Airpods Pro 2 not showing up in findmy

Hi,

I haven't been able to have my airpods pro 2 show up in findmy, both on my iphone and ipad.

I have reset the device multiple times, but it kept failing to show up there.

I'm able to use it on my iPad with no problem without reconnecting it, which I figured means that the device is registered under my apple ID.

Any tips on how to resolve this ?

Below are information about the iPhone and airpods:

iPhone XS Max

iPhone Model Name: iPhone Xs Max

iOS Version: 16.0.2 (20A380)

Airpods Pro 2

Model Number: A2618

Firmware Version: 5A377

Hardware Version: 1.0.0

By the way there were some odd behaviors with this airpods pro:

  • I had to press the button on the back of the case to connect this airpods pro to my iPhone prior to resetting the airpods pro. After resetting it, I was able to just press connect on the airpods pop-up on my iPhone and it connected immediately.
  • At one point it seems to show up under my wife's apple id account in findmy (even though this airpods pro 2 is brand new), but it wasnt' able to locate or play sound. I then removed the airpods pro 2 from my wife's account, reset the airpods pro 2, and reconnected it, and wasn't able to get it to show anywhere again, even on my wife's account
  • At one point it was also showing up with a different airpod name that belonged to my son, which I have removed from findmy, prior to connecting the airpod. Again, I removed it from findmy, reset the airpods, and reconnected. It still didn't show up.

So I returned my original set of AirPod Pro 2's after trying everything under the sun, and today received my new pair. Literally took 2 seconds to connect up and boom everything was working. I can now find the case, it makes a great sound and I can use the Iphone to direct me to where the case is. I have never been able to do any of this. So it looks like it was a hardware issue.

If you are having issues with your Find My and AirPod Pro 2s then I suggest you return them for a new set.

I’m having the same issue. The main reason why I bought the AirPod pros 2 is the built in AirTag now my AirPods is showing an error that setup isn’t complete and I chatted with Apple support the representative did all they could to help but I am still having an issue. I have an appointment with Genius on tomorrow November 11,2022. All this because I tried to update the newest firmware for the AirPods Pro 2 model only. It didn’t update but gave me an error message. I have reset my AirPods about 10 times and getting the same results. Also the enable charging sound toggle button is greyed in the setting. This all started on Tuesday. I’m so frustrated. Hopefully tomorrow I can get a new one.

Hello everyone,

I think I will reach out to Apple directly about this issue because this same problem has been happening on my new MacBook Air M2 chip (macOS Ventura 13.0.1) and with 2nd Generation AirPods Pro. I hope this is not a software issue, but it seems like there is something wrong based on how many people clicked on "Me too" confirming that they have been having this issue with their Apple AirPods Pro.

I hope this issue is resolved soon. I will hopefully post a new reply about this if I receive sufficient help from Apple.

Have a nice day everyone.

i'm on ios 16.1.1 on an iphone 13 pro max and my airpods pro 2 are on firmware 5B58 and case 51.11.1.

they rarely show up in find my (on iphone, mac ventura, beta.icloud.com etc.). often with a orange circle and a white exclamation mark that says the configuration is incomplete and i can't locate them. but most of the time they didn't show up in find my at all.

other weird behaviours i've observed:

find my app says i carry unknown airpods with me but these ar mine

iphone says the left earphone is an airpods pro 1 and its not compatible with the case

the trick to deactivate and reactivate find my on my iphone didn't solve the problem. i've reset the airpods multiple times, unlinked it form my apple id, reconnect etc. nothing helped.

the question is: is this a software or hardware defect?

I'm also having this issue still with latest iOS 16.2 and Macs all updated to 13.1. Had both AirPods (not the case) replaced at Apple Store, didn't help. Now I called in and they are offering to replace the Case but I can't get it engraved again which is frustrating, and I'm not even sure if replacing the case will help or not. Has anyone had their case replaced and it fixed the issue?

Just an update to this message:

I have been speaking to a senior engineer and executive relations for quite some time. We did some more tests and have finally figured out a workaround. The issue (for me anyway) lies with fast user switching. If I am using our computer and then put it to sleep and then my wife logs in to her profile, the AirPods disappear. However, if I log out of my profile completely and my wife logs in, then the AirPods remain. So the workaround is just to log out of your profile completely when you're done using the computer. I will keep you updated.

I have had the airpod pro 2 for 2 months now, and they still dont show at all in find my on my phone, ipad or macbook. I tried removing them and reading them, this worked for a few days then they disappeared again. My old airpod pro 1 are always there without any issue. There is something majorly wrong with new ones.

I dont have fast user switching or ever login with a different user.
