Monterey screensaver not working

How do I get Monterey screensaver to show the mat-geo photos.
MacBook Air
I had the issue where I had the screensaver checked, activating after 10 minutes of non-use. Despite my screensaver choice, I had the warning triangle with the exclamation point and my screensaver did not kick in.
I went into Preferences/Energy Saver and saw that I had set the display to turn off after 5 minutes. When I changed this to a timeframe longer than 10 minutes, My screensaver options were once again available.
So, it appears your screensaver activation time cannot be longer than your monitor shut-off time (at least for me).
I updated to Monterey yesterday and I am having the same issues with the screen savers not working ... only the clock shows up in a big black space... also I no longer have any of the options source options from apple that were previously available, only folders from my hard disc... seems like some libraries are displaced...
I spoke with Apple Support yesterday ( props to the very patient Lloyd in Michigan) and he spent a lot of time trying to work through the photo -scrolling -screen saver problem.
it is DEFINITELY an Apple issue, not a user error and those of us affected have to wait for the techies to come through with a fix and an update for Monterey.
Having the same issue. I upgraded my Intel iMac 27" 2019 to Monterey from Big Sur yesterday so it would have the same OS as my new MacBook M1 Pro (which shipped with Monterey but needed to update to version 12.01).
I am able to see my photo library/folder structure and select it as a source for the Photo Wall screen saver but when I preview or wait the allotted time for screen saver to start, I just get a completely black screen. As others have noted all screen saver options past "Monterey" seem to be working just fine. I do not have this issue selecting and displaying photo library screen savers on my MacBook M1 Pro.
ADDITIONALLY...I have about 148,000 pictures and videos in my system Photo Library. After upgrading to Monterey, it insisted on "restoring" all those photos from iCloud even though I never changed the preference to "Download Originals to this Mac." I never recall previously having to restore/re-download all my pictures just from updating the operating system. This is a huge PITA given the size of my photo library and took around 18 hours (thankfully I have a fast internet connection!)
Really hope they get both bugs fixed soon because I do not want to go through this again with the next OS update.
After upgrading to macOS 12.0.1 my screen saver using my photo library stopped working.
See dialabrain's response.
I use a similar process but pick Photo library (from Photos app) and it works. Not sure why so many users have an issue.
Follow up to above... seems like the screen savers starting down with MONTEREY and below (in the options window) do work, but any of the options above that linked to photos are NOT working... even when trying to find the photos in the library/folder you link up, it try's loading the photos, but then seems not to be able to link up... and goes into black screen w/ clock ...
I have an M1 MacBook Pro and the screen saver will not turn on. When I check "Show screen after" no matter what time interval I select, it does not come on. Also there is a yellow warning triangle with "!" in it, but there is no information provided as to the nature of the warning or how to address the problem.
I can't believe we're going backwards. It's like Monterey is a downgrade. I had to upgrade so Notes works with other devices, and now so many things do not work, including the screensaver. So disappointed. So disappointed.
I can't fix anything. I'm an end user like yourself. It's been reported to Apple numerous times so I'm sure they are aware of it. Patience is a virtue and we'll just have to wait until a fix is released by Apple via system update. It's a bug so it will get fixed.
I did a post as a response but I'll say it all again:
Why does this exist on imac's only??? So I read it's all good on macbook pro's.
Hope this fixed soon so we can enjoy watching all our selected photos as a screensaver again,
Ned
I have just received and set-up my new Mac.
Everything is great except the screensaver scrolling my photos does not work.
I see others posting about the same issue but that was a couple of weeks ago and so far , I have not seen a solution or fix or update?
Any updates on and update??
Works okay on:
Macbook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020)
Processor: Apple M1
Memory: 16 GB
Graphics: Built-in Retina LCD, 2560x1600 Retina
Software: MacOs Monterey 12.0.1
Does not work on:
iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5 inch, 2017)
Processor: 3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i5
Memory: 8GB 2400 MHz DDR4
Graphics: Radeon Pro 560 4 GB
Software: MacOs Monterey 12.0.1
I also know the steps and followed them. This is a bug - no matter what source I choose it does not render the picture correctly if at all. Clicking on "preview", it renders a different picture to what is displayed as sample that too with dark overlay. Please provide a fix as soon as you can. Thanks
MacOS Monterey has newly been released and there are still bugs Apple need to spot and fix. That is why SharePlay and Universal control aren’t available yet. They will probably fix this bug sometime soon (hopefully).
