13 pro max camera freeze

I am on my 2nd new iPhone 13 Pro Max and I am experiencing the same problem on new phone. The IPhone camera app freezes and I have to turn the phone off. Totally unacceptable for my business use and cost of this phone. I took my first phone to the Apple store and it froze in the camera app for the technician. Because the phone was under warranty they suggested getting a new phone. Please advise on the on-going widespread technical flaw with the IPhone camera app.

I FINALLY have this resolved. A hardware diagnostic found that the "sensor" on the back of the camera was bad. I got a new phone. I'm guessing this is the issue with most of you on this forum as the symptoms are all the same. It was a giant pain getting a new phone but bring up the camera and it not freezing is like breathing again.

I'm also experiencing the same thing, And I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with my iphone.

I think there is something wrong with the sensor on the ultrawide camera, either software or hardware. The ultrawide camera will stop recording and freeze when the camera captures a different focus.

To try it, you just need to open the camera, video, set it to 0.5, and start recording while moving the iPhone to an object with a different lighting or focus, you can also set the focus on the iPhone screen, and the problem will occur.

I contacted apple support, and they have analyzed it from the software side and there are no problems. Since it's a mainstream iPhone, I haven't tried to give it to apple for hardware check. What about the other? is there any solution

I have iPhone 13 pro with the same problem: 0.5 camera is freezing with or without recording. I can catch this bug immediately on 1080p 60 fps. Sometimes on 1080p 30 fps. But I have't caught this bug on 4k 30\60 fps. So 0.5 camera 1080p 60 fps is completely unusable. I visited the Apple Store in showed this bug. They took my phone for warranty repairs. Later I received "repaired" phone, they replaced the camera module. But my iPhone is still experienced the same problem - 0.5 camera is freezing.

It's very sad that so expensive iPhone is glitching and Apple can't do nothing to fix this problem.

Hi Uncle_Bob_2,

My last visit to the Apple Store has resulted in an escalation to Apple to see if the update in May/June has somehow created this problem (the phone was definitely OK prior to then, as I did house viewing videos on almost a daily basis and never experienced this problem previously).

I manged to capture the issue, by videoing the phone videoing from another phone and have sent this footage through to Apple (I must admit explaining the issue resulted in some puzzled looks, so it was nice to have the evidence !).

My reflection is that it isn't the camera (I've had a new one fitted), it isn't the phone (I had a replacement handset and it did the same) and it isn't anything previously stored on the phone and restored (I performed two complete manual deletions and had to restore everything manually, to save restoring what might have been a bug from previously stored files, etc.).

I'd stated in a previous post that I felt that this was a bigger problem because ordinarily people don't shoot video longer than 2 mins and I still stand by this.

So in summary, my view is that one of the updates has caused this and (fingers crossed) one of the future updates will fix this.

The gentleman that I last saw at the apple store has been excellent in both his advice and also keeping me updating on progress to date.

Regards,

Hello My dog is a dog,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We can understand the concern with this trouble you're having with the iPhone 13 camera, and we're happy to help. So that we can find the best path to a resolution, we'll need a little background info. First, can you tell us the iOS version you are using please? Go to Settings > General > About to locate that info. Do you experience this while using the front, rear, or both cameras? Does this happen using certain apps, the Camera app only, or any app that uses the camera? Get back to us with that info, and we can go from there.

We look forward to hearing back from you.

Have a great day!

Finally ! I'm not going mad ! It isn't just me !

Ordinarily, I don't post stuff publicly, but in this particular instance I feel it entirely appropriate.

My iPhone 13 Pro Max freezes whilst videoing (I video houses for a job so it's pretty frustrating !). I have been into Apple on FOUR occasions (the first visit to do a manual deletion, the second visit to perform a manual deletion in store, the third visit to have a new camera installed and then the fourth visit a replacement handset).

So, I thought "all sorted".

I have just come away from a house viewing this afternoon and guess what ? The brand new phone has just done exactly the same thing !

This surely must be a known problem and if not, needs some more thorough investigation ?

Wish me luck with my fifth visit !

Regards,

I just did a factory reset without putting anything back from my previous settings of my iPhone. And the problem is immediately back, the camera app crashed after 2 minutes of recording in wide angle x0.5. I was also thinking of using an other camera app, so I reinstalled the DJI Memo app, BUT that app also crashes when using the wide-angle camera lens after 2m40s...

My iPhone 13 Pro Max sticks and freezes when I try to go back and edit photos in the camera app. Can’t crop, and sometimes will not even let me get back into photos. Also. Screen has developed a bit of a flicker when shifting from app to app.

I am a professional photographer/ artist using the iPhone for work, iPhone photography. This is totally unacceptable for the amount of money I paid for this phone. Also, issues with the macro. I turned off the auto macro in settings because there was a delay while the lenses switched and I missed important bird shots. They were blurry.

I am operating in 15.1.1. Is this latest update? I have not received the automatic notice that there is another.

Should I take my phone to the Apple Store?

PS: Concerned. AT&T salesperson talked me into AT&T service warranty. Hard sales job. Will I be covered if something defective with the phone?

Really????? Me toooooo. I am soooooo infuriated… crappy resolution. Takes a split second longer to focus. I get some lucky shots, when last year and year before my 10x & 12 pro were better.

Starting a photography biz. I shoot at the beach with this phone. my husband has heard me complain everyday when I come back.

besides not capturing clearly a lot of the time, it will not let me crop most of the time, freezes. And then I can’t even swipe between photos!

if this is the case I am going to contact Apple. I don’t want the same phone. I want them to give me and all of us our money back OR the new 14 coming out this fall. Meantime loan us a 12 Pro back so we can conduct out business.

I am also an artist. And my 12 pro took much better studio shots for portfolio….

ugh.

My 13 is 2 weeks old, running 15.3.1 and this issue is beyond frustrating.

I have had to restart the phone every time to get the camera to unlock. The front camera doesn’t seem to have an issue.

When I’m trying to video or take a picture of a once a year swim event that lasts 1 minute, having to restart is not a resolution.

When I go to settings/about it says the camera has “unknown parts”….It was purchased at the Apple Store.
