I just activated my new iPhone 14 Pro Max about a week ago and I am having the same issue. My phone is not sending the notification sounds when I have messages as well as many other apps while in the Lock Screen. All the settings are correct. I see I am not alone with this problem, when will there be a fix, you pay too much money for these expensive phones and it cannot provide you the basic feature you need on a daily basis.

Just got a new iPhone 14 and I’m not receiving sound notifications from a couple of specific apps, namely YouTube and DoorDash. I’ve spent several hours on the phone with Apple Support over the past 4 days. All of them checked, double checked, and triple checked all of my settings; all correct. We even did a remote factory reset to wipe everything, including the IOS software off the phone, and reinstalled it. Not only do I still not have sound notifications, but now I’ve lost badge notifications for the Locals app. Before I got my iPhone 14, I had a similar problem with the iPhone 12. On that phone, I never received sound notifications for YouTube. DoorDash sound notifications did work…for about a year. All of a sudden, DoorDash sound notifications just stopped working. I can’t remember if it was after a software update or not, but it’s clear that this is an Apple problem, not a settings problem, and not a problem with the third party application software, which is what they’re now using as their excuse. Apple Support has said they’ve done all they could do, and I should contact the app developer. Yeah right. This is beyond frustrating. These phones are too expensive for them to be malfunctioning with something that should be so simple.

You’re not alone, and it’s getting really old as Apple keeps avoiding this issue. I’m on my 3rd device in probably 4 yrs now with this same issue….and when I disable Bluetooth, it works fine. But to your point….the entirety of the globe embraces Bluetooth and disabling it makes my $800 Apple Watch and my young child’s $250 (family) watch pretty well the equivalent of a 1980’s SWATCH!

in my case, I had bluetooth turned on on my 14 pro max, because I need it on. However, I have a radio in the house that has bluetooth capability. Even if the radio is set to FM and not to bluetooth, if the radio is on, it 'hijacks' the phone's bluetooth signal and sends all sounds to radio speakers. This same think happens with my car. If I am listening to my ear buds. (which have superior sound quality) and I start my car, the radio in the car hijacks the signal and the sound moves from the earbuds to the car. This also happens if my girlfriend is driving my car. If I'm in the garage, talking on the phone, and she starts my car in the driveway, the car hijacks the audio of my phone conversation and my phone goes silent. This is insane. It cannot be prevented. We are all doomed.

Same problem with me and my 14 Pro Max. I can hear audio from notifications if the screen is unlocked. If locked, silence for most notifications. Even my alarm app, which normally plays audio, only works when the screen is unlocked. When I first got the phone a couple weeks ago, it was working, but after updating to 16.0.2, it quit working. Although I do not have any disturb mode set or an active focus window and the ring/silent switch is in the correct position (I can hear the phone ring when I'm called), the notifications are silent. I think it's a bug.

I’m having a similar issue, I’ve been searching through all the threads I can find. This is my situation:

I have a Garmin watch constantly connected through Bluetooth to an iPhone 14 Pro Max. I’ve checked focus, the side switch, contacts are not muted, notification settings (endlessly), etc. I actually even did a factory reset, and started from a blank slate. I also have a MacBook Pro and iPad Pro that I forward messages to through my iPhone settings. I’m not sure if this is part of it or not, but it doesn't seem to be.

I also understand that the default behavior is for the phone to pass the notification to the smartwatch if you have one, which I do, even though it's not an Apple Watch.

I’ve only been testing iMessage by sending myself text messages from Google Voice, and asking one of my contacts, John, to text me.

Google Voice iMessage Test:

Bluetooth on, screen locked. No sound on iPhone, watch vibrates.

Bluetooth on screen unlocked: Sound on iPhone, watch vibrates.

Bluetooth off screen locked: Sound on iPhone, nothing on watch

Bluetooth off screen unlocked: Sound on iPhone, nothing on watch

All of those seem to make sense based on the design, however…

Test with John:

Bluetooth on, screen locked. Sound on iPhone, watch vibrates.

Honestly, this is the behavior I want, but what's driving me crazy is that it’s not consistent, I can’t figure out why John’s messages make a notification sound, but my google voice texts to myself do not. I've checked the settings on the contact card, and I don't see anything different. I also checked the conversation itself in iMessage, and it looks the same.

What's even stranger, is that every once in while the Google Voice texts I send to myself will make a sound on my iPhone and vibrate my watch, but I can't find a pattern to this one. It's very infrequent and seems random.

Also, other apps seem to make a sound and vibrate my watch. For instance, I use Outlook for work, it makes a sound on my phone and vibrates my watch every time as long as I don't have a do not disturb set.

If it's the design that the phone passes the notification to a smartwatch, I guess that makes sense, and I can try to live with that. But being on Garmin, I don't think I have the same notification options on my watch. But I prefer the Garmin watch because I use a Garmin head unit for cycling that connects to sensors on my bike. So I'm already in that ecosystem, and I like the training metrics.

Even still the fact that it's not consistent is really bothering me.

While there is at least one person with a genius-level IQ (that I know of) who regularly posts in these forums, Apple doesn't. They also don't read here for feedback or suggestions. So, beyond whatever catharsis it affords you, yelling at Apple here won't accomplish much.

Same for me, ever since I had this phone 3 weeks ago, I have tried absolutely everything but still don’t get notifications when I want them but as soon as I unlock; I get bombarded by dozens of notifications that should have come when I didn’t need to use the phone. Still no sound though and all settings are correct but I have no longer and option to change the sound
