Hi guys, I updated my 12.9 inch M2 iPad Pro to iPadOS 16.two b**a three (apple forbids me to mention the b word) and I can confirm the handwriting issue with apple pencil is FINALLY FIXED and it works perfectly fine now even with hover feature turned on on both apple notes and third party note taking apps. It is a very stable system as far as I can tell and I haven’t run into any issues with apps like Notability and GoodNotes 5. If this is an urgent issue that needed to be fixed ASAP for you, I recommend updating to this b**a immediately

I have the same issue and had an appointment with Genius Bar… we tested with different apple pencils and on all M2 iPad Pros that’s on display in the store and every single one of them have the same issue! They couldn’t do anything other than reporting it to Apple at the moment…
I have the same problem with my M2 Ipad Pro 12.9“ in Goodnotes. I temporarily solved the problem by disable hover features in the Apple Pencil Settings. But it’s really annoying because I want to use the hover features. Because otherwise I could just have bought the 2021 model…Hope they fix it soon
I just got my new iPad Pro 2022 today and have noticed the same problem that didn't seem to be there with my previous one (iPad Pro 2016).
However, if you disconnect the stylus and draw with your finger in GoodNotes the lines look fine. And there is no problem with the lines in Procreate at all. Super smooth lines.
It must be a GoodNotes issue.
Disabling hover does not help in my case but when I zoom into the page and write in notability, the issue is dramatically reduced. I haven’t tried this with other apps but zooming in and writing has made the issue manageable. Though I hate having to scroll right every couple of words.
Ok so I went to an Apple Store today, they tested the hardware and all that, it is confirmed that it’s a software bug because I also tried one of the iPad they had in store and same thing happened.
looks like the iPad IOS 16.2 has resolved this issue - please check!
I have the exact same problem.
I have found that in the apple notes app if you turn the screen to dark mode (black background) the problem goes away.
So it seems to be an issue on white background apps.
Wonder if anyone else has this issue.
This has been an issue since IOS 16, its not about Gen 5 or 6. I have the Gen 5, after IOS 16, the lagging started.
i thought the Gen 6, would have resolved. But the answer is a big NO … its still not resolved with IOS 16.3.1.
Dont think Apple is taking it seriously, as this problem has been on-going since the introduction of IOS 16.
This has not yet been resolved in either Goodnotes or Notability :(
The only thing where I can use "solid" writing is Collanotes and with Apple Pencil hover enabled.
Why is there so much lag and problems with writing on M2 iPads with their pencil hover feature?
:(
I have the exact same issue. Using the Apple Pencil on my new M2 iPad Pro (iPadOS 16.1) is super laggy. It fells more as if the pencil is scribbling and doesn't strictly follow my moves. By the way I noticed that this issue occurs way more often in third party apps than in Apple notes. Seems to be a software bug. I hope Apple is fixing this very soon.
I've been taking notes for school in the Goodnotes 5 app on my iPad Pro 11in 3rd Gen and I thought that I would upgrade to the M2 iPad Pro 12.9in 6th Gen. I got so disappointed when my cursive handwriting became so square and unnatural, there was some kind of lag/glitch in every stroke I made and the written stroke doesn't reflect the movement and pressure coming from my hand. I brought this up to Apple support and the best solution they could provide me was to purchase another brand-new iPad with the exact same model and see if I still experienced the same problem, they thought that maybe the problem was that I might've got one in a bad batch. However, I still am experiencing that exact same problem. My handwriting is still so unnaturally square and ugly. I am so very disappointed because I thought I was getting myself an upgrade from my old iPad but I was getting a way better and more authentic handwriting experience on my old iPad. This issue needs to be noticed so that Apple can work on a solution ASAP.
I think the issue started with the IOS 16 version. I had the previous ipad pro 12.9 the 4th Generation. The apple pencil worked well until i updated to IOS 16. I don’t think there is an issue with IPad Pro M2, the primary issue is with IOS 16. I just updated IOS 16.2, yet still having the same problem.
Yes, it’s quite annoying and hope Apple takes note and rectifies this soon. I think Apple should come forward and give us assurance when this will be rectified instead of ignoring our msgs and continue to do updates without tackling some key issues customers are facing with their devices on daily basis.
Got the m2 iPad Pro, tried using one note and noticed the issue. Took me a while to pin point what was wrong compared to my wife’s m1 iPad Pro. Anyway, sucks it hasn’t been resolved. I’ve returned my m2 iPad and got a refurbished m1 iPad
Could someone feedback if in dark mode the problem goes away.
