The badge app icon is gone on my mail app and when I go into the settings for mail app under notifications there is no switch anymore to turn the badge on or off.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. For an issue like this, let's try some basic steps first to get the Badges option back for you.
First, close the Settings app:"Double-click the Home button to show your most recently used apps. Swipe right or left to find the app that you want to close. Swipe up on the app's preview to close the app"
Next, Restart your iPhone.
"Press and hold the side button until the power-off slider appears.
Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo."
Open Settings again and see if the option to enable Badges appears. Restarting your iPhone often fixes issues like this.

I’m having the same issue. Updated software and paired my Apple Watch 4. Below is a screen shot, the option to edit badges is gone. I’ve restarted multiple times. Please advise.
Experiencing the same thing after getting an apple watch and updating iOS. Emails update but there is no number badge on the mail icon. Badge on/off setting is not present in settings.
Any other ideas how to make the badges work again?
The badge switch is missing from mail settings. The badge switch is on all the other apps. What’s going on?
Update: it finally reappeared today. I didn’t do anything to try and fix, it just started working in its own.
Mail App and badges are working again. Don’t know why.
When did this start working? I waited a few days before going back to 15.3.1.
And still broke in 15.5 (tested on another device so I can leave mine on 15.3.1)
For me it comes right back. And it's on many apps not just one.
Tried deleting and reinstalling. And it’s not just mail. It’s most of my apps.
restore phone without backup fixes issue but you have to rebuild everything
I had same issue today and I deleted the mail app and reinstalled and my badges are now working.
Same here. Only Lockscreen and Notification Center are availability.
can’t activate the Number badge
All I had to do was delete my email accounts from my phone and re-add them. Been perfect again ever since.
