I just got the new AirPods 3 and a very high pitched ringing/rattling noise comes out of the right AirPod only when no sound is playing.
Is that normal?
Would this be a software bug or could it be hardware related?
I only have them connected to my iPhone 11 if that helps.

Same issue here. When not connected to any devices, connected to an iPhone 13 pro, or connected to a MacBook Pro I experience this high pitched crackling sound in the right bud.
The noise stops as soon as music is playing or I’m on a call.

When my music stops or when i change tracks a high pitch/screeching sound comes out of right airpod 3. Only connected with my iphone 13pro max.
Have the same issue: high frequency and randomly starts "flickering" the sound on and off. Hope it's just software
Would it have cost money for the servicing?
Same issue here, hopefully they can fix with software/firmware. I'm planning to visit the Genius Bar to see what they say and will update here.

Using it for several days, and experiencing exactly the same. I am starting to doubt that a software update will fix it since is only in one ear, the right one, as you say. Thinking on return.
I have the same issue on the right pod.
This is exactly why i don’t want to get a 3rd replacement as i keep saying this is clearly an issue with the product that Apple needs to address.
I've see a lady on youtube do an airpods3 review and she had the same. She did end up taking them back and getting replacements. The replacements didnt have the feeedback as the first ones.

Same thing here - high pitched intermittent noise comes out of the right ear when nothing is playing. Hopefully Apple can fix as I really like the AirPods otherwise
Going to return my 2nd pair on Sunday so will definitely be addressing the issue in-store with someone.
