Backup No Longer Working Ove Xfinity Wi-Fi - Getting "Poor Network Conditions" Error Message

I can no longer backup over Xfinity Wi-Fi. I've reset the network settings, reset the modem, and even got a new Xfinity modem. I keep getting an error message saying "The last backup could not be completed because of poor network conditions". The network conditions are not poor.

This started with getting a new gateway from Xfinity and the upgrade is it now has IPV6 with IPV4. The issue is not all IOS processes are IPV6 compatible and there is no way to disable IPV6 on Xfinity. The only work around is to get your own router that has this function and disable it until IOS does the update. This sucks but there’s no other way. 😔

Very easy to back up with Ethernet. I think using iTunes will do the same thing (I asked Apple, but they weren’t sure). I would prefer that my devices back up automatically every 24 hours, the way they are supposed to. Since I’m a new Xfinity customer and my Gateway has never worked correctly with my Apple devices, I’d like it fixed.

I’m also having some issues with photos syncing from iCloud to my MacBook and think it’s related. My phone is sending them to iCloud, but they’re not going to the laptop. That’s essential for me, and there’s no workaround for that.

The only thing consistent about this issue is Xfinity's inability to provide a solution. Why should we have to split bands, or why should we have to buy a USB-C to Ethernet adapter in order to connect an iPad to the Xfinity gateway device in order to perform backups and updates? Who needs yet another adapter? This is maddeningly nuts. I can't wait to connect to our city fiber optic system as soon as it's available.

For those who are going the ethernet route, do you use the 2.5 GBPS ethernet port? You plug one end of an ethernet cable into this port, the other end into a USB-C adapter, and then the USB-C adapter into you iPad for performing backups and updates manually?

Backing up via Ethernet works fine.

Does anyone have a solution for iPhone not syncing with iPhotos. I can see that my phone is uploading to iCloud, but my MacBook Pro is not seeing them in iCloud and downloading. This process should happen automatically every time both devices are on the same wifi network, cannot be done with Ethernet.

I've reached the frustration point with Xfinity. The tech they sent out listened for 2 minutes, said "we don't do that" and left. The Advanced Tech on phone says "he's never heard of the problem". I explained that since I had told him, he had heard of it, and that if every one of us who called gets told the same thing, they need to better communicate since many have heard of it.

For those who downgraded to XB7 Gateways - does ALL devices work (incl iPhotos) AND is 4K TV quality the same as XB8?

I spent 3 hours over 3 calls with Apple today. 2 techs had read the notes on the issue and were trying to help. One told me to exchange the XB8 for an XB7. Considering that. The other also thought there might be an ipv6 firewall causing the problem, and suggested I check with Xfinity (I told him they were no help). Please tell me how to disable the firewall. Thanks.

Ken1222 - That's ridiculous. Two Xfinity techs have offered to let me trade down for the XB7; one was even going to ship me one and I could just send back the XB8, no charge for anything. I don't know what Triple Play pricing is though.

I'm holding onto the XB8 for now, hoping they'll find a fix. I have a bad feeling about downgrading and if they do fix it, I won't be able to get the XB8 back (or so they said).

One other thought. It could be that the firmware update was a test group, pushed out to a handful of users that they were communicating with directly via tickets that were opened from the thread on Reddit. They certainly couldn't be calling all their customers. Now that they've confirmed it was successful, which seems to have happened Saturday afternoon, they might be setting up the full system roll out of the new firmware, which hopefully will happen within a few days. Just a guess.
