Backup No Longer Working Ove Xfinity Wi-Fi - Getting "Poor Network Conditions" Error Message

I can no longer backup over Xfinity Wi-Fi. I've reset the network settings, reset the modem, and even got a new Xfinity modem. I keep getting an error message saying "The last backup could not be completed because of poor network conditions". The network conditions are not poor.

This started with getting a new gateway from Xfinity and the upgrade is it now has IPV6 with IPV4. The issue is not all IOS processes are IPV6 compatible and there is no way to disable IPV6 on Xfinity. The only work around is to get your own router that has this function and disable it until IOS does the update. This sucks but there’s no other way. 😔

I thought I would provide an update on my situation. Just a few minutes ago for no reason I decided to try and perform an iPad Pro backup and it worked. I have not done or changed anything at all with iPad or home setup. There has not been a software update released by Apple either so it is absolutely inexplicable. I will take it though and be grateful that I can now again rely on regular backups and hopefully will be able to download upgrades when they become available.

Hi - I'm new to Xfinity, have an XB8 router, and have the problems with my IPhone 14Pro and iPad Mini 5. Apple did a workaround to download the Security update to the phone, but nothing has worked to back up my iPad so far. My Xfinity Advanced Tech (by phone) offered me my choice of XB6 or XB7 router if I want. What would I be missing to trade for older tech? Does anyone have an idea if/when Apple will update iOS for this? Thanks!

I asked this question twice, and it is not being answered. I am NEW to Xfinity. I never had a XB7 gateway, so I don’t know how that one performed. Are there any differences in speed or range? The reason I keep asking is that my XB8 gateway is upstairs, but my 4k TV is downstairs. That was the only possible placement due to available coax and VOIP phone requirements.

I am concerned after reading discussions of dead spots and buffering issues with the XB7, and would not trade down if that happened. So, can someone who’s used both please respond re: range, drops, buffering, etc.

Ok, I wrote my reply too soon. I was able to update my iPad Mini6 and iPhone 14 to iPadOS 16.5.1 and my iPhone 14 to 16.5.1(c). I was able to back up both devices. Then I was able to back up my wife's iPhone 14 and update her software to 16.5.1 and 16.5.1(c). However, I can't update my iPad Mini6 to 16.5.1(c), and I can't back up my wife's iPad Mini6 or update her software. All devices are on the same network. Go figure! I don't understand it at all and I have no idea if it's an Apple issue or a Xfinity issue.

Hi Joan,

Yes I currently have the updated modem XB8 (July 7th) - what is strange before the updated to new modem - had my old modem (XB3) where last backup on IPAD was June 27 and was on dual - I had another tech come out again and provide new modem on July 15- worked when he was here - then later that afternoon I tried and it did no work. That night on phone with Apple Support for 3 hours - nothing helped. My devices also switch wifii off and on - never did that before.

I also don't feel comfortable with changing routers myself - splitting channels - I am not tech savvy at all - I work from home and if something happens which would not allow me would be a nightmare.

I truly think this is awful we all have to go through this. I am truly disappointed in APPLE and Xfinity to say the least and just exhausted. We all need to keep back ups going on our devices - I am sure many of us use our devices for work ,etc which is now hindering us to keep important information backed up.

Joan please keep me up to date what you decide- truly appreciate you responding.

Hi Joan, thank you for your update

i feel same - we shouldn’t have to downgrade

may I ask how you have been in contact directly with support directly? Did they escalate for you and do you have a direct contact ? I also called yesterday and emailed to escalate- I also have technician coming out again tomorrow- specifically asked for a senior technician. I noticed my husbands and my iPhone backed up- earlier today when I tried to manually back up my iPhone - received error. My iPad still not updating at all- received network error

when I emailed Xfinity support I also copied out link for them to read all our issues and concerns. I do hope this is resolved sooner than later

Lets all keep everyone updated

Hi Debbie - When I got my Xfinity Flex box, it was not formatting subtitles correctly. Chat couldn’t fix it, so they opened a ticket and I got a call from Advanced Technical Services. The Rep was very helpful with all of my issues, and has checked back quite a few times. (the subtitle issue eventually got fixed after many resets)

my Gateway is dual-band but not split, so it’s both 2.4 and 5 with devices switching. I wish I could see which is using which, but the app doesn’t show me.

Hi Joan, Thank you- So to confirm your phones are working fine but IPads still not updating? If you have the xfinity app go into wifi will show all devices and equipment connected to wifi- if you see iPhone - click on - will bring you to another screen - then click on device details - will show you what dual band. Did Advanced Technician provide any insight of Xfinity working on this for all behind the scenes? They have to be aware this is a major concern for many- people don’t have time to waste endless hours on phone
