Mail App keeps freezing

I told folks what worked for me but no one wanted to do it. The last 2 updates did nothing for the email problem.

i went to the Apple store. She looked at the corrupt files and said we need to do a reset. So that’s what the Apple store did. Did a factory reset WITHOUT iCloud backup. It worked and I have not had the problem since. She also showed me a way to re-download all apps I had which actually showed all the apps I ever downloaded

Delete the Mail App. Then, go to the App Store, search for the App, and re-download it: Download apps and games on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support.

You may need to then Add an email account to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.

Good news, I installed the just released iOS 15.6 update late last night and it seemed to fix this problem. Since installing the new update, I have not had the problem. I recommend doing this update to all who are having this problem. I hope it works for all of you as it did for me. Thank you.

So I scheduled an appointment with the Apple store. I explained that the mail app has not been working correctly since before 15.3.1. She did a quick diagnostic and saw corrupt files. Here is the fix.

1. Set up phone as if it is new. Do not set it up as back up from the iCloud.
2. the mail app is fixed

The problem for me was when I start mail app it gets frozen with a white screen and after few seconds it closes itself. If you long press the mail icon in the main screen and then select search, the mail search opens normally. Since then, the mail app is working perfectly. Hope it helps.

Since I updated to 15.6 the problem corrected and has not come back.

The solution at the time was very acceptable to me. You either keep having the issue or not. You can continue to wait on Apple who is slow to recognize or fix problems or just keep having the issue. My phone mail works 100% without any issues after I did the reset without iCloud back up.

A factory reset seems like a nuclear option... It's not a choice we should be forced to make. Apple should fix this. It's crazy that they can't or won't. In the meantime, I've just switched to the Spark Mail app. It's not perfect, but it's highly customizable and so I was able to put together something I could live with... and most importantly, it's not crazy buggy like the apple mail app.

I am having the exact same issue and tried the same suggested fixes. It worked for a day after i deleted app and then re-installed. I hope Apple is aware of this and fixes in the next release. This happens on my ipad. This i use my iphone as backup when my ipad mail locks up. So so frustrating.

someone above suggested using a different mail application. That may be the solution if this is not fixed soon.

I found the Spark mail app to be an excellent replacement.

By “Deleting” your email account, won’t you be deleting all your saved emails and settings etc, as well??

I don’t really feel like sending all my save emails to another account such as gmail, only to retrieve them later. And Mail Settings, are always a Pain the Arse, having to re-enter them. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

There must be another way, like Apple getting the coding right the first time or using what they did in previous mail versions?

My email app freezes. I get the back button in the left hand top corner. It takes about a minute for it to unfreeze, then it is ok until I close it. It happens every time I open my mail. I have tried everything and nothing works. I need help please. Thank you

I’ve already called Apple tech regarding this email issue. The tech support person never heard of any complaints about it. He went into my phone remotely so I could show him exactly how it was freezing up. He gave me several things to try and all of the things he suggested I had already done like closing the app, rebooting, etc. He said I should wait for the next update. I asked him if he would speak to the next level tech support and get back to me but it never happened. I’m still having the problem and it’s very annoying. It’s constantly freezing. Please Apple do something about it.

Deleting and re-installing Mail app did not resolve issue.
