Face ID - Move your iPhone a little lower

I tried slapping my phone, I reset my phone, and then slapping my iPhone 13 Pro Max, I totally turned off my camera, I cleaned (w/eye glass cleaner and dry, lent free cloth) my iPhone, I took off the clear protector, I removed my rubber case (which doesn’t obstruct the face of the camera or any part of the screen, I also update every time I see my “Settings” indicate such (currently iOS 17.5.1). I tried everything suggested in this support group over & over.

HOWEVER, after trying everything multiple times I took off my glasses, & tried one last hard “knuckle” knock (mostly out of anger) while looking at the “lower iPhone” glaring at me and voila! I was able to complete the Face ID. BUT, the second I put my glasses on, I got the FACE NOT RECOGNIZED again.

WHEN WILL THIS FRUSTRATING, RIDICULOUS, & irritating error be fixed? I venture to further say it’s NOT just the iPhone 13, 13 pro, nor 13 pro max.

Brought my phone to Apple Store. They ran tests. Problem was with the Face ID camera. Needed to be repaired $279. I ended up getting a new phone

Cleaning front camera worked for me(screen protector over it)

It's a hardware issue. I had it on my 13 mini and got it repaired since it was still under warranty. My advice is to repair your phone if it's still under warranty.

I can’t believe it. The Face ID on my 13 pro started to intermittently fail with apps. I tried to add a new alternate Face ID and it kept telling me to adjust my face in the frame etc to no avail. I tried resetting my Face ID but had the same problem. Tried power off/on - no good. Tried updating to IOS 17.3 - no good. Finally I tried giving the front camera a hard slap on my palm AND IT WORKED! Maybe a loose wire? I’m a happy camper now.

I purchased a phone case that came with a magnet sticker. The magnet sticker caused my Face ID set up to stop working. I’d fix it by smacking phone, put my magnetic case back on and my Faceid would stop working again!! There are MagSafe cases and I purchased one that has no magnet yet the phone magnet still works with the MagSafe case.

I figured out what my problem

was. The screen protector was covering the two cameras in the front. I cut it so now the cameras are working

Cleaning the front facing camera worked for me.

Cleaning my front facing camera worked when none of these suggestions worked.

I had to take my glass screen protector off. Then it worked right away.

Please get your phone looked at, I did, and I found out that the module for true depth camera failed.

I just had a same problem and I cleaned my front camera and it worked lol

I took my otterbox off & had no problem. I had all of the same issues. Of course, I tried all other fixes first. 🤦🏻‍♀️

What worked

Same thing happened to me. I think it was the IOS16; took it to the store, they did a hard reset and it worked again. Unfortunately, it stoped working a few months after that and if you still have coverage you can demand a new phone. Otherwise changing the piece is like $800 which obviously isn't the problem since we´re all complaining about it.

Reseting everything (Face ID, factory reset, etc) did not work for mine. I had to take it to the apple store
