Apple Watch battery drain

the battery on my apple watch (series 8), purchased in late march, suddenly drains much quicker. i've only had it for a little over a month and i didn't change any settings so this is quite baffling to me.

any idea what is going on?

thanks!

Make sure to turn off background app refresh and  check walkie talkie is not accidentally turned on.

Check there is no workout running (yellow circle at top if screen.)

Make sure you have no VPN or VPN based ad-blocker on the iphone. Uninstall it then remove any profiles (iPhone Settings, General VPN & Device Management)

Force restart your watch i.e. press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds, then release both buttons when you see the Apple logo.

Then while the Watch is restarting Force Restart the paired iphone   Force restart iPhone – Apple Support (UK)

Try it for a couple of days especially if you sync photos to your Watch.

If the battery still drains  then Unpair the watch and then pair it again.

Unpair and erase your Apple Watch – Apple Support (UK)

Set up your Apple Watch – Apple Support (UK)

Similar problem BUT different pathway to get there. I have two Apple Watches (7 and 6) that normally last 28-32 hours (non-cellular, rarely play music, time depends on amount of workout time). They've been pretty consistent for the past year plus. Sudden change starting in the past week or so, they are both lasting under 24 hours. I have not changed my usage patterns, so it would seem like a SW upgrade may have increased battery drain. Anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions?

The suggestions by LD150 are good, and I'll do those, but that would not seem associated with my pattern.

Apple does not read this user-to-user technical support forum for feedback.

But you can send Apple feedback via:

Feedback - Watch - Apple

If enough users send feedback, it is more likely a decision maker will see it, and maybe take action.

Same things happening to me. My watch isn’t even that old. But ever since the latest update the battery drain has been faster than normal. Right now for instance. I got my watch off charge like maybe 15-20 minutes ago from 100% and it’s now down to 94% and it’s just sitting on my wrist. I’m not listening to music, or anything. I really don’t understand what’s going on. It’s frustrating.

I also have an Apple Watch 8 bought brand new less than a year ago. It worked great for the first few months but now I can’t even get through the day without having to charge it at least 2 times. I have removed as much as I can from it app wise, I wear it overnight to get my sleep app running but that’s it, all notifications are off, I have to tap it to get the screen on so it’s not just coming on all the time. I spent a lot of money for this watch and am extremely disappointed in Apple with all these complaints I do believe it’s a software issue! APPLE FIX THE ISSUE OF YOU WILL LOSE YOUR CUSTOMERS!!!!

I have a new Series 9 watch with apple care. The battery drains within 6 hours despite being optimized. I have seen 4 geniuses during 3 appts and spent time chatting and online trying to figure it out. I finally agreed to send it back to be repaired. Wait for it…The genius said to me that because they cannot find a problem with the 3 tests that they ran numerous times and despite having apple care and having it be less than 6 months old, the repair would be on me?! And there is nothing to repair because with their few tests they can’t find the problem?! So now what?

Same problem. I have the Apple Watch SE 2. Just got it 2 months ago and at first it was amazing. The battery lasted 2 days without a charge. Now since it updated to 10.4 I’m lucky if it last 3 hrs. What is odd is in the battery life in the watch settings it says 100% capacity remaining and the last full charge was 78% 3 days ago. I know that’s not true as every morning it’s at 100% when I put it on and then a few hrs later it’s dead. This is extremely frustrating and makes the watch unreliable now.

My W7 45mm started draining much faster about a month or so ago. No usage change, apps, or anything else changed. For 19 months it been the same, charge it in the late evening, put it on for sleep tracking, used only for notifications and the time (duh). I always end the day with about 50% or so. Now, same pattern and usage, and by the end of the day it's down to 25%.

Clearly something changed last month-ish and I hope Apple will be pushing an update to correct this soon.
