Folks,
Lock screen customisations, on iPad, are only available for iPadOS 17.
There are NO lock screen customisations, for iPad, in any version of iPadOS 16, AND, at this late stage/timeframe, never will be.
Anyone with iPads stuck on iPadOS 16 are stuck with whatever default lockscreen look Apple has coded into iPadOS 16.
There are ONLY three models of iPad that are forever stuck on some version of iPadOS 16.
The 2015/2016, 12.9 inch screen iPad Pro models. The 2016 9.7 inch screen iPad Pro model and the 2017 5th gen regular, 9.7 inch screen iPad.
If you want an iPad that has a cutomisable lock screen, you will need to purchase a new or “newer“ ( refurbished or used, secondhand ) iPad model.
All of these older model iPads below CAN, currently, run the latest releases of iPadOS 17.
2017, 12.9 inch screen iPad Pro models ( 1st gen Pencil support )
2017, 10.5 inch screen iPad Pro models ( 1st gen Pencil support )
( The above iPad models, probably, are at their last full year of full Apple OS support. )
2018 11 inch or 12.9 inch screen iPad Pro models ( 2nd gen Pencil support )
2020 11 inch or 12.9 inch screen iPad Pro models ( 2nd gen Pencil support )
2018, 9.7 inch screen iPad 6th gen models ( 1st gen Pencil support )
2019, 10.2 inch screen iPad 7th gen models ( 1st gen Pencil support )
2020, 10.2 inch screen iPad 8th gen models ( 1st gen Pencil support )
2020, 10.2 inch screen iPad 8th gen models ( 1st gen Pencil support )
2021, 10.2 inch screen iPad 9th gen models ( 1st gen Pencil support )
2018, 11 inch or 12.9 inch screen iPad Pro models ( 2nd gen Pencil support )
2019, 10.5 inch screen iPad Air 3rd gen models ( 1st gen Pencil support )
2021 10.9 inch screen iPad Air 4th gen models ( 2nd gen Pencil support )
2019, 7.9 inch screen iPad Mini 5th gen models ( 1st gen Pencil support )
2021 8.3 inch screen iPad Mini 6th gen models ( 2nd gen Pencil support )
Get the largest internal data storage model you can afford as NO Apple iOS device has ANY expandable storage.
Sorry to Everyone who is complaining about the lack of this lock screen customisation feature missing in iPadOS 16, but this is never going to happen.
Lame!! I'm so tired of Apple (and Microsoft) making changes to how things look and operate, assuming all users will use and appreciate these makeovers. At the very least, please let us decide for ourselves and give us the choice. Ridiculous.
100% agree with contacting Feedback. How many here did? I did so twice before, and will do it again.
Apple sometimes listens but we have to make ourselves heard first.
No Thin Font, No Peace!
(Ok that might be a little over the top.)
I’m not sure the “thin” option on the iPhone was as thin as the IOS prior to them messing with the Clock font. I want a thinner font for the iPhone and iPad than we have now have as an iPhone option.
All my friends can change the font on their Lock Screens, because they have phones. I only have an iPad, and want to be able to customise my Lock Screen to show my personality. The default is boring and needs to be upadated.
Apple coders:
Please fix the Lock Screen customization issue for iPad os 16+
They are slow but had to apply to iphone first. Be patient
It’s not silly, If you don’t ask you’ll never get. There’s been a couple of updates since I posted the question, appears that it’s not a priority as yet..☹️
Well it’s now 16.2 and still looks corny.
Ask your school IT department for assistance as they control what
can be installed and/or changed on the school's iPads.
They will get around to it. Be patient. Course they would give you the option if given to iphone. Based on importance and Iphone is more important than iPad so its first in line. Common sense there is no reason for them to not apply same “basic” feature “upgrade” to the IPad. Its just silly to keep asking this question when you know they are working on it.
Glad to see I’m not alone in hating the new clock font. Ugh. I can’t get past it to learn what good updates may have been added. Let’s hope they fix this soon - it can be the little things that matter.
Agreed. I prefer my old font previously to ANY of the choices on iPhone. Furthermore, the locked screen and Home Screen images I used previously were of the earth at night and day, which ironically line up with the wireless charging spots, was no longer available on Apple site. I had to scour the web to find the, to reload it so my clock font could be changed. Sometimes the changes Apple does does not work for its customers. So much for making it user friendly.
Who ever decided to change the clock font without giving customer a selection of fonts to choose from should be fired. The arrogance and stupidity amazes me. More and more I’m starting to hope Elon comes out with a competing product. Fix it!
If any of you, here in this post thread, decide to go down the path of purchasing used, secondhand Apple devices, from individual Apple device sellers, here is how to avoid purchasing an Apple iOS/iPadOS device with user activation lock, in the future.
If you purchase any iPad, or any Apple iOS device, for that matter, used/second hand, online, or even in-person, make sure this iPad does NOT have user activation lock and has been properly reset for sale.
A properly reset for sale iPad should initially power up to an animated, multi-language “Welcome” screen.
DO NOT take the iPad seller's word that this iPad is user activation lock free!
We have seen plenty of used iOS device purchasers get scammed.
User Activation Lock can never be bypasss, circumvented or worked around IF there is no correct previous/original user information to be able to do so.
Apple doesn't get involved with ANY user activation locked, used/second-hand sold devices, either.
So, buyer beware!
If purchasing a used device in-person, power the iPad ON
If the iPad DOES NOT display the initial animated, multi-language “Welcome” screen, then pass on purchasing this iPad.
If the iPad powers up to any other screen, then forget purchasing this iPad.
You cannot trust that the seller actually has the correct needed info to properly reset the iPad back to factory settings right then and there before the actual purchase and exchange of money for the iPad, in question.
Pass on the device!
If you are purchasing this used iPad online ask the seller to provide multiple images, either online or be sent to you via email, showing this animated, multi-language “Welcome” screen of the interested in purchasing iPad model.
Even better, ask for a short video be sent to you showing this animated, multi-language “Welcome” screen, in action and in its entirety, posted to the online ad or emailed to you.
If the online iPad seller refuses any of these requests, pass on the iPad. DO NOT buy!
Good Luck to You!
Thanks LotusPilot, it looks like I’m gonna have to live with it for now..
While the future feature-set is unknown, as with previous major releases, additional features and capabilities are likley to be added over the iOS/iPadOS16 lifecycle.
