iOS 15.2 Battery Drain
Is anyone experiencing battery drain since updating to iOS 15.2? If so, any tips for what to do about it? I just updated this morning. Thanks!

As posted in the 15.1 battery drain thread, some of the fixes that I found might help with 15.2 as well. I'm talking about drain that persists for more than the 1-3 days after an update while Spotlight is indexing. I had my iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPad Mini 6 BOTH draining enough to run dry in 20 hours of standby, and fixed it completely, so I'm still on 15.1 with no issues..
1) Turn off Apple News Widget on your Home Screen if you have it configured. I had seen that Apple News was using a lot of battery in "Settings > Battery" and I wasn't using it. Turning off background app refresh made no difference in battery use and drain in the background. Then I discovered the widget hiding on the screen to the left of the Home Screen that has my app icons, and turned it off. That reduced my drain from 5-7% per hour to only 3-5% per hour. I also turned off most of the other widgets except Calendar, Reminders, and Battery level for bluetooth accessories (watch, and AirPods).
2) I had my iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPad Mini 6 paired with my iMac and MacBook 16", and had "show this iPad/iPhone when connected with WiFi" turned on. I "Reset Network Settings" which broke this pairing, and COMPLETELY solved my battery drain issue. I was later able to plug my devices back into my iMac and pair/Trust them, but I made sure to turn OFF "show this iPad/iPhone when connected with WiFi" when I Trusted them, and the drain has not come back.
Apparently the WiFi network connection between iDevice and Macintosh computer maybe has the iDevice phoning home continuously in 15.1, even when you are not on the home, and this system resource is still draining the battery regardless of low power mode or not. But my best guess is that when the iDevice is NOT looking out for the computer constantly, with "show this device on wifi", then the drain goes away completely FOR ME. This might not be your problem.
Me too. Siri has been at the top of my battery usage list. Did turning off Hey Siri solve this completely for you?

Does your 7 Plus still have its original battery?
And what's the Maximum Capacity % here?...

A few problems here
The annoying thing was it was fine, lasted forever before 15 and now it is useless. Perhaps it is time to get the battery upgraded but personally still feel that 15.2 is the real killer. Will take it to my local Apple store and see if it can be fixed, especially annoying as I still have many months to go with a contract.
15.2 ruined my iPhone 8. Prior to this update, battery health was 93% and it lasted a full day of moderate use. Right after the update, it would drop from 100% charge down to 40% in a few hours. From there it dropped as low as 11% within a few more hours. Battery page showed activity in the middle of the night with screen off, so I'm guessing that was the indexing. But even after that was done, everything about the battery was weird. The percent would drop to low 40s, then I'd plug it in and it would instantly shoot up to low 90s, then drop to 80s as soon as it was unplugged. Health remained at 93%. Guessing that the update was corrupt in some way, I erased the phone and restored from scratch. Everything improved for about half a day, then it was back to the 15.2 battery drain. So I bought a new SE 2020 Gen 2.
One possible theory: my iPhone 8 never indicated a firmware update as part of the 15.2 update. But my brand new SE 2020, which came with 15.1, did the firmware update during 15.2 installation via iTunes. And it is working properly with 15.2.
This is crazy they are forcing updates while so many problems with SW stability are reported for iOS, macOS, etc.
Even though problem concerns certain release, i think that problem has something to do with iCloud. Sort of: iPhone with 15.2 release is trying to synchronize data to iCloud and the process fails at some point.
Connection to iCloud account is quite important (Find my, etc.) but if you can leave without it for some time (and are not afraid of loosing some data accidentally) you could log out from iCloud account and see what happens. Just an idea. Power consumption dropped noticeably when I logged out of iCloud. but still was much above expectations. I also tried different solution with a bit better results, but cannot provide details due to terms of use of this forum.
faizal73 reported problem with draining battery after upgrade, not after battery replacement. This advice in this context makes as much sense as e.g. suggesting using screen protector. Both genuine screen protector and battery are good choice (albeit quite expensive sometimes), but has nothing to do with this bug.
fiazal73 will spend quite a lot of money and after that destroy expensive battery fast due to bug in 15.2. Bad idea. Should I plan to replace battery, I would wait till problem is over.
That's also the case of my friend who replaced (yes, in genuine Apple) battery in November and now is "destroying" it fast due to a bug (charging 2 times a day instead of once 2 days).
Omg! That graph is atrocious and outrageous 🤣. When my iphone 7 updated from iOS 14.7 to 14.8 it was bad, but not as bad as yours.
it improved after a few full discharge and recharge cycles.
iOS 15 brought back the glorious drain😎
Ok - iPhone 6s, I literally changed out the battery 48hours ago, at an Apple authorized location. This also prompted a iOS scan & then did the download latest version 15.3.1
I have been hashing out my iPhone for over 24hr, looking for the leaks, that are draining things
help - can some one roll back the iOS?
side note is that in settings I keep getting this message listed above the settings features.( about being prepared for data transfer to new iPhone)
i have no new phone, & those background messges are under apps that have been closed & deleted & signed out of ie Apple App Store
I'll just post my experience as well. I have an iPhone 7 with a recently replaced battery showing 92% capacity. Since the 15.1 update, I've had draining issues but only with specific applications. Safari is currently the worst offender - I often get a 20-40% drain with 20 minutes of usage or less and it makes the phone run hot. Apple News is a close second with similar drain on the battery. Podcasts are not quite as bad, but still pretty poor considering I need a recharge after 2 hrs of listening. I've turned off notifications, background updates, location services, and the whole host of usual suggestions to no avail. The drain appears to be the same via WiFi or cellular signal. It's the point where I'm charging my phone 3 times a day.
Interestingly, I get no such drain with certain applications. For example, I can stream an hour via AppleTV+ with less than 5% battery change. That makes no sense - Podcasts (audio only) with the screen off will drain 40-50% of my battery in an hour. I can browse on the eBay app with no issue, and something like the Hoopla app for reading books has a similar small affect on the battery. So neither data usage or screen usage seem to be the main culprit.
I've factory reset the phone to no avail. Just to be sure I haven't restored the backup, and I have all heavy-usage iCloud functions off (photo syncing, backup, etc).
I see the suggestion to submit to the issue to Apple, which I will do.
I opened a ticket with Apple Support, and they're monitoring my phone as we speak. I highly recommend you do the same so Apple is aware that this could be a bigger issue.
iPhone 12 Pro. I updated 5 days ago and now go from 95% to 3% overnight with no use. Apple News widget is removed. This is worse day to day, not better. I’m going to try resetting Network connections before i try anything else. System is no longer usable for me, but another iPhone X in the house seems to be ok.
