This seems to have solved my problems:

https://www.droidwin.com/iphone-calendar-app-excessive-battery-drain-fix/

Numerous users have voiced their concern that the Calendar app is hogging an astronomical amount of battery from their devices. Users have reported that if they check the Battery stats for the past 24 hours, then the Calendar app is sitting right there at the top, running for over 15 hours in the background and around 83 hours in the last 7 days.

Correspondingly, it seems to hog around 40% of the battery which is definitely not what one would expect from an app belonging to this domain. What makes the matter worse is the fact that Calendar isn’t even present under background app refresh, so you cannot disable its background activity as well. With that said, there does exist a nifty workaround that shall help you resolve this bug. So without further ado, let’s check it out.

Nearly all the users who were getting bugged with this issue had one thing in common- they were all using the Apple Watch. Upon further debugging the issue, it turned out the issue is the watchOS. So here’s what you need to do to rectify this bug once and for all.

  1. To begin with, long press the Calendar app and select Re-Arrange App.
  2. After that, tap on the minus icon to remove this app from your device.
  3. Now unpair your Apple Watch from your device.
  4. Then reinstall the Calendar app on your iPhone from the App Store.
  5. Finally, pair your Apple Watch with your device and the issue should be rectified.

That’s it. These were the steps to fix the Calendar app excessive battery drain issue on your iPhone. If you have any queries concerning the aforementioned steps, do let us know in the comments. We will get back to you with a solution at the earliest.

yes same here: 13 pro 256gb, good before, with ios 15 and terrible after updating to ios 16. I have tried everything, even clear installation from dfu and even kept empty for a few days, not just a couple (no backup, not even photos transferred). Same attempt with ios 16.1! Battery health above 90%. The visit at the genius bar was just frustrating and making Apple sound very bad. After all their tests the "genius" said this: you know when you upgrade the ios (from 15 to 16) you have to consider that the new one is "designed" for new devices, not really for old models. This my experience with Apple. A friend of mine returned his 14pro max (after been years with iphones), not gonna tell you which other brand he is using now.

Agreed, I did a full restore of my iPhone 13 mini. Restored my phone from the ICloud backup as per the instructions.

As soon as I enabled the contacts sync with ICloud the battery drain resumed. This didn’t solve the problem.

It’s also not a solution for users to restore their phones and reinstalling iOS every time you install a systems update. This really is a huge bungle by Apple. This also puts an increased wear on the phone battery that Apple obviously doesn’t want to take responsible for and consequently they don’t wish to acknowledge the issue in the first place.

Turning off iCloud sync and contacts sync the standby time returns to something resembling normal. However using safari or facebook apps even over WiFi drains about 20% battery per hour. This isn’t okay by any standards when Apple advertises upto 15 hours of battery life for the iPhone 12 mini.

There are obviously some fundamental problems in iOS 16 that Apple has failed to identify.

I’ve been experiencing the battery drain since updating to 6.1. I’ve chatted with Apple and spoke to support, but their only recommendation was to wipe the phone and reinstall. I really didn’t want to do that, because it takes a long time and I didn’t think it would work. I finally gave in and wiped the phone and the upshot: no change. Still high battery drain. Apple has a serious bug somewhere, but they don’t appear to know what it is yet. I’ve been warning all family members to avoid this update at all costs.

Mines been mostly good for the last week. I too tried everything and in the end I think it was the couple of days after the update that did it. I thought there is some unadvertised indexing or synchronizing that is burning the battery the first few days after the update. However, every once in a while I see a heavy drop and heat, and which when I do, I restart the phone and that seems to do the trick. They need to sort this out, and I’m sure they will. Eventually. If by then I see anything less then 100% battery health, they will be replacing my phone.

Well, it appears that I was right to be cautiously optimistic, since the problem doesn't seems to be fixed. My battery is draining quickly and Home & Lock Screen is using 42% of battery, onscreen for 11 minutes. There appears to be a process related to the Home & Lock Screen that is running out of control in the background.

I'm about ready to just take my iPhone into the Apple Genius Bar, though I fear they'll just tell me that the phone tests fine and that there's nothing they can do. I've been using a Mac since 1985, and got my first iPhone the week it was introduced and this is the worst bug I've ever seen. I'm very, very, disappointed and I have told everyone I know to be extremely cautious about updating to the latest iOS.

YES! as soon as I updated I only get about 5 hours of life out of my iPhone 13 Pro 1TB. I went to the Carlsbad Apple store today and they told me that my battery is fine and to restart from factory settings!!!! no worries about my time I guess.

I have to charge my phone at least three times a day. Either I will have to re-install factory settings and software and then put things back on one by one.. or wait for the next update and carry around an external battery.

REDICULOUS!

Honestly I don't have any idea what's going on. I've heard "It's the photo app" (even apple admitted to heavy indexing after the update) "its the calendar!" "It's the mail app", "It's Siri" - I'm not convinced its any one thing. I believe there is a bug that doesn't release network connections - which would explain the instances of "warm phone" syndrome, as while the CPU will generate heat when under load, its usually the radios that cause heat on iPhones. I had this problem for several days after updating which could have been my photo app indexing, but who knows. I thought my fix was disabling "live activities" as mine was resolved after that was done, but it could just as easily been something else like the photo app finished. Who knows. All I know that what once was terrible, is now behaving as expected. I put it on charge last night at 81% after coming off the charger at 6am that morning. I'm sure there will be an eventual update, or at least a warning that "you're phone will experience heavy radio usage for several days after the update due to....?"

Since updating to iOS 16 my 6 month old iPhone 13 is at 50% after 3 hours of moderate use. The battery life has absolutely gone to **** with this new OS. I've tweaked brightness way down, shut off background updating for most apps (Weather, in particular was a prime offender here but can't be shut off) and turned off most notifications. Still abysmal battery life.
