Backup No Longer Working Ove Xfinity Wi-Fi - Getting "Poor Network Conditions" Error Message

I can no longer backup over Xfinity Wi-Fi. I've reset the network settings, reset the modem, and even got a new Xfinity modem. I keep getting an error message saying "The last backup could not be completed because of poor network conditions". The network conditions are not poor.

This started with getting a new gateway from Xfinity and the upgrade is it now has IPV6 with IPV4. The issue is not all IOS processes are IPV6 compatible and there is no way to disable IPV6 on Xfinity. The only work around is to get your own router that has this function and disable it until IOS does the update. This sucks but there’s no other way. 😔

Joan thank you…

yes I do prefer split - one being is my NordickTrack equipment only works best specifically on 2.4 ( so easier to manage without interruption)

However I did test my iPad today and changed wifi to the 5 band and it didn’t backup- changed back to the 2.4 and backed up- that’s what made me concerned and to now open ticket ( should be able to backup on both)

Hopefully they can fix firmware like they did yours and others - so can work as it should on both bands

GeoSaab - not to be annoying, but if you read this whole thread, you would see the link to Reddit, where the CC's have acknowledged the issue and updated as they went. There are also many posts here that copied updates for those not on Reddit.

Since I am new to Xfinity, and all of my devices failed the day I switched, it was pretty clear for me. Even so, I spent hours on the phone with Apple, troubleshooting and getting their advice. They rebuilt my iCloud photo library on my MacBook 2x, but it still didn't sync consistently until my firmware was updated. I used an Ethernet cable for 1-1/2 months to keep my phone and iPads updated and backed up. Apple gave me some ideas of what might be causing the problem.

I had horrible experiences with Xfinity tech support, too. Two who I got twice, telling me they'd never heard of the problem after I'd talked to them before and told them! One guy sent a Tech to my house so they could get "eyes on it", and the Tech said "we don't do that", wouldn't look and walked out!

Anyway, if you use the text option for support, you can copy the Reddit post, so whatever Tech is on your call can reference the Service Alert. That is how it is classified by Xfinity. I just did that last week on a call and was thanked for the info. I haven't looked at the updates this week (mine devices are still OK), but they should tell where they are in the roll-out. Good luck!

I am also having the same exact problem. When I first noticed it a couple of weeks ago I was able to find a workaround online and was able to download 16.5.1 to iPhone and perform a back up so my iPhone is not experiencing this problem and does perform nightly backups when charging. Both problems still exist in my iPad Pro 3rd gen, however. I called Apple support and after an iPad session with support they scheduled an appointment for me to take the iPad Pro to the Apple Store. I did that last Sunday and they ran analytics and at the Apple Store’s wifi I was able to install the most recent security update and perform a back up. As soon as I got home and tried to perform a backup I received the same “poor network conditions” message. Nothing had changed in my home environment when this started happening with Xfinity but I decided to start a support call with them. After talking with tech support and renaming the wifi and changing the password which proved unsuccessful they scheduled a technician for today. The technician viewed the problem on my iPad Pro, checked the wiring and replaced the modem the same problem still exists. He said the only thing I can do is wait and see if Apple fixes the issue in an update. I have exhausted every available option I have found online. The only hope now is that Apple addresses this issue in the next iPad OS. I will keep looking here and hoping for a resolution and in the meantime I will have to go to other locations to perform backups and upgrades which is of course ridiculous.

All

i have had the same problem for a month. I believe it is an issue between Xfinity and apple.

I have a solution that I just was able to download and update iPad it has no cellular.

I bought a Ethernet to usbc and a Ethernet to lightning.

turned off WiFi connected to dongle and was able to connect to router port and was able to backup and update iPad.

I know it’s not perfect but it works for when u need to update or backup

Yes, although it may not continue. I backed up my iPad Mini5 and updated my apps using Ethernet. Quick and easy. Doesn’t mess with router settings.

Then…My iPad 9th Gen was doing fine but stopped in the middle of the Security Update 16.5.1, and then gave me the wifi message. My printer suddenly couldn’t find the network. My MacBook stopped syncing photos.

I both unplugged my Gateway and disconnected the coax for a while (wires have capacitance), then reset the Gateway and restarted everything. Eventually everything worked again! I hope it continues but doubt it will. I know how to manage the fixes, but shouldn’t have to.

I got so tired of fighting with Apple and XFinity that I took advice from this forum and split the Modem to 5 and 2.4. Everything worked fine with the WiFi on 2.4 but very slow. I also went ahead and purchased the Ethernet Lightning and C cables, also suggested here, which work faster. At least I have 2 ways to backup now. XFinity upgraded their system wiring in the neighborhood and all the problems then started. They refuse to take responsibility as they should be collaborating with Apple for a quick solution.

Xfinity is also asking this. Currently, our engineers are taking a further look at this issue and are trying to explore all possible causes. It is believed there mav be a specific port Apple devices are requesting access to when attempting to send an iCloud back up. If that is the case, our engineers are asking us to have customers reach out to Apple Care to see if Apple Care is able to identify specifically why Apple devices are reporting connection issues when attempting to send backups to the iCloud.
