Philips HUE lamps are not responding in Home app

Hi all, maybe someone had a similar issue?

Philips HUE works as a standalone app, but lights do not respond in Apple Home app.

What I tried:

  1. Sign out/Sign in Philips HUE app;
  2. Reconnect HUE Bridge device a couple of times;
  3. Reconnect Voice assistant (Siri) in Philips app;
  4. Delete the entire home and create a new one in the Home app.

Siris says that table light is not responding.

I can't turn the light on/off through the Home app.

There seems to be no connection with Apple anymore.

This started about 3 months ago.

Any ideas?

I've been having the same issue ever since iOS 17.2 was put out for iPhones and tvOS and homepodOS. I'd consider switching to nanoleaf, but they also use Matter as part of the integration. Wouldn't they have the same issue if it's a Matter integration problem? If not, then I'll probably switch too. Hate this because my Philips Hue worked PERFECT for the last two years until now. Such a disappointment.

I spent several hours on this and tried all of the following:

  • Restarted my network
  • Restarted Hue Bridge
  • Changed around several network settings
  • Removed all Apple devices that could act as a Home Hub (several Apple TVs, HomePod Minis, and HomePods) and re-setup just one AppleTV to act as the Home Hub (you have to have at least one set up)
  • Unlinked and relinked the Hue Bridge from HomeKit in the Hue app
  • Removed and readded the Hue Bridge from HomeKit directly (under Home Settings)
  • Made sure the Hue Bridge and all other devices were on the latest version
  • Performed a full factory reset on the Hue Bridge (yes, this means you have to set all Hue devices back up from scratch)

None of these worked. Finally, after reading several posts about issues with Matter accessories, I added the Hue Bridge directly from HomeKit but this time I made sure NOT to add it as a Matter Access. This finally solved it!!!!

Here are the steps I took:

  • Go to HomeKit - Home Settings - Home Hubs & Bridget - Remove the Hue Bridge
  • Go to Hue App - Settings - Smart home - Unlink HomeKit
  • Go back to HomeKit, click Add Accessory, then select More options ...
  • Make sure to select the one listed Philips Hue HomeKit that is not the one listed under OTHER MATTER ACCESSORIES as Philips Hue Bridge. If the Philips Hue HomeKit doesn't show up, you may need to press the button on top of the Hue Bridge.

  • This will ask for the device code which should be on the back of the Hue Bridge:

  • Enter that and then click through the rest of the steps and you should be good to go!

Hopefully this helps others with the same issue.

I started having the same problem on the same date!

Everything worked fine and on Dec 21st they just stopped responding. Now I am not able to reconnect. I get an "Apple Homesync error".

I have tried:

  • Using the pairing code
  • Tried resetting the Hue Hub.
  • Resintalled all the lights
  • Deleting and recreating a Home

Nothing has worked.

I had the same issue since around mid fall 2023 - driving me nuts - Hue lights just beign super inconsistent with Siri.

Here's what worked:

  • remove Hue bridge from Homekit, and all the lights
  • add Hue as matter (from Hue app) - the first time this DID NOT WORK - so i removed it again (from General -> Settings), THEN re-added it. I wasn't able to re-add it from Home app, but adding it the second time from Hue app worked.
  • Then had to confirm each of the lights (36 of them!)

but for now it's working well.

what a mess of an upgrade process especially for best users with most devices.

No go. Did remove Hub from Matter setting in iOS settings > General.

Now, trying to Add Accessory via Home:

  • Scan the pairing code on bottom of hub - recognized number
  • Hue no longer listed on next screen to even pick from.
  • Rebooting Hub, Modem or anything else I can think of doesn't work

Also in contact with Hue Support

They also blame the Xfinity XB7 modem/router....

Changes you make in the Home App won’t sync with the Hue App. Make changes in the Hue App and it will sync with the Home App.

Update the .hue App in the App Store and it will tell you to perform a mandatory update on the Bridge once you relaunch the Hue App. The bridge update only takes a few minutes. You can also reach out to Hue via their Twitter or Facebook page. I’m sorry I don’t have the links to these.

It could be the wifi and rebooting it might help. Although the Hue App usually has an alert in red if it’s not connected to wifi. There have been some issues recently with Hue losing its connection to HomeKit. Mine has been ok. I rarely use the home app to control it . I use the Hue App. I do use Siri to turn lights on or off though,

Make sure you’re using the same Apple ID for Apple HomeKit and any devices you use to engage with Siri. All being on the same wifi network is also preferred.
