iPhone text notifications are very loud

I have IPhone 14 pro max. When I'm on a phone call if I receive a text, the sound will be so loud on the speaker that's on my ear while on a phone call.

This never happened on my older Iphone's as they will only vibrate if I'm on the call.

I called apple support and lady couldn't find any setting that would put text and other notification on silent or lower the volume while on the phone call.

Is there a solution or should I return this phone to Apple since every other phone in this universe doesn't make you deaf by loud text tones while your phone is on your ear during a call.

Agreed. The notification is deafening when the phone is held up to my ear. It stinks to spend this much money on a phone and have little acknowledgment or responsiveness. I have not found a suggestion that solves this problem since September now.

I don't expect a response from Apple nor any change - never mind an instant one - and never have. Perhaps if a robust number of users report the issue (unlikely because I don't hear of a lot of people with the issue or I am certain this would have had to come to a resolution by now due to how negative it is), but even at that I understand there is no guarantee.

I do hold out hope that Apple may consider fixing the deafening noise that blasts unexpectedly into a very small group of their phone users' ears if enough of the customers experiencing it report the "feature" that some of us have been given.

Regardless, it's encouraging that they may consider it if a large number of people make the same request. For now I'll keep reporting and calling.

Thank you for your continued insight.

Same issue on my 14 pro max. I went to Apple Genius Bar and they acknowledged that this is common problem so no need to change my headset as Apple has not confirmed it is a hardware issue.

they told me to wait for software update.

Bloody it is already 6 months since you launched this phone and one of the biggest phone company in the world has not able to figure out this software update yet.

shame on Apple!

I finally took the plunge to trade in my Iphone XS Max for the 14 Pro Max. Whenever I talk on the phone and hear text messages, email messages and other apps pinging loudly in my ear, it is very distracting and loud! No other version of iphone has done this. Putting the phone on silent is not an option and definitely not a great user experience. Had I known this was an issue beforehand, I would have kept my 10 Max.

Hello im an Audio Engineer and last night I had the same issue.

I have previous ear damage and hence very sensitive hearing, my left ear is my ‘good’ ear.

I was on a call and got the usual tone BLARED into my ear drum at full volume just because i was on a call.

The fact that Apple has not fixed this immediately is extremely shocking imo. i expected way more from this company.

It’s not just the upgraded iPhones.

I have an iPhone 12, which I bought shortly after they came out.

I never had this problem until one of the updates, then suddenly I’m being deafened by text notifications while I’m talking to someone

It did used to just vibrate automatically when you were on a call and them not taking responsibility for a horrible mistake along the line is just wrong.

I tried turning off text notifications so I just wouldn’t get them during a call but, not only did that not work, it was also very inconvenient.

I tried going with Google after years of Apple and ended up coming right back because their support was nonexistent when I was trying to get rid of popsicle or whatever the **** it was called.

I’m with Apple to stay but they really need to do something about fixing an issue that ALL of their customers are complaining about, even if they don’t do it here.

Thanks, I am and always was a Mac user. So I decided to give iPhones a shot.

overall great device, but there are some bugs and glitches that welcome criticism such as this.

How hard can it be to have such events occurring and no warning given?

This genuinely hurt my ear and if it was a known issue, there should be a warning label on all new iPhones until they fix it.

otherwise, this is obvious negligence over what seems to be an avoidable issue.

“It's a common issue which apple is aware. One of their senior support member acknowledged over the phone. Strange that you said that Iphone 12 got affected as well as on my wife's 13, it's perfectly fine, as it was for the last 10 generations of iphone.”

How is it strange, exactly?

I have the same issue with my iPhone 12 and it didn’t start until after one of the updates.

Explain to me how saying this is strange.

You know what? Don’t bother. I’m not interested.

Guys I'm quite sure that this is an issue with the proximity sensor not the software. As I've also noticed the screen also doesn't turn off after picking up a call and happens often that I screw up my home screen or enter random apps with my cheek and/or ear. I'm hoping it's software related tho. Cause if that's true I don't see any fix on the horizon. We need a refund or just sell it on secondary. Probably what I'm gonna do if this doesn't get fixed in a month or two. Bro after switching from Samsung to iPhone for the first time I feel like I've switched to Xiaomi. GF had these kind of problems with her Poco.

That being said. Guess where the proximity sensor is located?
