My new iPhone 13 breaks up on calls when I’m on speaker… it happens when the case is on… not when the case is off… it is me breaking up to the other person . I have switched out case 3x … can’t find one that doesn’t cause this.

When iPhone 13 first came out, a lot of people on Verizon were having dropped calls on their new phones. This wasn't happening to people on AT&T for example. You should definitely reach out to Verizon. When you go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data - what are the phones set to? The recommended setting would be 5G Auto.

Apple is not going to help us, so I found an email address for tips at 9to5Mac. It’s “tips@9to5mac.com”.

“@9to5mac I have a new iPhone 13 Pro, I can’t make or receive a phone call without it breaking up after a few minutes. Not on my end, on the other, they tell me they can’t hear me. I mainly use the speaker phone, but when I’ve switched to my ear because they can’t understand me, it works for a few minutes, then the person I called tells me it’s breaking up again.

Please look at the Apple discussion boards, it’s all providers, it’s with excellent coverage, etc. Those who’ve taken it to the Genius Bar get no help. I think it must be certain lots because I’m sure you would have heard about it if was ALL iPhone 13’s, I also suspect it’s connected to the missing noise cancellation feature.

So I’m back to my iPhone 8, my 13 is an expensive brick.

Please check this out.

Thank you,

P Johnson”

They also have a Twitter account but I thought I’d try email first.

And yes, I moved my SIM card back to my iPhone 8, when I make phone calls I need people to hear me. I’m so frustrated.

I could have written this exact post myself. You said it perfectly. I feel like everyone is acting like they have never heard anything about it. I told both Apple support people I talked to about all of these threads, also sent it in the Apple Support text message, and found a Forbes article about this exact issue. Pretty sure I’m going to switch it out for an IPhone 12. I told both support people that the 13 doesn’t have “phone noise cancellation” in settings and they were shocked. I have told everyone trying to get a new phone to avoid the 13.

My IPhone 13pro (I’ve had 2 now) both have done the exact same thing phone calls are garbled people say I sound like I’m underwater. I have tried speakerphone AirPods case on case off nothing works same issue happens. I have gone to the Apple store many times no results I have been on the phone with Apple Care no results. Actually they really just want to get rid of you now since they cannot or seem to not be able to solve the problem it’s extremely frustrating I have spent over $4000 now on phones and I can’t use them for a conversation at all

I have this same problem and like so many, I am super frustrated with the Iphone experience. We switched to IPhone becuase my wife wanted to face time with her sisters, what a mistake we made. A first the IPhone 13 Pro was great and her 13 was good as well then all of sudden they both start acting up with garbled phone calls and in and out. We could hear the person we called fine but they could no hear us. I have called Apple several times, reset run dianostics and took in to a store to be checked and they keep saying the phone is ok. The carrier replaced the sim cards and it does not work. Did a factory reset, this did not help. IMO I think many of the IPhone 13 series have a real problem. The next step for me is to ask for the phones to be replaced. If that does not work I am switching back to Samsung. I have to have a reliable phone and presently the IPhones we have are not reliable.

I got the 13Pro in January and have had mumbling, muffled and dropped calls. With it without AirPods, AurPodsPro, speaker, Bluetooth in car and regular plug in headphones. Verizon has sent me a new phone. Apple ran a diagnostics and said it was fine and gave me a new SIM card. Still happening. I’m glad to know I’m not alone in this venture. But this is frustrating as ****. I talk on the phone all the time!

I did the exact same thing

got a new sim card

problem still exists

got another iPhone 13pro - still have same problem

now on two iPhone 13 pro - calls break up- no one apple will acknowledge that this is a problem-which at this point I find it hard to believe and I’m very upset.

I have over $2,000 now trying to figure this out and no one will acknowledge it!!!!

ugh MY PHONE CALLS BREAK UP DAILY!

I’m so glad I found this thread, I thought it was just me. !! I bought my iPhone 13 pro in April and I despise it. I usually text, there’s just one person that I call occasionally so it took awhile for me to realize what was happening. My phone would cut out when I was talking to her, but we thought it might be location (even though I’m in a populated area with lots of bars) so I’ve been driving around and parking places to call her! So it would work, which made me think it was the location, and then it was garbled again. One time I thought I had made it work by switching from speaker to my ear, and then it started cutting out again! Part of my delay in realizing the issue is that she has an older phone, so I didn’t know whether it was HER phone that might be the problem. I finally called a couple of other people today, and it started cutting out again! So I went to an authorized Apple place (not the Genius Bar) and the guy had never heard of this issue and his only suggestion was to reset the whole phone from scratch, that maybe this was a glitch when it was set up. Obviously, reading all of these it’s not. Oh, and I have an Otterbox, that has a cutout for the lenses so nothing is being covered.

I’m just wondering if this is a bad lot, I can’t imagine more people not ******** about it if it was all iPhone 13 pro’s. For those of you near a Genius Bar, I’m assuming they try making calls with it? How can they deny the issue?

I’m furious, I can’t believe they’re not doing anything about this. I would just try to sell the **** thing at a loss, but it doesn’t seem ethical.

After reading this thread, I’m just going back to my old iPhone 8, I can’t deal with the stress of this nonsense.

i bought the **** warranty on it through T-mobile, but I’m assuming since they don’t even admit this is a problem, they’re not going to do anything about it so I’ll be canceling that.

I contacted Apple, they said bring in your phone to the store & they’ll send it back for repair (are they saying they know there’s a fault?) or send it back myself….so what do I do for a phone during that time? I have customers details stored, lots of work stuff that I can’t transfer easily if at all. Very disappointed in the phone & with Apple’s seeming lack of interest

I’m currently using my iPhone 8 because I can’t deal with this. Can you borrow an old phone? And what store, was it a retailer? I bought mine from T-Mobile, I’ve been in a number of times and they keep fooling with with the settings (WiFi calling etc) and that’s before I found this thread so I thought it was my fault.

I’m so curious if they actually do anything. There are other threads where one person took their phone and a bunch of printed out complaint to the Genius Bar and they just kind of shrugged them off.

I bought a 13 Pro Max in Dec 2021; in March Apple had to swap it out for a brand new iphone due to a known bad board. Within the last couple of months, this new lphone from March is giving me issues… dropped calls, breaking up, garble sound. People say I’m breaking up, they can’t hear me, phone goes in and out. Took the phone to a Certified Apple Repair store, and diagnostic check came back with no issues! It’s frustrating to have this issue with a phone that is supposed to be so good!! I don’t know what to do? Sometimes the calls are better after I take it off of speaker phone, sometimes that doesn’t even help. It’s very frustrating!
