Atmos speakers then connected out via HDMI to an LG OLED TV. The problem I am experiencing occurs only when AppleTV is chosen. It doesn't occur always, but enough to be really annoying. For example: watching "SEVERENCE" Episode 5...approximately every 15 seconds the sound stops for 1 or 2 seconds, during which the Dolby Atmos logo appears in the upper right-hand corner of the TV picture. Then it vanishes and another 15 or 20 seconds later the same thing occurs again. This problem went on over and over for the whole show.

Yes, using a Roku Streambar here and the subtitle situation is terrible.

The title card at the beginning of each episode of Pachinko makes a big flex about the program being produced in the original Korean and Japanese (which isn't even accurate as the novel on which it was based was originally written primarily in English, while the setting was Korea and Japan), and it instructs the viewer to pause and turn on subtitles or voiceover dubbing. I'm NOT going to use the dub, seriously. What a joke. But the subtitles keep dropping out entirely, or sometimes they're on some kind of stutter delay and several lines show up for a split second before disappearing. And the subtitles are well done, when they work. The Korean is supposed to be in Yellow (shows up in white most of the time it does show up, which isn't all of the time) and the Japanese is in Blue, but shows up even less frequently than the Korean subs for some reason. The parts spoken in English are supposed to be in White and they are but are sometimes prefaced with "in English" (not always). So basically there's the big flex of a factually iffy proclamation about using original languages and touts subtitles that are basically worthless. Native languages and subtitles are supposed to contributed to an immersive viewing experience. Having to pause and fiddle with settings, exit the app and restart continuously throughout the run of every episode is the opposite of immersive. I want to support multicultural content, and this bug is really ruining it. What is the point of pushing multilingual content onto the public if so much of the public isn't able to just sit back and enjoy it.

BTW this was also my experience watching Academy Award-winning Best Picture CODA. So many of the lines of ASL dialogue were missed because of this subtitle bug. please don't tell me I should rewind a few seconds every time this happens, or to restart or exit and enter, pause and turn off and on the subs. It happens a LOT. And it's pretty embarrassing if that is the "fix". And it is disrespectful to the cultures and languages your service is claiming to represent.
