Gmail Badge notifications

I tried doing this as you suggested and sent 2 emails from my work email to my Gmail account and those 2 emails worked just fine and showed the badge and played the notification sound as it should have. I'll keep an eye on it and hopefully it will continue to work as it should.

Thanks for posting this and we are all hopeful that it will become a permanent fix.

tried it on my iphone, my ipad, my wifes iphone and send the message to my brother who has the same problem on his phone - didnt work for all of us.

After doing the steps above, I sent 2 emails immediately and it worked as it should. Got another audible notification from another email and it worked as it should. Sadly, the next 2 emails that came in gave me the audible notification but the badges were not there anymore so I don't think it is a permanent fix.

This is STILL clearly an issue after looking through the comments below…just happened to me and it’s extremely frustrating. I am missing work emails now because I do t know that they’re there. Please fix!!!

I don't think that is correct. The app is refreshing in the background because I get audible notifications when new Gmail arrives but may or may not get the badge notification. Usually do not get the badge notification. I believe this has more to do with the Google vs Apple struggle that continues to be a problem for the end users.

I agree the app must be updating to acknowledge new emails with banners and sounds. But it appears, again in my situation, that the new emails aren’t registering within the app until the app goes to main focus. Then the new emails appear in the inbox as unread, as do the badge updates on the app icon to reflect their arrival.

Not helpful since the badge only updates once you have already have gmail back up on the screen. So yes there is something automatically updating but the badges seem disconnected from the process.

1. Email arrives via banner/sound. no badge appears.
2. Make gmail app main focus, new email arrives.
3. Go back to home, gmail icon shows with unread badge count.

The banner & sound is pushed, but badge & email only populates when the gmail app is opened.

also can only use gmail tone for notifications, located within the app settings, & they’re 1/2 as loud as the rest of the phone. My standard & purchased tones cannot be used.

my guess is there are conflicts in the last few updates, with iPhone focus & gmail trying to overcomplicate email by adding dozens of unnecessary features & settings. Native iPhone mail app is what I’ll be phasing into as it seems more user friendly. Gmails Developer responses of “uninstall & reinstall the app” is of no resolution & possibly overrides some phone settings. Typical of google.

Just posting to add another person to this list of people experiencing issues. It's been over a month now and I'm up-to-date with everything and tried all the suggestions in this thread, as well as reporting the issue to Google via the app feedback.

Weirdly, I've just looked at the Background App Refresh and whilst it's on (green) the text and toggle are both semi-transparent, suggesting there's a difference between them and the other text/toggles that are on.

Same issue as mentioned by the others. I have tried all of the fixes as well but nothing works. I have even tried leaving my mail app open on my phone, but the badges still don’t update. Please fix. Super tired of dealing with this issue. It’s been too long now.

I’m having the same problem I’m not getting any badges or notifications for my Gmail, uninstalled the app reinstalled the app, updated all the software nothing worked at all. This is on Apple‘s hand they have some bugs that need to be fixed and I hope they take care of it quickly as I use this account for work

That’s the release date, doesn’t mean that’s the day I updated my software. As I said before after I updated the software I started having a problem. We could do this all day long and go back-and-forth it still doesn’t resolve any issues.

But it has absolutely something to do with Apple ;) Take the time to understand that there is a conflict somewhere in the settings or push notifications of iOS in Gmail. I’ve asked android users, and they do not have this problem, which makes this and exclusive Apple/ Gmail compatibility problem.

I couldn’t wait for a solution, so I got used with checking manually every 30 minutes or so. But overall there seems to be an improvement as well, now it’s more often when badge notifications work than when they don’t.

Same for me and my wife. Neither of us getting the badge icon with new emails.

However this is surely a Gmail issue no? We’ve both always had issues with the Gmail app notifications (no alerts until you actually open the app) and this isn’t the first time we’ve had to reinstall Gmail.

Glad to see we’re not the only ones.
