iPhone 14 Notifications / text sounds not working¡

Nope, that doesn't work for me. My only workaround right now is leaving the screen active. In so doing I get iMessages audio notifications and new mail audio notifications. But in "Screen Dim" mode the audio for both doesn't work.

Even with the mute switch on, the sound is at best intermittent. It appears when rebooting the sound /notifications work as they should, then for what ever reason the notifications stop working again. Very annoying and still no fix other than going to the Iphone 15...?

The fix…. Unfortunately the fix for this is to reset your phone to factory settings and DO NOT CHANGE ANY SETTINGS. No fun but the alerts work and you’ll hear your messages! You can’t even use Face ID 🪪 or something simple like changing the fonts. In reality, the phones and software work perfectly at factory settings but you can’t change anything if you want the message alerts. Apple needs to do something

Despite "the volume buttons will not affect the volume of the ringtone and alerts," if the volume is turned off with the volume button my text alert will not sound. Haptics are set to Always Play, volume in settings (Sounds & Haptics) is up full.

Same issue for me pretty much since I got 14 Pro on release day. Phone is in my pocket or on table (locked), no audible notifications; phone is unlocked, audible notifications work.

It used to make a tweet sound but now it just makes a quiet whoop sound.

I’ve checked all the reasonable causes for this and the settings are all correct. Maybe I’ll try turning my phone off.

Only way I found is never set phone to lock and it works but battery goes in one day

Have you updated to iOS 17.1? There were some changes made in notifications.

Mine is the total opposite. I can’t get notifications and sounds while the phone is locked. If I unlock it and it’s active I get no notifications or sounds. I’ve done everything in the above and nothing fixes the issue. This is with the brand new iPhone 14 pro max.

iphone 14 pro max- if my phone is on the move - whether i am walking holding it or driving, there is no notification sound. however, if my phone is kept on the table, i get the notification. i do not see any option to have notifications ON when the phone is in motion. any help ?

I’m having the same issue with my iPhone 14pro max. I’m not getting any audible notifications nor audible haptic when typing. All my settings are correct so many bugs with this phone makes me wish I hadn’t upgraded.

Yep same here iPhone 14pro running latest iOS, upgraded and running all the same settings as my XS… yet I cannot get messages to make sound when my phone is locked. I actually thought I was imagining it for a while since there is clearly nothing wrong with the speakers if it makes sound when unlocked, it’s so so frustrating!!!

Ive also had an issue with notifications not showing after the banner disappears (was never a problem with the XS which was running iOS 16 before I upgraded).

I also had issues with Siri understanding me on the new phone, where old one was fine. Downloading another accent of Siri voice was the tip that fixed that, then changing back to the usual one.

My Apple Watch series 8 also does a thing now that my series 4 never did where if I raise my watch and say “hey siri” my phone that’s across the room will ping instead, but then not be close enough to properly hear me, but most times the watch just doesn’t activate at all. And yes, all the settings are on, I’ve done multiple forum deep dives to try to fix this issue and all the others.

also finding the reception on the 14pro is terrible and no matter what settings I do for the camera it comes out AWFUL. Like really really bad. Way too much contrast, heavy darks, dark whites and way too warm or cold. Nothing helps. It looks great at first then 2 seconds later it’s like it loads properly and goes a different colour.

I waited so long to upgrade, and a huge apple fan, and this is the first iPhone & watch I’ve had where I really don’t think they’re very good at all.

Just popping on here to say, I too have this issue. And if it is indeed because of Bluetooth being enabled, that is absolutely ridiculous! Just because I have a smart watch, doesn’t mean I don’t want to hear notifications sounds on my phone when I get messages! And if we have to turn off Bluetooth in order to hear notification sounds, what is the point of buying an Apple Watch!?!

I also have issues with the camera. Macro mode is garbage! The camera app won’t focus on the subject in macro mode, so the pics are blurry. I DID just learn of a work around for that, kind of, but the pics still turn out a bit “noisy” and pixilated. Also, when I tried to record video at a concert, after 15 seconds the entire camera app freezes, and I have to force close the camera app, and restart it again, only to have it freeze up again after another 15 seconds.

Both of these issues started happening immediately after I got my 14 pro max on release day, and continue even though I am keeping up to date on software updates.
