iPhone text notifications are very loud

I have IPhone 14 pro max. When I'm on a phone call if I receive a text, the sound will be so loud on the speaker that's on my ear while on a phone call.

This never happened on my older Iphone's as they will only vibrate if I'm on the call.

I called apple support and lady couldn't find any setting that would put text and other notification on silent or lower the volume while on the phone call.

Is there a solution or should I return this phone to Apple since every other phone in this universe doesn't make you deaf by loud text tones while your phone is on your ear during a call.

My wife and I had this exact same issue and we were able to re-create it, and stop it from happening. I think it’s still a bug and I don’t know exactly why it’s happening, but this is what happened to us.

If we power off our Apple Watch and then take the phone call and have a text message received then the loud noise from the text message notification will echo in your ear while you’re on the phone call. As everyone stated, this is actually quite painful and unsafe.

However, if we power the Apple Watch back on and repeat the same test being on the phone and receiving a text message, then we no longer get the loud text message notification in the ear while we were on the phone call.

We can repeat this over and over, don’t know for sure why this is happening. Our Apple watches line share with our phones and we also have Verizon service.

Hopefully, Apple will be reading these forums, and this user experience will be helpful for them to diagnose and fix the problem.

We have iPhone 14 Pro’s, and I have the Apple ultra watch and my wife has the Apple series 8 watch.

Both of our Apple iPhones are at 16.2 OS. Both of our Apple watches are at 9.2 OS.

Interesting. I do not have an Apple Watch, but this could be useful information for Apple. My reporting via IdrisSeabright's link hasn't done anything yet, but it's worth getting as many reports as possible.

No, you won't get a response from Apple. And no, there won't be an instant change just because you asked for it. But yes, if a large enough number of people make the same request, Apple may consider it.

I don't expect a response from Apple nor any change - never mind an instant one - and never have. Perhaps if a robust number of users report the issue (unlikely because I don't hear of a lot of people with the issue or I am certain this would have had to come to a resolution by now due to how negative it is), but even at that I understand there is no guarantee.

I do hold out hope that Apple may consider fixing the deafening noise that blasts unexpectedly into a very small group of their phone users' ears if enough of the customers experiencing it report the "feature" that some of us have been given.

Regardless, it's encouraging that they may consider it if a large number of people make the same request. For now I'll keep reporting and calling.

Thank you for your continued insight.

I finally took the plunge to trade in my Iphone XS Max for the 14 Pro Max. Whenever I talk on the phone and hear text messages, email messages and other apps pinging loudly in my ear, it is very distracting and loud! No other version of iphone has done this. Putting the phone on silent is not an option and definitely not a great user experience. Had I known this was an issue beforehand, I would have kept my 10 Max.

Hello im an Audio Engineer and last night I had the same issue.

I have previous ear damage and hence very sensitive hearing, my left ear is my ‘good’ ear.

I was on a call and got the usual tone BLARED into my ear drum at full volume just because i was on a call.

The fact that Apple has not fixed this immediately is extremely shocking imo. i expected way more from this company.

Thanks, I am and always was a Mac user. So I decided to give iPhones a shot.

overall great device, but there are some bugs and glitches that welcome criticism such as this.

How hard can it be to have such events occurring and no warning given?

This genuinely hurt my ear and if it was a known issue, there should be a warning label on all new iPhones until they fix it.

otherwise, this is obvious negligence over what seems to be an avoidable issue.

“It's a common issue which apple is aware. One of their senior support member acknowledged over the phone. Strange that you said that Iphone 12 got affected as well as on my wife's 13, it's perfectly fine, as it was for the last 10 generations of iphone.”

How is it strange, exactly?

I have the same issue with my iPhone 12 and it didn’t start until after one of the updates.

Explain to me how saying this is strange.

You know what? Don’t bother. I’m not interested.

That doesn't solve the issue. no matter how you set it up, text message notification that is coming during a phone call , instead of lowering the volume of notification sound by %90 while you're on a call and proximity sensor knows that the phone is on your ear like it used to do on all my Iphones since 4S it uses top ear speaker on a very loud 9DB volume, and this is same on all iphone 14 Pro Max, I exchanged it for a new one and it has the same issue.. so please before you answer with scripted reply read the original post in its entirety because you're representing a multi billion dollar company.
