Gmail Badge notifications

My iPhone too stopped displaying badges the last time I updated it (Feb2022). Isn’t it nice how when you tell tech support that you’ve already done everything logical, like you have, that they just can’t admit it’s something they broke and will be addressed in the next update. No instead it’s the app builders fault or the most ridiculous suggestion, turn on notifications for all apps. They’re useless.

ill get the notification I got. New email but once that goes away there is no New badge number. I’ll see the notification in Lock Screen unlock phone and it won’t show a badge number saying I got a new email. If phones unlocked and on Home Screen it some times will show it if get a new email then but not all the time. This just started happening recently..glad I’m not the only one.

Same problem for me as well although at some point over the weekend, there were badges showing in my Gmail app but once I checked the email and cleared the badges, they haven't shown back up since. I just updated to IOS 15.4 and that hasn't seemed to fix the problem either. Not sure at this point if it is a Gmail app issue or Iphone/IOS issue.

At this point I think it’s gmail app, bc like you said some times you will see the badges and then some times you don’t. I feel like if your playing on your phone and you get a new email you will see the badge, but if it’s locked and you get a new email when you go to unlock your phone it doesn’t show a badge number.

Just thought I'd add to the growing list of people posting about this. The problem started happening for me today, too. I've removed email accounts, added them back. That did not work. I've reinstalled the app. That did not work. I've done toggling of the badge setting. That did not work. I see no point in going through a factory reset, since others have tried it to no avail. I hope this gets fixed ASAP.

Hi everyone. Let me add to that list. As of today, the Gmail app badges also stopped working for me. Without any reason, without me doing anything. I had updated iOS a couple of days ago and it worked perfectly normal over the last days, so I'm pretty sure it's not the new iOS to blame, but the Gmail app itself. Have tried everything: logged out/in, removed/reinstalled the app, toggled the badge notification button, nothing works. But if I open the app, it's instantly loading new emails. If I don't open them and exit the app, then the badge will be displayed. So it's very clear an issue with the Gmail app.

Same here for about 2 weeks now. I will see the email was received on my locked screen, but then there are no badges indicating I have a new gmail. This is especially annoying when there is an item I need to reply to that is received when I am busy or asleep and I do not have the badge that acts as my mental reminder. I will leave things unread to track that I need to reply to an item and the badge being gone has ruined my process.

Mine has been hit or miss showing the badge notification. Mostly a MISS! For some reason this morning it has been showing up. I haven't made any changes, so I have no clue why it is working today. I don't expect it to keep working for long.

I'm having the same experience for two days. Works for a limited time, then it doesn't, then it works again. Completely unreliable and with a very negative impact on my work.

If they don't fix it, I will have to find an alternative. Sending customers to ask the community for answers is a bad joke in this case, as it's clearly an issue with the app itself.

If I knew a different app I would use it, I hate the mail app. But yes telling us to ask the community when lots of people are saying the same issue is a joke, but it’s all over there app in the feed back, just go to it and change it to recent ones and you will see there reply’s it’s a joke

Lol ya the devs reply’s are to go to the community and ask for help…ummm the whole community is having the same issue so how is that helping lol. Or they tell you to send the issue to there team…ummmm why can they do that themselves lol.

Same here, I have tried to put Gmail on the Apple Mail app but it doesn't seem to work properly there either which is frustrating. I only use Gmail because it pushes to the phone. I think it is something to do with iOS 15.4 update because that is when it first happened for me.

Same problem here. since the last IOS update no more badges for me. tried everyting there was to try: removing the account from the app, removing the app. restarting the phone, resetting the phone (took me 2 hours to restore everything but didn't help at all. background refresh has nothing to do with it. even deleted all the coockies from browsers: no difference.

Great minds…this morning I was also thinking “hmmm, iPad?”. I am currently attempting to update my iPad to the 15.4 (and I updated my gmail in there to the newest version). Fingers crossed and thank you for providing this because I didn’t know if this attempt would be in vain, but it sounds like it worked for you.

yeah, I had a similar issue with HBOMAX and captions showing on my AppleTV constantly and had the settings to no captions in the AppleTV and HBOMAX settings, but then I went to my phone and ipad and there was an update on all 3 that hadnt completed and that fixed the captions part of the settings so after wrecking my brain as to what the heck is going on it dawned on me - check my ipad too! fingers crossed it helps!
