How to Avoid Accidental Back-to-Back Calls on iPhone 13 Pro Max

Since my new iphone 13 pro max (or maybe ios15?): when I hang up my call, i start immediately calling someone else, due to the fact the calling screen goes away so extremely fast if the other one on the phone is hanging up earlier: I press hang up, but the screen goes away so fast if the other one is faster, that I press calling the one in my list that was behind the "end phonecall button".

I didn't have this before, now I call 3 people a day by accident. Anyone else the same issue?

Same here on iPhone 12 pro on iOS 15.

This is a major flaw in a core function of this device.

It is unsafe to use the red button to hang up a call.

Once I called my boss by accident at 11:30 PM, because unfortunately he was the entry under the red button at this moment.

OMG

Please Apple, do something! Your product should not lead to such shameful moments.

I wrote a product feedback suggestion to Apple two months ago, but nothing happended since then.

Hello Everyone,

It seems I'm not the only one with this problem, I found a solution that so far has worked for me, I disabled the "Prevent Lock to End Call" (you can find this in Settings-Accesibility-Touch-Prevent Lock to End Call") and now, instead of hanging up the phone call from the red button on the screen, I just hang up using the "Lock" button.

I hope this works for you guys :)

I agree, huge...huge oversight and terrible flaw in the core function!!!!! So irritating, I am constantly having to text clients and vendors multiple times a day, saying please disregard missed call. This is truly ridiculous and bad for any professional or business owner like myself. Come on Apple, you can do better, your making me miss my Samsung... in many ways. I have the 14 pro max and have been very disappointed. The gamble of hitting the end button multiple times a day in fear of making an accidental call is so irritating. I'm truly considering losing money to get rid of this POS and go back to Android...which doesn't have this problem. Cant believe you guys haven't addressed this yet, hundreds of people posting about this here and on other social platforms. I am in awe of inability or refusal to fix this. Shame!!!

While I may have chosen a different adjective if the comment had been mine; I can see that some may think this is asinine because why would there be a nice red end button for your use if the solution is "don't use it"? If having an intuitive interface is still a goal of Apple, this solution does not fit.

"I don't find this intuative" is a vastly different sentiment than "That's just extremely stupid".

No interface is going to seem intuative to everyone.

My last workaround is worth repeating:

1) Go to Settings > Siri & Search > Call Hang Up > Turn on

You can now say "Hey Siri, hang up" at the end of a call.

I've since added a second workaround to my iPhone:

2) Populate your Favorites page with 8 numbers, and make sure that the bottom 3 or 4 are numbers you don't care calling by mistake, such as to a store. That way, when you hit one of the favorites instead of the hang up button, no harm is done.

Works for me until Apple adds back the short delay giving us a chance to hang up without dialing a favorite by mistake. I've notified Apple too, but, ya know...

In response to the suggestion for using the power button, it's hit or miss for me so I don't bother. I don't want to assume it worked then leave an open call in my pocket.

This is 2 viable solutions vs the debate and frustration in the thread. Hit the helpful button to bubble this to the top and help new people who come here with the same issue.

I have to wonder how you even ended up here. You must not have this problem if this is your solution for this issue. Most of us with this problem have likely had iPhones for way over a decade; so you try switching up the way you end calls, and let us know how that goes? We can also just not hit the button at all, for that matter. Seriously. 🙄

Same, except it’s been happening since I got the 13. I had a 10, and it was not an issue at all. Another problem I have is accidentally deleting texts I’ve kept for years and years. It’ll literally happen in my purse! (And yes, screen is locked with Face ID!) I cannot believe this problem started this long ago, and they haven’t even answered anyone…. Must just be a few of us that are unlucky, and have a glitch or something? I sure wish I knew!

The only fix I found that is effective is to go and increase your time needed to touch screen for the phone to register as an intended action. You can increase it to the very next available option and it makes a big difference but there are cons to this fix as all your inputs are changed to this new change which takes some time to get adjusted to but worth it to stop all the mistaken phone calls and returned calls from those u unintentional calls
