Mac Mini M2 wifi issues

New Mac Mini M2 has constant issues with wifi. Its unusable. Ethernet works perfectly, but when using wifi the connection will consistently drop packets. Wifi works perfectly with older Mac mini M1, MacBook Pro, Intel Mac in the same small office. I have turned off all other devices and still have same issue. Did a factory reset and same issues.

Chiming in to say I'm still having the same issues. Thankfully I have access to ethernet in my spot in my home office, which is the ultimate band-aid fix. If I didn't, my computer would be unusable. Sadly, I've found it more convenient to just plug it in and let it ride with poor wifi but a strong hardwire connection.

Some other bandaid fixes that have worked for me:

  • Turning the Mac Mini on its left side (with the front facing power light toward the top increases the signal strength. The wifi antennas must be on the right side of the device. I also bought a plastic Mac Mini stand to keep it propped up well.
  • Minimizing the use of the thunderbolt ports in the Mac Mini. When I'm using 2 or fewer of the 4 thunderbolt ports in the back of the computer, my Signal to Noise ratio (SNR) is in the high 30s, with about 30% signal noise. As soon as I plug in a 3rd (and 4th) device to those thunderbolt ports, the noise goes up into the mid 50s and the SNR drops to the low 20s. So if you're able to, try not plugging too many things in to the back of the computer. (Hilariously depressing that a solution to this problem is to not utilize your $2500 computer to its full potential.)
  • Again, this computer would be UNUSABLE if I did not have access to ethernet. The Wifi is awful, while every other device on my gigabit network thrives wirelessly.

I've also had some issues with my OWC Thunderbolt 4 Dock with transferring data from one drive to another (both being plugged into the dock). Not sure if this is an issue with the Power Delivery of the dock or its relationship to the computer, or something with Ventura or Silicon. All of these things feel like a symptom of the same issue, but I can't be sure.

Truly depressing that Apple has put out a product that is borderline unusable unless the consumer uses a specific setup. I can't believe this thread with almost 300 replies and tens of thousands of views has still been ignored by Apple. A huge betrayal of the company's power users. Shame on them.

Me too. I am on my 2 exchanged because of wifi and thunderbolt issues.

This last mac Mini M2Pro was working perfectly until it did the latest update. Now it is having Wifi issues, it connects and disconnects every few seconds.

I am now testing to see if anything else, like thunderbolts, have been affected as well.

Here's my story with this issue.

Recently, I've bought a MacBook Pro 16" M2 Pro.

First, at the setup I noticed I was unable to connect to 5GHz Network!

So, I connected to 2.4GHz Network, which worked perfectly.

After the setup was completed, I was trying to connect to the 5GHz Network!

I couldn't connect to 5GHz at all, so I reached out to Apple Support, they told me I should do a complete MacOS reset. After the full MacOS reset, I was struggling with the same issue. I was going to give up, and return my new Mac device. Lastly, I reached out to my ISP, and they told me I should try on a different router. So, I bought a TP-LINK Archer C6 Router. I successfully connected to the 5GHz network. For all the Apple users, who struggles with the same issue. My suggestion is: Try out the 5GHz connection with a different router. My problem solved. :)

I also found that my Mac mini M2 Pro works with older router, it works fine with my Linksys WiFi-5 router, but not with my Asus AX-11000 nor my Asus AXE-7800, so it works with AC, but not AX or AXE protocol, and I noticed it drops connection when the router tries to push the Mac to a better band, which my AXE router constantly tries to push the Mac to 6GHz band. Once in awhile, it works and the Mac moves to 6GHz, then the problem goes away. But it's really just a temp workaround, Apple needs to get this right as soon as possible, people don't always have the freedom to choose router, especially working away from home.

I actually think I figured the problem out .

i have a router in My bedroom and in my garage I have an airmesh router extender.

( this is where I have My mac mini m2pro.}

so I did a firmware update on my airmesh extender and what it said was new on the update was they added wp3 personal . I don’t recall correctly but once I updated that boom ! I can connect perfectly fine.

But I can’t connect to my bedrooms router I think I need to update that or try to enable that wp3

I picked up a base model M2 mac mini to replace my parent's 21.5" Late 2013 iMac. First thing I did was run a speed test on 5Ghz and I was getting 7Mbps down and 10Mbps up despite my parents having a 250/10 plan with Cox. Switching to 2.4Ghz (its a separate SSID) the mac mini gets about 270Mbps down and 10Mbps - great speeds.

The router is a TP-Link Archer C7 version 4.0 that is in the same room about 15 feet away.

Its not the HDMI cable. I downloaded speedtest.net app and ran it blindly with only power and usb wired mouse connected. I put the cursor over the big GO button prior to unplugging HDMI cable and powering off monitor. Still terrible speeds.

My USB powered HUB used as a workaround introduce new issues: The LG Oled C1 is flickering 3 times in a row randomly... about 3 times in a day of 10 hours... this was not the case before.

After a reboot, not all SSD are mounted, also something you don't expect on this class of hardware.

So there is something with USB / thunderbolt port going on. Let's hope it is NOT hardware #MacMiniM2Gate :-)

I recently bought a new Mac mini Pro with a m2 chip. My internet provider is Ziggo. I also have experienced this same issue as the people above. My Mac mini Pro shows connection to the WiFi, however there is no internet connection. All my laptops and other electronic devices in my room do have WiFi and work fine. I returned the computer back to the Apple Store where it appeared to be normal functioning. However at home again the same problem appeared (No WiFi at all, but still connected). However when using the LAN cable, I have perfect internet connection. So what is the solution to this major problem that has been occurring to everyone in this thread?

I meant I read that 2 days ago https://appleinsider.com/articles/23/05/02/fourth-macos-ventura-134-beta-plagued-by-networking-issues

"reports from developers on Twitter indicate there may be a problem with the update. Tweets from developers including @Aaronp613 and @iSoftwareUpdates indicate multiple people have updated and found that they have networking issues.

Early-stage reports from users indicate it could be a Wi-Fi-specific issue, with the network connection dropping periodically for some participants."

so 13.4 BETA make it worse somehow :-(
