Disable "Add New Wallpaper" from iPhone lock screen

The new Change your wall paper from the Lock screen is the MOST annoying addition that Apple has ever created! I try to open my phone and find that the phone wants to change wallpapers! It may be great for some people, but I should be able to disable it in Settings! If I want my phone to look different, I want to explicitly tell it what it should look like! I hate having it assume I want to play with looks when I am trying to answer a phone call, or look up information! How do I make it stop trying to change wallpaper on the lock screen, PERMANENTLY!

Absolutely! I’ve already been thinking about going back to android. And androids have WAY better features for parents with school-age kids, i.e., Apple iPhone’s screen time only lets you choose one “downtime” timeframe: how is a parent (who needs their child to have a phone for pickup/drop-off communication) supposed to choose whether to have downtime be during school or for bedtime/overnight?

No, it’s not possible and ridiculous to remember to change it every morning, afternoon and night — then, factor in kids of different ages, schools and bedtimes.

Having two options for a downtime schedule cannot be difficult to implement since SO many other apps have this feature already, like Bark for example.

Yes, I can and have gotten and used some of these other apps, but inevitable overlaps are beyond frustrating and confusing and take up HOURS of time unnecessarily since Apple can just fix screen time to allow for more than one restricted time period per day. These issues on a device for communication absolutely lead to conflicts between parents and their children, especially tweens and teens, when the device literally exists to create the ability to…communicate!

Frankly, if iPhones have screen time, it should be as good as or better than the basics of apps for the same.

Instead of improving these existing features, Apple is adding ways for kids to get around purposeful restrictions.

C’mon. There’s just no excuse for this….

Apple

please listen to your customers. This silly widget thing that changes the lock screen/ homepage image is shocking. Absolutely annoying as ****. I have been a loyal iPhone user ever since the original, but your phones have been on the decline since version 10.

for the 1st time in over 10 yrs I’m actually looking at the possibility of replacing my phones with Samsung or another alternative

and don’t get me started on the predictive text.

i just tried this and it doesnt work. Its the worst feature ever - i literally carry my phone in my hand and becuase my thumb is touching the screen it automatically puts it into change wallpaper mode - what is this doing to the battery when my phone is supposed to be locked please?

In the immortal words of Steve Jobs, "Just avoid holding it that way." ;-)

(For anyone humor impaired in the thread, my point is that Apple has a long history of doing things the way Apple thinks is best.)

Thx but Potential means what? Yes no or maybe?
Do you know?

Nobody outside of Apple knows the answer to that, and Apple does not usually post their future plans here.

Apple does read feedback AFAICT, but they don’t usually respond to feedback submissions.

Apple have the potential to act here—it is possible—but nobody around here knows if they will, nor when.

Log feedback, turn off tap-to-wake, eyc.

tap-to-wake has nothing to do with this either. This is the bad attempt by apple thinking anyone wants to change their screen image every time they pick up their phone. This happens by accidently touching the screen too long.

15 times a day for me.

Can’t you try to avoid touching the screen too long? How are you doing it? I’ve never accidentally open up “Change Wallpaper from Lock Screen” since iOS 16 was released. And now iOS 17 is around the corner.

I’m constantly trying to get it to happen as the stupid thing changes itself in my pocket ALL THE FRIGGING TIME….. I just want it stay as it is unless I go in and change it. Why would changing the wallpaper from the Lock Screen be useful? ‘Oh, I better just change my wallpaper, lucky I don’t have to unlock my phone!’

Have you given any thought to turning off “Tap to Wake?” Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Tap to Wake > OFF.

Why would changing the wallpaper from the Lock Screen be useful?

It’s way handier than charging the Wallpaper from Settings, in my opinion.

‘Oh, I better just change my wallpaper, lucky I don’t have to unlock my phone!’

You do have to unlock your iPhone to change the Wallpaper from Lock Screen.
