Hi guys, I updated my 12.9 inch M2 iPad Pro to iPadOS 16.two b**a three (apple forbids me to mention the b word) and I can confirm the handwriting issue with apple pencil is FINALLY FIXED and it works perfectly fine now even with hover feature turned on on both apple notes and third party note taking apps. It is a very stable system as far as I can tell and I haven’t run into any issues with apps like Notability and GoodNotes 5. If this is an urgent issue that needed to be fixed ASAP for you, I recommend updating to this b**a immediately
it looks like IOS 16.4 may have really improved this issue - anyone else notice?
Hey shuhao718,
I have the same problem too with my new M2 iPad Pro 12.9“. My handwriting now is really unreadable. Can you too already draw a line 1-2mm above the screen? Because I think it‘s a problem regarding how the hover feature is calibrated…
Kind regards,
Heyy,
The thing is, I think the hover feature is not just a „feature“, it‘s generally a new way of how the touch unit of the display measures where the apple pencil is located. I think it can be fixed with a software update but they need to notice it!
Regards,
Yes, even I bought my Apple iPad Pro 12.9 inch M2 a few days back. It arrived yesterday. I then updated the IOS and all the apps, including Notability, Procreate, GoodNotes 5 & CollaNote. Unfortunately, shaky handwriting was visible in all digital notetaking apps. I find it highly unbearable, and I'm taking this up with Apple in the next few days.

this is the other thread with the same issue
im surprised. why are we testing for you apple?!
tech support i called said to post in this page as well.
so please go spam that page because they are so slow to fix this.
idk if they enjoy doing refunds when people eventually start to scribble on their m2s.
why are they not scribbling now? no school or etc?
shrugs!
agreed - 16.2 seems to have made some improvements - but it's as if there is a laxity / too much fluidity in the Pencil - like it's missing grip and so the resulting handwriting is like a fountain pen leaking ink - it's messy .... but better than before I think.
supramaniam, did you also experience distorted writing with the Apple Pencil on your 4th gen pro? Like weird corner angles when drawing curves or O's where the line doesn't follow the pencil and letters end up looking blocky instead of round?
I tried a M2 model in the store and while it was laggy, there were also weird distortion. The iPad Air next to didn't distort the writing but was definitely super laggy and on iPadOS 16
I hate to say it but the only improvement they brought to this m2 iPad turns out to be a bug for us🌚
I also have the same problem. How can we solve this problem?
Hi Pemochi333,
Thanks for the reply and yes, that’s exactly what I’m facing too. Also I can’t draw a straight diagonal line on it, I think it is the hover thingy, but even if I turn the hover effect off it’s still happening.
Regards,
I hope even GoodNotes, CollaNote and Noteshelf also raise the same issue with Apple. I’ve already reported the same problem to Paperlike’s customer service. Even Paperlike is taking up the issue with Apple with the release of the iPad Pros with the new M2 chip. It’s probably going to help Apple to introduce the new iPadOS update for us to install.
Hellp PJSsa, just saw the post, turing it into dark mode does not make a difference for me. According to notability it is an apple issue and i dont think they can solve it https://support.gingerlabs.com/hc/en-us/articles/360035063091-Recently-Reported-Issues-Last-Updated-Nov-10-2022-
I tried this and unfortunately the issues still persists for me. I write really small to take notes for school and so it’s really easy to notice the issue with being able to write neatly. Unfortunately I will be returning this iPad Pro with M2 chip and continuing to use a 1st gen iPad Pro that works way better.
This post totally made me feel better that it wasn't just me going crazy. Recently purchased a new 12.9" M2 iPad Pro with Gen 2 Pencil and I immediately noticed how choppy and unnatural my handwriting became after coming from an iPad 6th gen with apple pencil 1. I started to think it was just me but glad its not. I do have a store appt this weekend to bring up the issue and show them in person to bring more awareness. Hopefully, as the other commenter suggested, an upcoming update will fix this. I'd hate to return this beast of an iPad after being excited to get drawing on it.
thanks to ed_word post /was 'following' here. got my 11" aft returning 12.9" ... took some time to figure how to update it but i don't feel it is completely the same as my 2017 ... perhaps cos i slap a screen protector on it vs the other.. hope that 'more fixes' come along. shrugs!
