Backup No Longer Working Ove Xfinity Wi-Fi - Getting "Poor Network Conditions" Error Message

I can no longer backup over Xfinity Wi-Fi. I've reset the network settings, reset the modem, and even got a new Xfinity modem. I keep getting an error message saying "The last backup could not be completed because of poor network conditions". The network conditions are not poor.

This started with getting a new gateway from Xfinity and the upgrade is it now has IPV6 with IPV4. The issue is not all IOS processes are IPV6 compatible and there is no way to disable IPV6 on Xfinity. The only work around is to get your own router that has this function and disable it until IOS does the update. This sucks but there’s no other way. 😔

Does everyone agree with me that xFinity reps who answer the phone are nin-com-poops? They are not even recognizing this issue

When you say "Xfinity has already addressed and taken responsibility for the issue. They're already pushing a new firmware update to fix this. If you read the thread, many have already been fixed (including mine) "

I have to ask, HOW ON EARTH were you able to get those BONEHEADS at xFinity support to even recognize this as an issue? I have tried countless times over the past week and spoke to at least a dozen people on the tech support line. NONE of them recognize the issue.

I appreciate your experience @joanfromhealdsburg. I managed to schedule an appointment with a xFinity technician to come here. I will make sure they clearly see this is an xFinity issue. The simple proof is that when on the xFinity Wifi, the backups do not work. When I go next door where they have Verizon, it works fine.

I will let the community know how this all ends up PROVIDED they actually show up.

Cheers

That's a good question. You would think it would be a firmware update pushed out to all users but maybe that's too logical. If it's a question of getting on a list with Xfinity, not being on Reddit probably means I'm out of luck. This is such an infuriating issue. I'm good on our iPhone 14's but not on our iPad Mini 6's. And backup on the iPads doesn't work with cellular data or by tethering from the iPhone.

I am not going to buy an adapter to resolve the inadequacies of a company when I am paying for a service. Incompetence is not a get out of jail free card. Having an iPad work because of a workaround is only a small bandaid. Most households have multiple devices and the bandaid will get ripped off upon the next time their incompetence surfaces.

yesterday when on with xfinity, before even speaking to a body with a real vocal chord, the annoying IVR recording attempted 4 times to send a reset signal to my device. Then, when I reached an agent, despite my warning them not to override a potential firmware upgrade, they reset my modem twice. BOTH times that of course dropped my phone call. once they called me back and the second time I had to start over with a new call and explain everything to a new agent (even though it’s all supposed to be in my notes).

I know what some of you are thinking, 1) stop your whining and 2) if you don’t like it, leave. But you all know that 1) thousands of us believe when you are paying for service, you deserve what you pay for and 2) grass is not greener on the other side.

Hi Joan, I am probably on at least the third different modmail thread and CC. The one last night wanted me to restart my router then asked if I had called Apple. It was after that comment that I stopped responding. Then this mornings conversation I point blank asked when is the fix going to take place amongst other things. This is the response "there is not a way for us to manually push a firmware update. While I can't guarantee that the provisioning signal will push new firmware as well, it can't hurt." That is the verbatim response. The CC's aren't even on the same page. You have one out there CCBrie promising the world and not delivering - at least for me - another telling me to contact Apple and now this one going with the let's throw spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks and oh by the way telling me they can't push out firmware updates manually when all the others on the board said they can and have. So what is the truth?

CcBrie (Brian) was the first to respond, asked me to send him info, executed the fix for the test group (I am in that group) and called me 3 times to check and see that everything was working correctly. I cannot speak to why you’re having difficulty, but he did exactly as he promised.

I also had a very good experience with Travis an Advanced Tech, who checked in every other day for the first 2 weeks I was a customer. He was not aware of this problem and couldn’t solve it, but he sure tried. I talked to a lot of idiots, but some out there were really great.

Been reading all these replies. I am in the same boat since late June. No iCloud backup on home wifi. Have the XB8 with CGM4981COM_6.2p21s2_PROD_sey. Have not contacted Xfinity support via phone or any other forums. I am not interested in a patch that is sent directly to my modem. I can backup at work or church in the meantime. Xfinity really needs to send out a broad, thoroughly tested firmware update to all customers. I am waiting for that. I'll keep checking in here. Really appreciate the community.

Debbie - are you saying there is a modem fix coming from xfinity which will allow the ipad air 5th gen to do updates and backups over wifi? I was just told yesterday that apple does not work on the newest wifi with xfinity - 6 - that it needs to be set back to 5 before the tablet will allow updates or backups over wifi. the weird thing is that I can get on the web and go to sites over wifi, can get games, etc. but cannot back up or do updates. I get the same error message as everyone else.
