Final Cut Pro freezes constantly after every action

Hi!

MacOS Monterey 12.0.1

Final Cut Pro 10.6.1

Preferences cleared (CMD+OPT while starting FCP)

After doing anything in library, adding marker, adding clip on timeline, muting audio on clip, the Final Cut Pro freezes for 4-5 seconds.

I thought it's a bug on disk (because FCP saves every action that we made), so I moved footage and library to second external SSD, and the problem disapeared, but only for a while. After few hours, FPC freezes again on second disk.

It happens only when library is on external drive (Samsung T5 and Samsung T7).

I have a clean library, with one clip on timeline, without any effects and plugins applied.

It's happend on MacBook Pro 13 (2019) Intel, and also on iMac 27 5K (2019)

Looks like a virus or something?

The problem started on previously macOS Big Sur

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.6

Several things stand out from the report.

First of all - you have installed Chrome and its keystone daemons - these wreak havoc on professional applications like FCP.

See https://chromeisbad.com for how this happens and how to uninstall.

You will likely then have to reinstall FCP.

Also: you have a rotating hard drive that is more than 90% full. If this contains media that you are using, it will be an issue.

If it is not being used for editing, consider disconnecting it, and see how things go.

If it is, then this is probably a big cause for the slowdown. Hard drives are slow, and being virtually full severely impairs performance.

Gotcha, yeah I'll try to carve out time for a fresh install but -- my Mac Pro that works fine is based off that same migration path (and yes, it's LONG, going back to my very first iMac Special Edition DV from 2000!).

I did remove all the keystone Daemons but I didn't delete Final Cut Pro X and reinstall. Do I need to remove the FCP preference files as well?

Gotcha, tried that and the issue remains. My guess is this has something to do with not having a discrete graphics solution in this system and / or the T2 chip that the newer Intel Macs use for decoding / encoding H.264 & H.265 videos COMBINED with some weirdness that the 1.15+ firmware on the Hero 10 Black introduced. Final Cut Pro X is due for an update soon (10.6.2 is already being previewed my vloggers on YouTube) and I suspect that GoPro has a firmware in the pipeline. I'll wait for those as I have workarounds in the meantime.

I appreciate all the knowledge in this thread and the advice!

Just thought I would update this thread. I have tested the new Hero 10 1.40 firmware and the latest 12.3.1 Monterrey update and unfortunately, the issue still exists. I had a call with Apple this morning and provided them with a Camera Archive of my memory card from the GoPro so they can do some testing. I would suggest anyone here experiencing the issue do the same.

I do appreciate the advice given here but in my opinion, at this point we're beyond this being a simple install issue and downgrading the GoPro firmware to 1.10 isn't an option for me. My reluctance to doing any further troubleshooting here is that two people (myself and mariofruehwirt) are experiencing the exact same problem and the common denominators are the model of MacBook Pro we're using (2020 Intel) and the GoPro Hero 10. And yes, I could contact GoPro support but frankly, it would take me hours to get passed their frontline support, who are just used to handling, "I gnar'd too hard and my GoPro is broke, bruh!" calls. And I'm hoping Apple has some kind of contact with the GoPro engineering to streamline a solution. Though that could be wishful thinking! lol
